All cat fights aside, I did notice some big-deal signups for Saturday, including Maier and Cortex (Mike and Filip). These represent very cool, highly developed Mustangs, and this time around, I should actually have time to appreciate the scenery, and maybe witness the catfighting in person...
I also saw Mike Musto on the list--he's the Web TV car guy, right? Cool. We've all probably seen his show... As yet, I seem to have the only Falcon signed up, representing what might very well be the worst paint on the track. Better now than later. Heck yeah! |

Expectations for a 600 hp stock subframe leaf spring car will be nothing compared to what lap times you will be expected to lay down  |

Ugh... I am so bummed I have to miss this event with it right here in my own back yard. I drive past Sears Point 2x a day and have been looking forward to it since Thunder Hill... that I missed because the car was still in the shop.
I have had one issue after another getting the correct parts from Hurst DL for my TKO600 kit and Ridetech over the past 3-4 months. I wont go into details but it is the old - wrong parts in the order and the you need this part to make that part work scenario. With the shipping times back and forth we've killed almost 2 months. The silver lining is I have a new TKO 600, new triple adjust RT front shocks and new RT control arms because the new FOX shocks don't fit the old control arms... but they didn't tell me that at first. :bang: I also have a new ECU and system controller now too. So we should be good to go. Of course, I should have the car back later this week but with zero miles on the new clutch and tranny so I didn't pull the trigger on registering fearing this would happen. Now my wife has guilted me into going to Monterey & Santa Cruz this weekend so I wont see you guys. But I do get a nice weekend away at the beach. I will be in Pleasanton for WCN's so look forward to seeing some of you there and I'm in on the next Norcal event for sure! Have fun boys and I will be checking in each night for play by play, spirited banter with Flash & Weld and pics. |
That SUCKS Jeff. Was really looking forward to meeting you finally and seeing your car.
Hopefully your upgrades are worth it. |
Okay then --- I think we might have a new winner in the "Cup O'excuses" dash...with Gaetano now running a close second.
Not only did you jump to the lead you pulled a double off with a "Wifey" tossed in for good measure. Jeff -- I was looking forward to a pretty good gathering of players... and would have liked to get together but we all have been there and we all understand. EVENTUALLY THOUGH you'll get your sh!t together and come whip us all and share a few good natured laughs. Quote:

Sorry--I forgot to mention the other "big deal:" Mr. Weld. This time, if I don't see The Weld, I will make sure to take a selfie standing next to his trailer/living room, so as to prove I tried...
On a side note, I received my "Stick, you B!tch!!!" stickers today, so my level of competence on the track will undoubtedly be elevated. Thank you to Mary Pozzi, by the way--I'll be sure to provide evidence from Sonoma/Infineon/SearsPoint/racewaytrack after the weekend... |

A new tranny, better shocks and better camber & caster set up on the new control arms are worth it... but come with a lighter wallet. To RT's credit, they did help me out on the pricing because of the issues. Quote:
Since I was at the Sonoma Nationals last week end, scoring a few points with the wifey will pay dividends in the future. |
A short clip of me enjoying a couple laps in the little Loti!
I absolutely LOVE Sonoma Raceway --- everyone had a great time... weather was beautiful -- a bunch of Lat G guys showed up on Saturday and we all had a good time BS'n. |
Definitely a really good time. My co-worker Dana took alot of really good pics with shots of me and Greg and even the spin Pete got into in front of me and nearly collected me. Just got the flash drive this morning so I'll post them tonight.

That's a pretty neat trick with Turn 11 being the last turn on to the front straight..... |

You forget I own TWO cars.... The Mustang was scheduled for the Ron Sutton Race Technologies "do over".... the motor issue is just incidental. I WILL be at Thunderhill in October. |
Most familiar view to everyone in NorCal Shelby expert class

Is it time for the LS or is it a simple 4-5K repair/refresh?
Sounds like everyone had a hoot and kept the cars together for the most part. Dan |

Hopefully the tear down of that motor will reveal the cause(s) of the reliability issues. When that motor is working proper it sounds great and more importantly the power delivery is controllable and abundant. That equals fun as all get out to drive which is what this is all about! Considering how he treats the motor at the very least he should get two or three seasons without ANY issues IMO. The first session on Saturday Greg is right in front of me leaving the hot pits and punches it a little to test traction and leaves two 15' blackies..........and I'm just smiling thinking how great it is to be a kid again. :D Sears Point is an awesome track, no time to relax and plenty of opportunity to get in trouble which makes it very exciting. Pictures are coming. Having never been on the track before the first day was learning lines especially since I didn't get a chance to do a track walk. Saturday night I walked the track by myself and learned A LOT which helped my lines and confidence on Sunday. My last session on Sunday was the most enjoyable as I was confidently starting to carry a fair amount of speed, enough that I had to tell myself to keep it in check because my lines and techniques are still far from what I'd consider refined. The little Lotus is very user friendly and amazingly potent. Greg proved that Sunday afternoon against some very serious car and driver combinations. |
Good to hear Sieg, well not about the motor but these things happen. Looking forward to the pictures as well as Sutton and Welds plan for the car.
Rusto, how'd the lil falcon do? Dan |

RE: The pony motor
My guess is it went lean. All the messing around with the carb trying to make it work without the regulator may or may not have had something to factor in IDK. I was hard in to it when whatever it was let go. The exhaust was almost white instead of the usual dove grey. Doesn't really matter to me... we'll just build it over or put something else in. It'll be up and running for the October 5 mile at Thunderhill. Should have all new suspension as well as tires and wheels... so that will be a complete new tuning and set up challenge. Ron Sutton Race Technologies will be on the job dialing it all in. GAETANO..... all I saw when I checked my mirrors was you getting smaller and falling further behind. Lucky for you I had a pressure regulator fail and had to go to the pits to see what was wrong. That probably saved you some embarrassment. The skinny little 245's out gunning the steam rollers. Maybe more motor will help you next event? LOL |
First session on Saturday in green group during lap 2 or 3 everybody was reminded that this is a dangerous and expensive hobby. Story is he spun in his own fluid coming out of T8. Mike in our group was a couple cars behind and said he had to catch his car coming through the section and was pretty sure something was on the track.
From what I heard the car let go then hooked up and shot left off track and moved a 7,000 pound K wall and thankfully the driver was fine. I'm guessing the speed through that section is 80-90 mph and the K wall is 50-75' off the track. http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-Q...QtW3dnZ-XL.jpg http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-t...tLvPMV7-XL.jpg http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-t...t8JnjHg-XL.jpg http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-4...4rsfNd9-XL.jpg What this reinforced for me is the first session is an acclamation period for the driver and car. Pushing 9 or 10 tenths first session out isn't in anyones best interest IMO. What's the track like today? Are you on your game or maybe feeling slightly off? Is the car near a 100% or was it apart prior to the event and not tested or thoroughly safety checked? Could that fluid leak issue have been detected prior with a couple easy laps or could the crash have been prevented running the first session at 70-80%? All speculation but worthy of consideration.......again IMO. |
