Where abouts do you ride?

Well I ride and I also CrAsH (see earlier posts - haha)

I'm thinking about welding a real redneck bike rack to the back of my Mustang, when we go on long cruises ;)

Local Trails are pretty Awesome for being so close to Chicago
Palos, Saw Wee Kee, V-Tree, Ricks Trail & the Bomb.

If I head up to Wisconsin and hit Kettle and Blue Mounds.

A Hidden Gem that most people don't know about is "Brown County" in Nashville Indiana very well built network.

IN 2011 we rode in Colorado at the last US Crankworks contest. I took 4th place in the intergalletic pond crossing.

The cover shot is me falling into the 30 degree water

Can't get much more Redneck then what I did to my 70

 That's awesome, congratulations on the "cool" landing. Not a bad idea on the bike rack either ;)

My 2nd attempt was much better. Out of the 85 people only 8 of us made it.

Well you're a braver and more skilled rider than me!

A couple long nights work. As with anything on an old car, what is supposed to be easy, is often harder than anticipated.

But it's all installed and the coilover springs definitely have a much better feel than the old springs, perch and shocks.

Some reassembly

Well it's time to "wake up" the car. Maybe the crankshaft balancer will hear it (3000 miles away) and get the thing balanced and send it to Brent so the engine can be put together! haha

Anyway the Ipod adaptor was not working.
The big problem with that, is the stereo system is completely hidden, so it's kind of cool and looks vintage/stock, but that means I have to take a lot of the interior trim apart to service any components that are not working.
Looks like just a loose wire. So the stereo and ipod adaptor are working good now.

Unfortunately I had to nearly completely take out the rear trim and fold down seat to get at it.

Checked my new turn signal tone. That works also, but may need some tweaking.

Battery is in good condition, but the charger is on it now, as I want to trickle it up to full capacity now.

I have to fix the power door lock on the drivers side (tricky) next.

New chrome trim around the lights, looks good.

It's time for a motivational FE Mustang clip.

That's a great video! I watched the whole thing the other day. I think I'd have to upgrade my seats and harness to have a chance with that one! ;)
(plus a better driver ;) )

NEWS;
Crank is back from the balancer
Long block assembly is taking place, over the next little bit.

And...

I got a new butt rest for the garage;

Hoping to have the new 8 Litre FE engine in by the end of this month.
Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Redid some of the suspension/ shock tower reinforcement tonight, with new stainless fasteners.

Got an email from Brent.
Engine assembly starts tomorrow.

:excited:

Pretty soon, I'll be able to stop pushing the hotwheels cars around the living room, making vroom vroom noises.

For some reason, it annoys my wife :headscratch: (not sure why)

Yes sir we all have to have something to do when the swell drops :)

Looks like you're getting there. Those ports look funny. They are so small and the wrong shape :underchair:

Thanks. What bike are you thinking of? Of the ones I rode, I really liked the Specialized and Rocky Mountain full suspension bikes. Of the hardtails, I liked the Kona with the 29" wheels. It's really fast and the large wheels help on loose trails.

Some of us are not full of hot air, so don't need the big nascar ports ;)

On the news front, our mustang club has cancelled track day, this year, so I signed up for membership in a sports car club, that is mostly porches, bmws etc. I'll let you know how that goes.

I'm really impressed with the new suspension. Along with the 75# less front end weight, it should make a big difference in handling.

Nope not yet. Brent ordered the pushrods. Hoping they don't take too long.

Fixed the power door lock solenoid on the drivers side tonight. All working good now.

Gotta make certain I keep the riff raff out :stirthepot:

Also I am planning a pair of custom emblems, I haven't decided on text yet.

I was thinking of;

"faster than a big heavy torino, with a tunnel port FE" :stirthepot:

It's kinda wordy for an emblem. :badidea:

Cool, I'll take you for a beer or two after I win ;)

On the engine front, the dyno is booked for around the end of the month BUT several of the rockers were NFG (manufactured wrong) excessive wear on the roller tips SO hopefully they can be replaced in time :(

I guess I'm sort of wondering why my previous engine guy never checked any of this, but, maybe it explains the cumulative problems, that I've had before this.

Ripped 06-17-2013 02:49 PM

Made the decision this morning, with Brent' advise, rather than buy 7 replacement rockers, to go with a much heavier duty T&D rocker system.

Real T&D or the street version?

Ripped 06-17-2013 10:07 PM

I haven't seen them yet, but am assuming the street version.

Don't tell Rob but my Trainer has me on a 2 week cut.
43+10 = 53lbs LOL ;)

All things being on track I expect to see something more from Brent in the way of numbers, next weekend.

Ripped 06-27-2013 11:03 AM

To coincide with the soon to be coming engine, I have 2-3 custom emblems coming, from Jim and his wife at custom billet works. And as I understand it, his wife came up with the design idea.

They do custom badges, so no-one else will have the same design

The artwork looks really good.

I'll post up the pictures, when the badges arrive.

Pretty nice stuff, they do

Hmmm numbers, well I didn't specify a number when we started the build.

I specified what I was using the car for;
Road racing = 5-10%
Drag racing = 1-2%
Long highway driving / twisty roads going through the gears = 30-40% +
Local street driving = balance

Plus I have Power steering & A/C :relax:

And that I wanted reliability, and to say goodbye to my oiling and bearing woes. I also wanted manners. Choppy = okay, surging popping and rowdy, not so much

Broad nice even torque curve, and to be able to run all day at the track

Based on the engine and components, I have a guess at what those numbers might be, but I don't know the camshaft. Trusting Brent on having a good idea on this.

So based on all that I'd hazard a guess that it'll be 10+ hp and 15+torq over one of those funky tunnel ports LOL :animated_bye_bye_em

I'd probably have to pull a couple spark plug wires to make it completely fair, for you ;)
