Thanks! I agree on the comments about the direction for these types of build. I think many owners out there are finding a nice balance for these cars. The vehicles we see getting this treatment are usually ones where the styling has really stood the test of time and are now becoming appreciated for what they are. The owners would rather let the factory styling speak for itself and bring the internals up to modern performance and handling levels to compliment the outside.

I'm a little late to the thread, but I couldnt agree more, I'm really liking this type of trend and I know we'll be seeing alot more of it. Great work guys!

I love the first picture. The motor looks killer in there.

Roadster Shop 12-19-2012 05:28 PM

Thanks guys. We are excited to start seeing this one come together. We should be getting the custom gauges, machined parts, custom wheels, and a few other unique items right after the first of the year. The car will really take shape then. We will add more pics as things progress.

Time for some updates!
Realized I omitted a couple of pics before the body went on from the last update. Hope nobody minds...just some gratuitous IRS/chassis porn.:unibrow:

If ever a car needs a 'hood delete' option, it's this one. However, the 'sleeper' theme is rounded off with the hood going on.

The gauges also arrived last week from Classic Instruments who did an awesome job making them look as factory as possible. The speedo is now 160mph (110mph before), they created an 8K rpm tach and clustered the Fuel, Temp, Oil and volts into the left side pod. The numbers also 'float' on the lens like the original factory piece. The surround will be re-finished and chromed/painted to match the other dash pieces and the AC/vent piece posted previously.

WOW, just awesome. I love all the color/finish choices.

Is it bedliner you use on the floors? Looks great and still provides some contrast against the frame.

Man that looks Awesome I can't wait to see it on Friday.

ps I am going to steel this idea for the Riv I am working on

Flawless!! Love the old school, off-white color.

Just bitchin. Executed perfectly in every detail. Just a warhead wrapped in a plain white bag.

OLDFLM 01-09-2013 12:06 PM

Please tell me this car is getting a red interior?!

preston 01-09-2013 12:27 PM

These days no muscle car can really be a sleeper anymore but if anything qualifies it will be this. I can just imagine when that "nice little old white Falcon" fires up the engine and it sounds halfway to a top fueler.

Thanks, and yes - the floors and inner fenders get a full spray of the bedliner.

It should raise an eyebrow or two!

We thought about it, but the owner wanted to be as true to the 'wolf in sheep's clothing' as it could be, so it will most likely be from the grey side of the color wheel.

Stielow 01-09-2013 05:19 PM

Wow that thing is cool.

If anyone gets to the Chicago area you need to go by the Roadster Shop.

All top shelf and great guys.

Them RS boys did the impossible...caused a bunch of Camaro fueled gearheads (mainly) here to give a '63 Fairlane a 2nd (and 3rd and 4th...) look.

Thanks for the kind words! It means a lot. We really have a good team here that make all the ideas come to life. Hopefully it pushes the industry along and inspires others.

RS-Chris 01-23-2013 12:07 PM

Time for a quick update too!

Wheel progress: Some of you might remember the concept - a 'factory' looking steel wheel and cap in an 18" diameter.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8218/8...c658cf8e_b.jpg

And the concept for how the whole thing would bolt and mate together to appear as if it just came that way:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8464/8...498e3828_b.jpg

Some fine engineering, tweeking and refining later, we have the beginnings of a proportionally correct 18" billet 'steelie'. (Even the wheels on this car are sleepers!)

Looks gorgeous.. keep up the awesome design work!

Very Nice!

coolwelder62 01-23-2013 05:36 PM

I think "if you have to ask, you don't want to know" may apply in this case. :D

FETorino 01-23-2013 08:32 PM

It just keeps getting better:D

So who is making the wheels?

SEVENDY2MALIBU 01-23-2013 08:58 PM

Those wheels are crazy !! Can't wait to see more of this build.

Haha too true.. not that I have delusional thoughts of milling my own wheels!

I've never seen roundbar in that big of a diameter.. I always thought wheels where milled from gigantic square-profile billets. Anyways the 5-8" round bar we machine at work is f***ing expensive so I can't even fathom the cost of 18"+ diameter bar per foot!

tmadden 01-24-2013 06:43 PM

Excellent work. A testament to your abilities. I would never give this car a second look before you guys put your hands on it. :D

Joe, I didn't know that it is 18" roundbar. Don't get me wrong, I'm no expert either. I just though it was raw billet poured into a round mould. For real...
