Looks great.

Nice looking frame kit from HPI. I emailed them months ago for price and info and they never emailed me back.
Do you have any plans to narrow up the rear, with a kit like ABC Performance?

JUST WANT TO CLEAR THIS UP. THE HPI. CUSTOMS FRAME KIT IS HIGHLY MODIFIED THIS IS NOT THE WAY IT COMES..

Just want to make sure no one orders one and thinks it will look like this! I bought the kit to give me a head start knowing I would have to modify it to make it work for me. still lots more to come on this!
this is what the kit started out looking like.

Wow I actually feel like we moved forward and getting the Belair out of storage early and being able to drive it to the auto show was a side track for sure, hoping to get focused and keep rolling so I stayed out all night to figure out the exhaust system. I think it payed off and this is what direction we are going now.

making a little progress with the exhaust and starting to remember how to tig weld thin stainless again. still along way to go to feel comfortable in all postions but making progress.still working on the frame mods and attempting to learn Cad.design on solidworks to make more parts and it is like learning a diffrent langauge to me. still trying to learn something new every day. Somedays it just seams to be what NOT to do!lol.

Looks real nice!
I know ProE (that's all I do all day) but don't know how to weld.

waynieZ 03-25-2014 11:54 AM

Eric as always nice work. When I saw the exhaust hanger on the frame I was wondering if you were going to put a drive shaft loop in there.

still not done with the design and final details yet but getting it worked out one piece at a time.so hopefully in the next couple of weeks it will take shape.

E.rodz 04-06-2014 07:52 PM

making some progress!!!! I think I have strayed away from my original goal of getting this done in 6 months has gone by the wayside and I just am going to focus on just building something kick ass instead of just nice. At least that is my new plan anyways!

Thanks Marcus I hope your car is starting to come together as well!

E.rodz 04-25-2014 10:14 AM

Making some progress lately it has been a 3 steps forward and only 1 step back so the majiority of progress has been forward. still a long ways to go. learning solid works has been a whole new experience for me I just hope I can get more efficient at it!

tranny crossmember almost done!
http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...psd5ee7184.jpg

http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...psd5ee7184.jpg

http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps806aeb7c.jpg

now on to the turbo piping and the rest of the exhaust!

E.rodz 04-27-2014 04:37 PM

making slow progress but still progress none the less. hoping to get the rest of the exhaust system done in the next week and take off the plywood off and start working on the rest of the frame .

It is the hardest thing to attempt to get things looking symmetrical as possible when everything is everything is Not even close to being symmetrical. it only took 3 times on each side to finally be content with it. still have alot of welding left to go.

http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps31367cd5.jpg

looks like everything up to the motor is all welded up but not done welding the turbo pipes yet.

Frame is looking good Eric. Are the braces for the frame enclosed? Looks like you put triangular plates in between the bracing. Nice touch......

Che70velle 04-27-2014 06:04 PM

Great looking work as usual, Eric. Did you decide on a color for this car yet?

yep. I added the triangle tubes and then decided after looking at the bottom of the c5 vette that I parted out for Chevelle money I likes the way the bottom of the car was flat to smooth the air on the bottom of the car so I thought why not. lots more to come on this.

Talk about getting you ass kicked! between car problems, snowmobile problems, furnace problems,3d cad.learning problems, and crazy busy work schedules there has no time to get back to the Chevelle so finally its time !
I ended up trying to tuck the turbos in far enough to not be able use the stock with radiator so i ordered a northern radiator with the inlets and outlets on the same side and also a drain bung and a steam bung in the radiator already. now is time to make a shroud and do things a little different!http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...psxy2qb7jj.jpg

this going to school a couple nights a week working full time and trying to build a car,um or two at the same time is getting old but i feel that I am making progress just slow progress.started on the rear parts and pieces and I just am on the fence about going to a 3 link and a watts link or moving up the stock mounts on the upper bars and maintaining the fabricated mounts on the rear??
any learned info on these changes would really be helpful.

Eric, I'm using my stock location uppers and lowers out back, although they are adjustable. I'd have loved to go with the watts setup, but refused to allow scope creep to invade the project. I made a gameplan, and stuck to the plan. Although I'm likely going to add a panhard bar later due to tire clearance, as I can't have my rear end moving around. Wish I could help you more.
Oh, is that a receiver hitch?

Stupid scope creep!!! and yep that is a receiver hitch should really help pulling the camper.

HEEP 02-27-2015 05:55 AM

Eric,
So what is the reasoning to replace the rear section? Why not just box it?
