We are just waiting
on you Ron. Once that LS7 is out, just need a few measurements.
|
20 inches... yowzers. You gonna run that high of vacuum on the track and street or think you might try to regulate it?
Ed is a Ford guy? what a shame. LOL |
I am relying on his expertise
If he tells me that is where I need to be, then I am going to run with it.
I am not going to be turning crazy R's on the street, so I cannot imagine it will be anywhere close to that just riding around. |

And I have never used banjo fittings on a pan like that. I have to say that is pretty slick on the NASCAR teams' usage, nice and tight packaging and I may have to reconsider doing something like that. Coming off of my current pan with even a 90 deg fitting takes a lot of space to sweep out when I am really just trying to come forward to the pump. I guess it just never popped into my head that they would work for that - they are obvious for brake lines but didn't consider scavenging with them. The screen on the end of the banjo bolt is great too. |
I still think you are dreaming the end car will be street legal!!

The bungs on the bottom
give access to the oil pan bolts, the pan has an internal rail.
The fittings are a banjo style but they snap on and do not have a bolt through them, very slick stuff. I would try and get them used as new ones are very expensive. Still planning on it being street legal not because it will be. The lexan pretty much throws it out, but I can get it to pass inspection once, I am good to go. In NC with older cars, one inspection and they are good for life. I do think it will be silly trying to run street tires on the thing but I will not know until I try it. |
Since we are talking/writing about
the car being street legal. Here is the AP Racing NASCAR pedal box I picked up. Per NASCAR rules the masters must be on the firewall and not in the car and the brake pedal must be steel. This system is the only one I know of that takes a pull type master. The "cage" holds one end of the master and the pedal pulls the rod...No side load with this set-up that can happen with a push type master.

Good stuff man! Using Nascar leftovers makes a hell of alot of sense to me vs. trying to invent your own wheel with lackluster aftermarket parts.
|
Ah hell - I am not on here for a few days, and you go and put more car porn on here!
Looking great! |
I hit the subscribe button so hard I think I almost broke my mouse.

cage build
I have tons of pics of the cage construction, but they all seem to look the same after a while. Will try to pick and choose to give someone an idea of what is going on. Cage, when completed, will be NASA certified with a log book. I do not plan on going wheel to wheel racing, but you never know...I also have young kids, so I want to be as safe as possible.

YOu can see from the last photo
posted and the following, Jake put the frame back into the jig to finish welding the cage so the frame does not move.

Didn't realize you're doing all that AWESOME
|
Looking good Payton!
Just another PT build raising the bar for those of us in the Pro Tinkering Class. :D |
Thanks guys!
Not sure what you would call my build, I may be coloring outside the lines a little bit to be called pro-touring...but that is where it started.
|
Don't care what you call it.. Please color outside of the lines! Looking forward to what the car will look like..

Whatever you call it it's gonna be light, low and faster than a muther trucker. :D :trophy-1302: |
'Everything's Jake.'

Its funny, once everybody realized that you couldn't really hear the big kicking stereo over the engine, and rarely ever turned on the a/c, and when we did it was low on freon. What the hell, why put all that heavy crap in there.
The first time I went over 150 mph and carried it for a 1/2 mile or so, in a vehicle as aerodynamic as a brick, I realized the cage was my friend, and I will put up with that extra weight and expense. I personally, am still not ready for permanent door bars on a tagged car. Freakin race car!! I would have said HOMO, but don't think that's allowed anymore. LOL I do think we need to name this new breed of cars, how about ragged touring, or lets go back to my roots, and call them street racers. Wow they sound stupid, we need somebody creative to get on this. |

Some one at SEMA called it 'Pro-Racing'. I kinda like that as long as the real deal racers aren't around. When they are its 'Pro-Tracing' |
How about calling these "Road Raged"
|

That sounds like a porn flick. Lol
I meant Road Ragged, but Fun To Drive would work as well. |
Y'all are a funny bunch
Maybe "Wanna be." As in a wanna be race car driver.
|
You can name it whatever you're heart desires. It won't change how badass the car and others like it are to me.

I forgot to subscribe.
Awesome buiLd. |
The Battle Axe?
BMF Killar. Forino' Huntr Just a few... :knokwood: |
Battle Axe already exists. It's a black 69 Camaro with a big big block. Donovan I think. Bob Johnson had it built by Johnson's Hot Rods

Kinda liking the thread title/car name too...:headscratch: |
I'm with Ron honestly. I think Thrift Shop Camaro is a good name. After all, you're using a lot of second hand parts. It's unique and catchy. Someone do up a rendering of a magazine cover with a fancy font. Something that will really grab the person browsing and make them want to pick up the magazine then we can sell Payton on the name. :D
