Ah.... Jim you must have seen the one where I barely had gotten out of the car and this guy is shoving a mic in my face and asking questions....

Didn't know it was on TV -- the guy never did identify himself - or if he did - I didn't pay any attention.

So after spending 16 months working weekends on my Brother in Laws Camaro.... Doing everything we possibly can to protect the paint... he get's it home for a whopping 2 weeks and gets into a minor fender bender.

So.... that old "while we're at it we might as well do....." Kicks in and the car gets a FULL paint job. The insurance company was pretty good to work with he said... it even got a NOS front fender - passenger door got reskined... and then 300 hours later it's painted.

On the 15th it goes in to the upholstery shop -- and then I'm finally DONE with it. :D

Phaeton 12-13-2012 06:14 PM

Who's doing the upholstery?

GregWeld 12-13-2012 06:21 PM

Dan's Auto Upholstery in Portland Oregon. He's been doing all the "local" high end builds. Since it's not my car - I don't get to make those decisions. I visited the shop the other day -- his work look more than respectable.

Dont go giving him a bigger head than he already has.

GregWeld 02-07-2013 10:26 AM

Well... this little "let's replace the front end bushings" project is just about complete. You may recall that Rudy has a small mishap with a Honda about two weeks after getting his car back.... which evolved into a complete paint job -- which in turn -- led to a complete interior. Today I got a pic of the door panel so that means it's got to be just about done!

A little bump.....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/file-131.jpg

And then the "as long as we're here" starts....

This is a bad photo -- but the "inserts" are perforated. And there's a strip of carpet on the bottom of the door and the raised area is perforated.

Happy is way under where they're at.... I am happy for them. They absolutely love their car... and it needed some serious help. Now they have a safe, great running and fun driver they can enjoy. Plus -- I won't be embarrassed to be parked next to 'em. :D

Oh yeah.... I'll tell him that.... repeatedly!

This is no Tracy Weaver job -- or Sid Chavers etc -- but it's really nice work - very solid looking in person. I think the '57 Pierre just bought from Ironworks might end up here. The guy does real nice structure... and it's plenty good enough (dare I say it) for this kind of build. It's not over the top OMG... but it's way friggin' better than some so called custom interiors I've seen. The headliner - which is just too hard to get a pic of - is just over the top. He used some kind of fabric - and it's absolutely perfect.

Thanks! As stated above - I think Dan has done a real nice job. The car had standard Camaro vinyl interior in it... and we all know those seats were bad from the factory -- so this kinda started when I got him some Recaro's... and then the rest of the car was turning out so nice I told him just to find a decent upholstery shop in Portland and get it done. Dan even took apart the Recaro's and put the perforated in the centers. Really changed the look of them!

Greg, what's SAR's hourly rate? Subtract $20 from that and there's your rate for your home business "Shedworks, LLC"

Well -- SAR should be FREE because when you get done you have to pay someone else to make a car out of it...

My work is free PLUS I pay for all the parts...

He stayed up the first night we unloaded it and polished the entire car.... Pulled the headlights 'cause the rubber trim was on backwards... cleaned out the entire interior so it's now dust free.

I hope I have half his energy when I'm 74!!

I don't do Fords.... had my '32 built - having my '33 built - Jack M built the '65 Mustang... so that leaves my '37 and other than let it go to pot - I haven't touched it. The Nomad has been rebuilt 3 times.... :D

I got a chance to see the finished camaro yesterday. It even stopped raining a bit for me to get a ride in it.
The car turned out really nice, the car drives great a real comfortable ride, even over a set of railroad tracks. Rudy got on it a-bit and the car really plants you in the seat it took off like a rocket.
The car turned out great and its a completly different car than it was before.
Good job on Mr. Welds part.
