No offense, but the way the list is growing, it looks like you could use some help from someone that shares your very specific skill set. :unibrow: |
# 1 --- that's amazing!
# 2 --- I have little elves that come out at night and do all the fab work. They know how to use the tools. |
Quote:
Haven't you had your fill of "free" work?? |
Quote:
Think you could schedule me in this fall to finish my Mustang. Judging from the amount of tools you have, I think you should be more than qualified, or maybe just more qualified than me. |

Sure! Bring it on up. I can be just like a lot of shops.... I'll take the work in -- do a bunch one day - send you some pics - and then park it in the corner and leave town. OH -- send money in advance too will ya! Quote:
     :faint: :faint: Knew you'd love that!!! |
Greg,
Not sure if this has already been discussed or not, but have you ridden in a Speed '33? If so, what are your thoughts compared to some of the other roadster bodies out there? |
Quote:
I have not ridden in a '33 - Speed 33 or otherwise.... My buddy has a '32 with live axle (Ford 9") and a straight axle up front. It's NOTICEABLY rougher riding than my all IRS/IFS '32 which rides like your grandmothers Cadillac in comparison. BUT -- you just can't get the looks I want using the independent stuff. And it's more complicated. I figure there's about 10 gazillion guys 10 years my senior that are going long distances in these old jalopies --- and if they can hack it - then so can I. Just saving the beating I take in the roadster body will be a miracle. That wind in your face at 65mph just gets real old after a short distance. The key to the ride will be Brizio's expertise knowing the spring rates etc that these cars need. The rear is going to be coil overs... RE: Body These folks have this down pat. The body is crazy nice.... and while you can save a TON of dough (28K vs 10K) going with glass - you can't get that folding tonneau top boot. And the original bodies don't have that either. I can't stand the top all piled up on the back like the stock ones do. That, and the fact that it's all steel, are 300% selling points to me. Drop the top on the Speed 33, put the windows down - and you have a clean looking roadster. Talk to Phil at The RS -- they've built these - and are dealers for this body. My buddy Pierre was going to build one -- and he talked to Phil -- and was very helpful. He should be able to answer any other questions you have with details because I don't know anything about the details. |
only 5 pics of your 33, and 14 pages long.
Unless we get some boobies in here, like in Sieg's thread. I'll check back in a few months. |

SIEG!!! HELP!!!!! |

Well -- I'd be getting rich at that rate!!! I built an entire '55 Chevy - LS2 - 6 speed - AME chassis - slick firewall and inner fenders - raised the floors - new trans tunnel - complete new wiring - all new rubber.... and I charged Rick 1/2 the cost of the chassis for my '37 Ford (6K). I figure I put about 35K in parts in Rudy's Camaro - and it's at the upholstery shop now... so that will be 60K in no time at all... He bought breakfast a couple of times. Now - the fact that those cars are complete crap.... well... you know the old saying about getting what you pay for. I'm ready when you are. (fingers crossed behind my back) -- 60K ALL IN ALL DONE - 2 MONTHS - NO PROBLEM!! EASY!! |
Quote:
You just need to stop and check out Rudy's Camaro at Dan's Custom Upholstery... that'll be fix enough for you. See if you recognize it as the same car it "was". |

Very cool project Greg. The Speed 33s are very nice, couldn't stop looking at one in Columbus at GG's...I don't know maybe it was the chick that got out of it :unibrow: |
Quote:
How close did you get to the upholstery?? I always THOUGHT they were "hi zoot".... because a large percentage of them are hi tech - shaved - slammed - modern wheels... and I never liked them. It wasn't until Roy said - - NO NO -- let's build one traditional. And I started researching and found out that indeed you could build a very nice traditional rod using this body. I had offered to buy a '34 body from SAR (Reel Steel) but after looking at the poor fit and finish of those bodies -- and the work the shizzler did on my '32 I was completely turned off by anything he had his hands in. So the Speed '33 fit right in. |
Why do we play with hot rods when we could be playing with these????

That's gonna be a nice car Greg
|
Thanks Kurt!!
I know he builds a top notch show car that is driven.... now his biggest job is just keeping me from screwing up the design. :D |
pointless....get it?

Very Nice car your building Greg!
|
You cant go wrong with a 33/34 vert. When those came out in a 32 body they hit a home run, top down convertible..top up and windows up just like having a coupe, Best of both worlds. Let Brizios suggest some of the styling thats why you went there. Troy at Rad Rides put them on a short list as one of the few builders he would have build a car for him, That says something. On a side note...Kelsey Hayes wires with dirt track tires 16s an 18s

If truth be known - we've been working for months on the design -- I showed photos of cars I liked -- then he started with the details.... The man knows his stuff... and I'm just going to let him have his way with it... but I told him NO GOLD and NO WIDE WHITES... |
Quote:
Yes -- Okay now I'm trackin' Yes the '62 got sold -- because the deeper I got into it - the more I realized it just wasn't a car I wanted to build --- even though it is going to be a bad azz bubbler.... I'm a hot rodder.... and the '33 is "me". |

Or reach across to open the passenger door... It does have moveable pedals (out of a late model Ford truck) and the seats are adjustable about 18" front to back... I opened the trunk and fell in trying to reach the bottom. That was the end point. |

EGG ZAKERTLY!! I've owned everything -- and if I haven't owned it - I've worked on it or built it... and I love hi tech -- and I love corner carvers (own one!) and all that.... but give me a nice summer afternoon -- and I'll choose the hot rod every time. Until you've owned one -- you just can't "relate".  :woot: |

Actually watching Greg work through the issues, and finally give his impressions of driving the 32, helped me remember why I started building mine and keep pushing through when I was almost burned out and ready to throw in the towel...  |
