Yeah,
I wish I could finish it up inside but I need to focus on getting the house built first.......wife is a little sensitive about that

Your right, I should start a build thread for the shop, but heck, it took Ron S to throw me off his thread for me to get off my azz to start this Nova build thread.....ha ha.

I love the stance.

What size wheels and tires are those?
Tried to look it up it but couldn't find it.

18 X 9.5 with 275/35/18 up front
19 X 12 with 335/30/19 in the rear

Nice Nova. The hood vents are a cool touch, and the stance is sweet. Good luck on getting the house done soon so you can get back to finishing the car.

Killer ride Jeff. I hope you don't mind if i try to put some of your ideas to good use. Did you move your rear frame rail up and in? Is that what I'm seeing just inside the tubs where the rear seat would be. I widened my tubs about half an inch and then cut further in to the frame rail Can you speak a little more on how your wheel house modifications have given you extra room? is it at the edges that you were concerned about width? I've got 14.5" of space across 70% of my wheel well. Thanks Shannon

Shannon,

We did trim the frame back a bit more than the directions show to flatten that area of the tub (also plated the back side of frame to give strength), also formed front inside leading edge to allow a little more room in those corners. On the right side, the DSE panhard bracket protrudes into wheelhouse area (see pic earlier in the thread)...that was flushed and replated (this area was REALLY tight to wheel/tire and would have interfered). Basically once you make your initial fit of the tubs, you will see the areas that reduce the space, in most areas you can trim and fit to make them better. The REAL gain is the outer tub, if you are going to lower the car to the height I have mine, the tire will not fit and fully articulate with the factory tub...the radius is too low and flat where it meets the quarter panel.

Jeff, by chance do you have any other pictures of the mods to the frame rails and tubs?

Thanks for the input Jeff. From what I could tell from the pics, it looks like your replacement outer tubs that you fabricated run horizontally directly to the quarter panel without turning down towards the lip of the wheel house. Is that correct? Did you leave any of the original outer tub in place?

Correct, they do not turn down. A minor gap (1/8") was left between the 1/4 panel and the outer tub. I did not want the possibility of a "wave" or line to ever show up where the tub met the 1/4 sheet metal, we urethaned the gap to bond the two pieces, but to also allow for movement/expansion as the two parts heat/cool to weather etc. I did leave a 1" band of the original outer tub and the area where the bracing welds to it ( you can see a good picture of it on first page of thread that shows the driver side with rear 1/4 removed.

Tom,

I will have to look back through some pics to see if any have an angle that shows that area better.

That was the one event I really hoped to make this year!! I placed third there in 2012 in my 67 LS7 Corvette, I won 2 of the 3 events (drag and speed stop challenge). I placed 7th the year before. I love the event but just do not have time to finish the car for competition this year. I'll be there for sure next year!!!

I'll let you know how I do I'm taking my C5 Z06 since my nova is far from done. It's my first time ever doing anything like this. Hope I don't make a fool of myself.

Come to the event you can show me how to drive.

Nah, you wont make a fool of yourself.

You'll have a blast. It's a fast paced event and you do have to pay attention to the schedule to ensure you get all of your runs in. Just know that the competition is tough, lots of good drivers and cars attend this event. Have fun and take the opportunity to ride along with other drivers on the auto-X, great chance to see how others attack the course.

I'm from Kyle Tuckers home town and one of my good friends went to High school with him so I'm going to try getting a ride with him to see how he drives. Figure might as well learn from one of the best.

Well, I obviously have not updated this thread in awhile. Between moving and work just beating me down this year, I have not have much time to work on the car. I have made some progress and hope to get it running in the next few months. Major items left are to wire it up, finish out the interior and fabricate some front inner skirts. I did manage to get the car to DSE's open house in October and Kyle was gracious enough to display it in the shop. Have to admit, that was a little intimidating having the car along side of their amazing projects. Here are a couple of pics from the open house. I'll post up some more with additional details over the next couple of weeks.

Congrats on the spotlight there at DSE ..... That's a good looking Nova!

Question: what did you fab for the hood hinges since you went with the fiberglass fenders? If you could post a couple pixs I would appreciate it!

Thanks,
Michael

Great looking car. Glad you're getting settled. Good luck finishing up the car!

1coolC2 12-20-2014 05:04 PM

Exhaust is all finished up! My buddy Matt knocked it out for me and did a spectacular job. 3" stainless all tucked up above the bottom of the subframe. I opted to hang the mufflers out back to increase ground clearance and add the weight in the rear of the car. Cant wait to fire it up and see how she sounds :-)
Hauling it home tomorrow and will get back to work on it after Xmas.

Michael,

The hinge mounts are basically a U shaped pedestal off the front down bars. I believe you can see them on an earlier photo of the car when the front clip was removed. I will see if I can dig up a better pic and post it for ya.

Not bad for a "Vette Guy"! :peepwall: :stirthepot: :goggles:

Have always wondered how Jeff lived in the Vette world. He hardly wears any jewelry, and his chest hair barely cascades out of his shirt. He's an anomaly at best. Maybe that's why he's doing a Nova.:lostmarbles:

Ugh,

I need to update this thread with some info and pics. Still slow going, but I have managed to spend time here and there getting stuff done. Car is almost completely wired...whew, that's a PITA painstaking job, but it looks great. Still need to plumb the engine and finish the intake/induction along with fabbing up some inner skirts for the front. Almost time to fire this pig up!! I'll try and post up some pics soon.

Are you coming to Charlotte for the Optima qualifier? And bringing this car? Could be the deadline you need to get it finished.

Clt qualifier

Payton, when is this?

Payton,

I would love to say yes...but, deadlines are not an option at this point. I am just trying focus what available time I can and keep plugging. I am registered for the Motorstate challenge, that is my goal, but not a deadline  Heading back out next month :military:

Both Motorstate and USCA event is the same weekend. July 25-26

That is going to cut attendance to both events.

My car is never getting off jack stands, so I am having to live through you and Ron.

Oh my god Peyton, that makes you sound really desperate making that statement :snapout:

Ummmm,
Car is running and driving. Even had the chance to run it at GoodGuys Charlotte a few weeks ago......man I suck at keeping this post up. Here are a couple of pics of the car at GG Auto-X, had a blast with it! Need to get some things tuned with the suspension set-up and finish the interior and it's ready for next year. I'll try and post how it actually got to this point from the last post that actually showed progress.
