That's good to hear! Yeah that NE humidity accelerated the rust on my car just from sitting still ... grrrrr!

Lighter cars are faster, right?

Scott's gotten past the point of taking more stuff off and we've started putting stuff back on. Left side trunk drop off is in and the driver's quarter panel is "Mocked" (pun intended) on, ready to weld.
I don't think he used enough clamps... did anyone buy stock in Irwin? |
Its getting good with parts be put back on!!
|

After a lot of careful work, we have a driver's side quarter installed. Although I hate this part of a build, slow and steady wins the race. He's TIG'g them on.
The body gaps seem right, with a little bit of play, they should be perfect. |
Nice!
|
Looks great, are those AMD qtrs? :thankyou:

This is not my favorite part of any build, considering it's backwards to the build. |

The right side needed a bit more love, so the outer (DSE is now innner) needed replacement.
|

The right side quarter is on, but for a little more TIG welding.
Scott decided to start playing with the fun stuff. Installing the front suspension... that include C7 components. :) |
Those parts are going to make such a nice build. It looks good and the subsframe's not even painted.

Now that the sheet metal repair is mostly done (still a little TIG welding left) I can order the carbon fiber panels I need, inner and outer front fenders, maybe door skins (opinions?) a less visions intrusive hood, etc. I do want to stay with the non RS/Split bumper nose I have, as the full bumper is staying. Need opinions there. Most of the carbon fiber will be painted, may do SS stripes in clear.
Scott can also get back into the more fun stuff... like installing my front sub frame. It truly looks amazing, like it was built for the car. The headers fit very nicely, as does the trans/bell housing. Looks like the lowest point on the car (so far) will be the lower C7 a-arm. That includes the headers, which just needed a stainless o2 bung welded inside, as the one Stainless Works put on would interfere with the sub frame. Can't wait to see the v-bands TIG'd on to the true dual exhaust with a crossover pipe. Scott also has a new Z/28 there to see how they did the exhaust over the 5th gen IRS we're using. I had a TR6060 built with a mid mount shifter. May end up going with a tail mounted shifter, as it lines up with the factory shifter hole. I did buy a gen4 Camaro console, as I thought it would clean up the floor nicely. It's supposed to fit the mid mount better on our cars. All sorts of interest there. If not, I have a line on a Gen 5 console, that may fit the tail mounted shifter better. Still juggling that. |

So it looks like I have to move my mid mount shifter. The gen4 console works great with the tail shifter position.
Scott will re-work the trans tunnel a little and create mounts for the center console. Can't wait to see all those holes filled. Someone was installing shifter boots by braille! Also looks like I can use a Lokar ebrake handle in the OEM gen iv position. Also can't wait to get rid of all the crappy wiring. It also looks like I may help clear up a reputation issue on the board... I found a 1 gen Camaro sub frame of Scott's that needs love shown to it, installed into a 68 Camaro convertible I have here. May grab Wayne's SBC for that ;). |
Merry Christmas, everyone.

Same to you and your family JJ.

It looks like its going to work out nice.

Progress

With the final body repair (except for doors and fenders, it's time to call Anvil) we can get onto more fun things.
Like chopping up a 2012 Camaro IRS to fit into a 73 Camaro. Scott will also have to fabricate a lot of the rear floor pan, hope I can use the 2006 GTO rear seat I bought. I ordered a Rick's tank with Vaporworx and a CTSV twin fuel pump set up. It's very pretty and should provide this motor with all the fuel it needs. Scott also got the front down on wheels with new metric lug nuts, and build rear stand offs to make it more moveable. I can't wait to see the flaming river stainless column, u-joints and intermediate shaft hanging through that saved firewall. Scott also makes brackets for the vintage air unit under the dash. We've decided to re-drill the rear Camaro hubs, as they have a slightly different bolt pattern, but also use a meatier axle shaft than the Corvette hubs. Although I wonder if a later model Camaro (C6 or C7) uses the same spline count as the Camaro. I do have a set of C6 ZO6 rear hubs here, along with the entire rear suspension. Can't wait to see the firewall supports, sub frame connectors and Ride Tech cage installed. Should be a very stiff chassis. |
Happy New Year ... man that Camaro is looking great! Scott is cutting up the rear end, getting close :popcorn2:
You bringing to Pikes Peak OUSCI this year? Michael |
Looking good JJ
|
That is some serious work right there!! Love watching this one come together....
|
I’ve confirmed that the Camaro hub is 33 spline:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=276561 Same as the Z06/Z07/ ZR1 Corvette. http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...rear-hubs.html Might be an expensive way to avoid drilling a new bolt pattern in the rear hubs? Anyone with first hand knowledge? Thanks for all the check ins, BTW. Happy New Year. |
Nice parts. It looks good all coming together.
|
Ever read your own build threads to remind yourself of how far a project has gone?
Yeah, me neither :goggles: I am really looking forward to getting this back, getting my motor/trans into it and some paint on 'er. |
I ordered all the DSE adjustable linkages for the rear suspension. Should be a fun box for the UPS driver...
|
Amazing progress... Scott has more metal shaping talent in his little finger than I do in my entire body. Thanks for the frequent updates, very inspiring to those of us who aren't moving at LightSpeed like you two :)

I can't wait to post pics of the necxt phase... it looks like we're going full frame, just ordered these, which will be cut in through the floor pan. Scott's got something up his sleeve, he won't send me pics :)

Where are those rails from
|
Great Build! Scott is doing some impressive work. Can't wait to see how the IRS is set up in the car. I love the IRS in my car!

Frame rails are in KS... which means it's cutting time.
Looking forward to the next pics from Scott. |

The IRS is placed up and level. Scott has a migraine. I am glad he has a 5th gen to reference. I also just bought a ZL1. |
Its catchy isn't it.

Just finished reading the whole thread-- IMPRESSIVE!!!
|
I really can't wait to get this back... considering my truck and trailer is still out there.
Do you know how tough it is to live without a pick up? :hitaxeonthehead: |
