I had a '68 GT back in '93 or so and I've always been fond of the Torinos, so I'm checking in regularly too!

Thanks Wayne, it ships tomorrow, hoping for another picture today!

Killer parts list!
Those are pretty small heads for those cubes. |

I am hoping they are adequate for my build. I am still just doing a PT car so no real drag racing. Here are the specs for a 351 Bore. FLOW DATA 4.030" BORE Lift Intake Exhaust 0.100 71 60 0.200 140 111 0.300 208 150 0.400 261 185 0.500 298 212 0.600 321 227 |
Should be a great street motor with tire shredding torque all day long. :)
|
|
Wow that is sweet!
|
Thanks guys I've learned allot on this build. My daughter doesn't get to help as much since she is in college 60 miles away. I miss those days with her.
|
So pretty! Will you be painting it Ford blue, Joe?
|
Cool ride Joe! Nice to be different. When I was a kid back in the seventies my aunt had a red '68 FB with a white interior. She was a hotshoe in her day. Killed my uncle since he was a die hard Mopar guy. LOL ! That Torino left quite an impression on me.
|
Progress is awesome Joe! I have a soft spot for Torinos and Galaxies.
Loving this build... |

Torino
Joe,
I bet you get a lot more the 500hp out of that engine mostly due to the compression... should be fun Nice build Bob |
Thanks Bob, I am excited :D

It has been a while since I updated this...
I had 9 days straight to work on the sheetmetal and had to go back to work Tuesday. I don't have allot to show as I had not expected how long it would take to cut 1 million spot welds :bang: I started by cutting out the driver side floor pan, and toe kick. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...psagx5lstm.jpg I did some rust prevention using POR15 on the "so called" frame rail. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...pshoga7xrx.jpg My transmission mounts were only spot welded on, I guess that how they did it in 1968. I ran some beads in several places so I didn't have to worry about ripping them off when I dump the clutch  . http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...pszc5ev73s.jpg I set the floor pan and toe kick in place and did some more marking. I have not tacked them in yet because I need to make a pattern to use for tunnel replacement. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps9rrgw2mj.jpg |
I was tired of messing with the floor so I moved on to removing the inner fender well to tub it.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps8z7ymtl8.jpg I had to drill out all the spot welds on the inner support and remove it for later modification. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...psmo8zsh55.jpg Back to cutting http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...psqrmtbeax.jpg I was a happy old Jarhead when this came out in one piece as I am trying to modify it. They don't make tubs for Torino's, just Stangs, and Camaro's lol. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...pslutxuvhi.jpg On to clean up the so called frame rail, and check for rust. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...psovred1ek.jpg A trunk shot... http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...psxgayiuet.jpg While I was inside the fender well, I removed metal that covered the rocker, and a piece of the inner fender that was toast. I found allot of dirt and junk in the rocker. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps14fzjfv6.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...psqycz3ntl.jpg The inner fender piece will be a real pleasure to make:bang: http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...pstub3te8c.jpg I purchased 69 Torino fender extensions (on the left). i didn't care for the 68's (on the right). http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...pspjcmq6mn.jpg I now have to spin the dainty barge 180 in my small shop so I can get to my welder. Hopefully some more progress will happen soon :animated_bye_bye_em Joe |
Nice job Joe, keep picking away at it!
|
You're making good progress Joe, keep at it!
I forget, are you re wiring the car? If so, what kit? I've been looking in to the Ron Francis kits. Jason |

Yes I took all the wiring out and will get a Ron Francis. I called them and they will give you a better selection than their vendors get (so to speak), you can specify different things for a harness that say you would order from Summit using the same part number. I may get this one or the next higher priced one, depends on the needs of the system when I get there :-) https://www.ronfrancis.com/prodinfo.asp?number=XP%2D67 |
Nice work, Joe!

I've been working on a 68 to 69 tail light conversion on my 68 GT.
I never did care for the extra large tail lights on the 68. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...pspjcmq6mn.jpg Made a prototype sheetmetal piece to get close as possible for the 69 mounting. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...psbqfmhmtq.jpg Found the best location for it and held it temporarily with sheet-metal screws. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps8rowmfdm.jpg Mounted the 69 fender extension to check for fit. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...psq0idmpkf.jpg Lens fits pretty good. I will fill in all the holes with muggy weld to delete the chrome trim. I will modify this one and then make two final mounts. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...pslwevqhkw.jpg |
A lot of love in that fab work Joe...
Looks great! |

The 69 tail light assemblies are installed. I still am not happy with the final results, back to the 18 gauge stash for another pattern.
I bit the bullet and bought a lower front drivers side quarter panel, and a trunk drop down. The amount of time it took to make the light mounts was more time than I had to spare, but I like fabrication. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...psybq8pbsh.jpg I like the 69 lights much better than the 68 originals... http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...o/trimGT-1.jpg |
