Whoa! Child hood memories of watching Webster at night mashed together with grown up fantasies. ??? I'm not quite sure how to feel about that image, but thanks for sharing.

You guys crack me up! had me reading the whole thread and now wanting to get into iRacing!
and I dont know who that woman is but holy hot! PS: check out what I found. http://www.racedepartment.com/sim-ra...rt-thread.html |
The new build was released today. Anybody up for some Miata practice at Mid-Ohio tonight? Servers will be packed, so I'm not sure we'll catch a race together. But, the practice session car counts will be nice and high.
|
Car count maybe a bit too high right now.
servers are down right now. |
I think I'm going to buy the F-1 car, That sounds like it maybe way out of hand. Some of these new cars sound like tons of fun.
Rodger |
Did you look at all the settings available for that thing!? I think about half you can adjust on the fly without pitting.
In addition to the normal spring rates, anti-roll bars, and ride height adjustments: three downforce trim levels before making finer angle adjustments, corner springs, heave rate springs, ballast, brake bias, brake pressure, corner dampers and heave dampers, inerters (???), differential preload, engine braking, engine power (to adjust fuel consumption), throttle response curve. I quit reading at that point. Good luck with that. |
Hay Lino do you have a Setup for the F1? I'm more of a driver then a Crew Chief
|
Sorry Rodger, The crew Chief can't help you with talent.
You have to have that already. |

Good luck with that |
Ran the mazda a little bit, its a fun car.
Also ran the williams for a few laps at silverstone. Its crazy fast and it sticks real good. pushed it in 7th gear a few times. but i couldn't look downat how fast i was going. |
I've always wondered if there were a virtual racing environment that folks frequent to improve their skills... kinda like the flight sims our Air Force pilots use. Wonder if this is what the professional racers are doing in their off time! LOL What's the start up cost to get going with the steering wheel/pedals/etc?

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...ing/index.html In the last year I have ran races or practice sessions with quite a few real-life professional, national champion, and amateur drivers from Nascar Sprint Cup, SCCA Spec Miata and Skip Barber, and karting. I find it really cool to be able to test your skills against nationally recognized drivers. Generally I've found that if a driver is fast in real life they are also fast in the sim. I believe this is due to iRacing doing an excellent job of duplicating the physics of the vehicle and the accuracy of the track models. One of the drivers that ran the iRacing Mustang series this last season, was top qualifier in a couple of the real-life GrandAm races last year. Typically, he's quite a bit faster than the rest of the field, with only a small group of iRacers globally that run similar times. Racing with and being able to analyze replays of professional drivers definately helps to figure out what you're not doing quite quite right and where to pick up a few tenths. You can get a Logitech Driving Force GT at just about any electronics or department store for about $100. It's a good entry level force feedback wheel, but the two-pedal set isn't all that spectacular. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/gaming...s/devices/4172 From there you can step up to a Logitech G27 for about $300. Larger wheel, better pedals with a clutch and H-pattern shifter. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/gaming...s/devices/5184 iRacing is running a special right now; three months for I think $12. |
Do you guys prefer the automatic/paddles or the manual shifter?
Went to the websites... I'd love to get the seat/pedals/wheel combo! Thanks for the info! |
Hey guys this sounds like a blast. I would love to get into this with everyone. Since I'm getting ready to build myself a new computer, what do I need to know to get for it to get the best experience? Saw some kid playing a 3 monitor thing at the electronics store the other day, looks like a real blast.
Can't open most of the links or videos from here at work, but will check some of them out tonight. |
I run H-pattern manual with a clutch pedal normally. But, you can choose to have it auto-clutch. Most wheels will have a shift knob and paddles, so you can pick either.

http://www.iracing.com//membership/system-requirements/ Triple monitors are highly recommended to increase your peripheral vision. It's a lot easier to race clean in traffic without guessing where the car is next to you. I'm running a Core2Duo E8400 3.0Ghz, 5GB ram, ATI 5770, with three 22" monitors. My system is kinda borderline for running triple monitors. Frame rates range from 45-75 at 5040x1050. Single monitor resolutions with this hardware combo easily outputs over 100fps. |
Have you guys, tested out the William Toyota?
I ran it at laguna its nuts, in the solstice the quickest was a 1:51.8 in the Williams I went 1:12. The course seemed small going that quick. Also had to buy road atlanta and mid ohio to run the maxda mx-5 I didn't have those tracks. Have you guys run of course with it yet? In the solstice if you hit grass or sand, its like ice and your into the wall. In the Mazda you can actually save it in most situations. |
I just picked up the Williams last night. That's funny, I had the exact same feeling that the track was small. I thought it was just the viewing angle giving that perception, because the seat is so low. But, I'm sure speed has a lot to do with that feeling as well. That thing is a handful to say the least. Really gotta be on your toes... constantly.

Lino,
I took the williams and raced it at Limerock. its a go-kart track for the williams. under 40 seconds a lap. Promotions are today. I should be getting my new license today. I hope. |

you could get one of these set ups Greg.
I'll come up and help set it up for you, and test it out. http://www.simxperience.com/ http://www.simcraft.com/ http://www.motionbasedsimulators.com/ |
And here's more links for you guys.
http://www.thewayiplay.com/mainforum...4f5&board=24.0 Good stuff there to building your own racing sim cockpit! |
I would paint it flat black and add some custom touches here and there.

You can actually buy a number of manufactured racing cockpits.
Obutto has to one of the most popular right now. Starts a little north of $300 and has options for triple-monitor mounts. http://www.obutto.com/ I'd love to go the cockpit direction, but I'll be sim racing from the computer desk in my living room until I can evict a couple of my kids. :D |
A little iRacing news...
Grand-Am Road Racing has just added a schedule and results page on their website for the "GRAND-AM iRacing.com Online Sports Car Series".

Lino,
I need some help with the mustang. Its a bit tricky to drive. I hear your the expert |
Sorry, for being slow on the reply.
I wouldn't say expert, but I'm fairly competitive. Mustang Tips:
Check out this video. Watch the meters to see rolling off the brake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85BX6fNNbmo It's real easy to over drive this car, meaning going too deep into the corner. You lose lots of time by braking too late, missing the apex, and then getting back on the throttle late. If you can't turn in enough to get to the apex, back up your braking point. Slow in fast out is very important. Trail braking and throttle are the only way to get this thing to turn. For set up I've been running pretty soft for more grip; soft front bar and no rear bar on most tracks and ride height pretty high to take some curb without upsetting the car. Are you running the Mustang series this season? |
im running the Mustang now with the new License.
I already did 2 races at Watkins Glen with it. I have been trying to trail brake but its feels weird in this car. |
I'm running the Mustang in Grand Am this season and both series are at Miami Homestead this week. You're gonna hate the track this week. It's got one of those crappy, unstable, Turn 1 braking zones just like Daytona.
Maybe we can save Rodger $3 and just jump into uncrowded practice sessions. |
Can he race in the grand am practice session? I think the license is different for the mustang class and the grand am. I'm down for a practice session. I have been out of the drivers seat since last Monday night. I have a few nights this week to race and then I'm on the road for 10 days back east.

I can't race in the Grand Am. I need a B or C license.
I saw homestead was a track this week. I tested it out last night for about 20 minutes. my time was a 1:32.xx I don't like the track and not a big fan of the car either. Lets do a practice session. |

Mustang Cup practice is fine. I'll run Grand Am traffic sessions later this week. I scratched my setup from last season and started over with the baseline. Got it down to a 1:28.6 so far. And yeah, this track sucks. The lack of reference points makes it really tough to be consistent.
|
The mustang cup.... Well I can't run my Riley Prototype. I'm having fun with tha car. How long are the Homestead sessions this week. I would like to get a race or 2 in before friday. I had worked my way up to 9th in the standings. Last time I raced.
|
You could host a multiclass practice race. Probably get some takers since there aren't Grand Am races until tomorrow and Thursday.
|
So what's up for tonight?
Where do you guys what to take a beating. |
