Here's the proposed new dash.... What do you guys think? It's typical '32 Ford but I like it. Hard to reinvent a '32 dash...

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...ELDDASH002.jpg

And I ordered an Inglese 8 stack -- like this -- except the INTAKE will be powder coated (for a "base") and then painted the Ferrari red.... everything else will be full polished. The block is red - I'm putting on aluminum heads - and then the intake painted - for something a little different. Kenny D talked me into having it powder coated first to seal it. Smart! Thanks Kenny!

I hate their v stacks - so will top it with some from Cook Enterprises ala my Nomad.

Nice build.Wouldn't mind having a 32 coupe myself.

GregWeld 11-09-2010 08:09 PM

Thanks Scott!

I never thought I'd like one - until I drove one! It's an adult go kart...

EEEEEHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA!

I didn't go out to buy one - just found this one at an auction and bought it - then drove it.... straight to a SAR's shop to have it completely done over. :faint: :D

Intake is going to look bad a!# There's nothing like having other builders telling you how to spent the coin LOL Smart suggestion on Kennys part now you have to ship him the car:lol:

Interior? I like the typical look on the deuces but I would suggest contouring the bench seat in alittle around the shifter.

Interior is already done... I'm changing the dash (the one in the car was a bad imitation of what should have been engine turned - but it was plastic wannbe stuff - LOL). The leather in the car is brand new and very very nice. I'm going to change the carpet to a squareweave -- because we're moving the shifter forward from the seat, so will have a hole in the old stuff. Going from the 6 speed to a 5 speed TKO 600 so we can move the position and get it away from the seat.

I like your thinking Greg. This is going to be one nice "adult go cart"

A group of us got some good laughs while discussing what I "bought" while having dinner at SEMA -- the consensus was I bought two frame rails - the front upper and lower A arms... and a body.

How did I miss this! Shame on me.
Sweet looking 32 Greg. Your making some great changes. I love those quick chane diff setups in these car. It just seems to belong. Keep the updates coming.

GregWeld 11-10-2010 06:15 AM

Would you take $35K? It's absolutely PERFECT!

I thought the 37 was a long hauler type project. Something you and your wife could enjoy to take a road trip in to wine country. She isn't going to want to do it in a 32 ford.

We've been talking about buying a place in vinoland.... so this would be the perfect rod for that area... ya think? I'd drop her off at one of those tasting places and have them call me when she can't feel her lips.... :willy: :woot:

I'd just love to be closer to Charley! :D

Next time you're down in this winecountry you're more then welcome to stop by our shop. We're the second business outside of the Napa city limits.

GregWeld 11-15-2010 12:17 PM

Just ordered a Smeding Performance 383 SBC with EFI. They have a special on them for $4995 COMPLETE with the EFI etc. I'll rip that all off and stick the Inglese 8 stack and use a FAST EZ EFI on it but couldn't pass up a "deal" like that on a nicely built motor.

Seems the one that came in the car has some "odd" cylinder pressure readings and some real loose leak-down numbers. Rather than rebuild it - I just bought this new motor and we'll go with that.

The Smeding motor comes with aluminum heads and a warranty. It's a no brainer!

Very nice Greg. Should be a great fit. Will look great with your intake on top. Not too shabby with that 430 TQ.

Nice motor, but ONLY 370 hp? Come on, you can handle more than that! :willy:

Have you ever driven a 370 HP 5 speed 3:70 geared Go Kart??

GregWeld 11-17-2010 07:31 AM

Got the drawing - first sketch - of the headers. I decided I wanted custom built rather than the standard "Sanderson" Lakester header. And built from food grade polished stainless steel. What do you guys think?

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/GWELD001.jpg

tones2SS 11-17-2010 07:33 AM

I like it Greg. I like the "away" and "down" bends.
How long of a wait to have the headers custom made?

Do the arrows help you remember which way the exhaust flows ?

I think you got more time in the drawing than what it will take to make.

Looks good !!

They'll do them right there at the shop. We'll, of course, wait til the motor is back in the chassis etc.

GregWeld 11-17-2010 02:48 PM

Funny Mark! But I think you're right. I was at SAR today - will post pics in a minute.... Told them "I do not want headers that look like they belong on a bucket T"! They understood what I was saying. Now -- They'll have to find the tapered tube! That might take some doing.

awr68 11-17-2010 02:50 PM

Looks good to me! Keep crackin' that whip! Summers just around the bend.....kinda!

GregWeld 11-17-2010 03:02 PM

I've went to SAR today to work out a few more details -- there's always lots of details even on a simple little POS like this!

They're going to cut down the column drop and 1/4 over the edges to make it a bit "neater" - it's too large as is. Easier to whack this one than set up a new one - thus the green tape and cut lines.

The new dash installed for me to "okay":

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/IMG_1134.jpg

I asked them to hide the headlight switch and the heater controls under the dash - to keep this nice a simple. Also going to use a beige faced gauge with red pointer ala the Classic Vintage set like shown here:

http://www.classicinstruments.com/se...?SeriesCode=VT

The firewall is repaired and painted as is the the rear valance where the old exhaust had cutouts sculpted in the body.

ditto!
especially when Im in Steve's neighborhood.

its okay though I undertand he doesn't have time for us common folk.

96z28ss 11-17-2010 03:41 PM

Don't you think you should change the windshield and frame.
Your going for more of a Vintage Dry lake look and the winshield frame screams modern billet, I think it will look out of place to much.

GregWeld 11-17-2010 03:57 PM

Nah -- I'm going for the bastard child look.

I didn't buy it because I got a "deal".... and I'm having fun making it just exactly the way I want it. I'm just real lucky that I don't have to make it "financially work out".
