The sun tunnels work great! I have been on a few jobs with them and during daylight hours there is no need to turn on the lights in most cases!

waynieZ 11-16-2010 03:08 PM

Thanks.
Thanks guys its flying now It might be done next week if all goes well..

Today they installed the A/C sleve in the back wall. He also trimmed out the front soffit area. Then he started the vinyl on the side and back.

Here are some pictures of the vinyl going on.

Trimmed out with the AZEK and vinyl corners.

Here is the A/C sleve. I know it looks low but the heat will be above it. and inside the floor is lower than the outside grade. Sorry for the shaky pictures.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...rogress011.jpg

They also started the front porch. There's a 4" deep 12x12 footing for the PT 6x6 . The weight from the roof is on the wall not on the 6x6 so all it will hold is the porch itself. They are putting a 8" sonotube for the bottom of the stairs. Here are some pictures.

Very nice Wayne. Those guys are really moving on that garage, huh? Built just in time for the snow.

Northeast Rod Run 11-16-2010 04:39 PM

I still think you need to leave the big window looking into the garage;)

waynieZ 11-16-2010 06:00 PM

Thanks Tony
TJ don't give My wife any ideas.lol

awr68 11-16-2010 06:20 PM

Looking great Wayne! Are you going to drywall it this go-around or will that be later on? Will you be doing the electrical and air line plumbing?

I'm having an electrician install the the load center and power from the garage to the house. Then I'll do the rest of the wiring as I go. The contractor doesn't want to leave the garage without the ceiling being done so he is strapping the trusses. I didn't know he was planning to do that. It just shows how he does it right. The rock will have to be later on as budget permits.

awr68 11-16-2010 07:20 PM

Sounds good, go at your pace! No need to get in a hurry, think things through and do it right the first time! Any word on that car of yours?

waynieZ 11-17-2010 05:20 PM

Got a little progress today. They strapped the trusses to keep them straight untill I put the sheetrock in later on. They also did some of the vinyl on the front of the garage. They stopped short of the top because I have a gable end vent for the two peaks ordered . They are suposed to be here Monday morning.

Here are a few pictures of what they did today.

GregWeld 11-17-2010 05:25 PM

Wayne! Sweet! Bet you're a little less freaked out now by all the "bad" contractors.... you had to deal with before this finally got started.

waynieZ 11-17-2010 06:00 PM

Greg Your 100% correct. It was a blessing in disgise. We were discussing two types of water table board and his worker went to check out acouple of different kinds. When he got back he was telling me the prices of the two and Greg told him not to mention the prices he wanted me to get thew one I wanted without worring about the price. He would have saved money on one of them but got the one I wanted reguardless of price. He's really great to deal with.

awr68 11-17-2010 06:50 PM

Looking great! What are the plans for the driveway to garage floor approach? Raise/slope the new driveway?

waynieZ 11-17-2010 07:14 PM

I might cut it back towards the street and make the slope longer to lessen the pitch. I'm not sure if I'll use asphalt of concrete but that won't be until spring after it settles. For now I might put some stone in to keep the dust down so the wife can get in there.

tones2SS 11-18-2010 08:19 AM

Looks great Wayne. Should be a great home for the pro-tour beast!

awr68 11-18-2010 09:15 AM

Personally I would do whatever I could to keep the driveway flat. There's nothing like a flat driveway! With adequate runoff of course. However, at the street you don't want the approach so steep you can't get a lowered Camaro in there without dragging the headers! If it works out to raise the drive, the approach is doable, and the front yard just needs more fill to bring it up....well you know what I would do! :D

Flash68 11-18-2010 10:02 AM

Wayne- the garage is coming along nicely and looking sweet. Very envious of you!

waynieZ 11-19-2010 03:37 PM

I have some progress pictures from yesterday and today. Yesterday they worked on the left side of the garage and did some work on the porch.
Here are some pictures.

awr68 11-19-2010 07:08 PM

Wayne, it looks great! you really did a great job blending it to the origional home!

Northeast Rod Run 11-19-2010 08:39 PM

And the jealousy grows:bow:

XcYZ 11-21-2010 04:58 PM

15 pages... Epic!

Maybe you've covered this already, Wayne, but what are your plans for finishing the inside?

waynieZ 11-21-2010 05:48 PM

Thanks !
Scott For now I'm just going to sheetrock the wall adjacent to the house ( to code ) and put the electric to minimal code so I can store my car when I gat it back. Then I'll do the wiring and insulation as money becomes available. Then I'll do the rest of the lighting and rock the ceiling and then the walls. I have allmost 30" of stem wall so I'm not too worried about the sheetrock getting wet so I'll run it down to the top of the concrete. I have a bench I built for my cellar its 16' long so I'll figure how much I need for the garage and cut to fit. I have a few pieces of slat wall and a 6'hx42"w metal cabinet and one old hospital maple wall cabinet to go in when the walls are done. I'm going to steal your overhead storage idea . Above my work bench that is going along the back wall I was thinking of building storage like yours. It will be mostly lost space with out it. When its in I'll mount some task lighting in it over the bench.
I called to garage door installers,I'm still waitnig for call backs.

XcYZ 11-22-2010 04:58 AM

Cool, sounds like you have it planned out. Are you going to have heat?

I agree with the overhead storage, that's just wasted space, might as well take advantage of it.

waynieZ 11-22-2010 06:36 AM

Scott. the first thing I bought for the garage was a 45,000 btu Mr Heater when Bing .com was giving discounts. I got 25% off from Bing and 2% from E bay and 2% for using my discover card. I know it wasa early but I had to take the chance. Its waiting patiently in the cellar.

Jay Hilliard 11-22-2010 06:51 AM

Looking great Wayne. Its moving very quickly. Good things come to those who wait huh? :unibrow: Its good to see people stand by their word and do what they say they will do. Its getting harder and harder to find people/contractors like that now. Congrats buddy!

Hopefully you'll be storing something in it soon...

waynieZ 11-22-2010 07:53 AM

Thanks Jay I would have no probleem recomending this guy. He's great to work with.

waynieZ 11-23-2010 07:30 PM

They finnished all the vinyl on front of the house. They just need to finnish the trim on the bottom of the window, the stairs and rails and the front is done. They had some vinyl to do on the back wall that got done too. They have a small section to tie into the house with red cedar shingles and the outside is done. I called a guy to install the garage door. Waiting to hear back from him with a price onthe install and the high lift track set up.
The only thing left is the removal of the bay window and install the door into the house. As Greg would say EEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA!

Here are a couple of pictures.

Just to compare.

Getting Close!

awr68 11-23-2010 07:42 PM

Looks great Wayne! Hey they aren't wearing shorts today? Is it cold over there too? School was canceled here today due to ice and snow!

Make sure they fir out the garage door rails with 1/2" material or your drywall guy won't be happy and your door will hit at the header once sheet rocked!

Northeast Rod Run 11-23-2010 07:47 PM

Looks like an entirely new home. I guess it's just like a car. You want to just one thing, but the project always takes on more momentum as the build goes on

They should have been in shorts today. I know I was because we had 60+ temps around Boston today. Felt like an East Coast summer:yes:

GregWeld 11-23-2010 08:11 PM

Dude! LOL

That's totally awesome..... <spicolli>

waynieZ 11-24-2010 04:38 AM

Thanks guys. Thanks Tony for the heads up. No shorts today it was warrm for a while but the wind picked up and this picture was about 3:00 it was getting nippy.

waynieZ 11-25-2010 09:21 AM

They finnished the stairs and hand rails on the porch They still have some trim under the bay window to finnish and the white boards under the threshold, then that side is done. Monday they will remove the window in the garage and put in the door to replace it.
I have a couple of overhead door guys coming to give me a price to install the door. Maybe with a high lift track kit, depending on the price.
Next week the electrician is giving me a price to put in the load center in the garage and feed the house from there. He'll put in any code required wiring in the garage and the rest will be for me to finnish.

Here are some pictures
