Glen,
I love this build. Perfect color choice IMHO. What color is it called? So glad I stumbled upon this thread.. Great job !!!

WSSix 12-18-2016 03:28 PM

Coming along nicely. I'm glad you've decided to do some changes to the front colors. I think it will look better the way your planning to do it. Good luck!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this statement? As of now the colors have not changed on the car in a long time, the only real change from the rendering way back when is the stripe layout. I decided against the Boss stripe as it started to get too common on not only Mavericks but new Mustangs and F150's. Ford has been using it quite a bit lately and the design lost its uniqueness to me.

Thanks to all that are following and for the positive comments. Believe it when I tell you they all help when you are pushing through. The car heads back to the booth this Friday and will masked and have the stripes sprayed Monday if all goes well. Then pulled apart and all parts cleared separately.

Centerforce 12-21-2016 05:46 PM

With the paint looking as good as it did before, we can only imagine how good it's going to look with the stripes and more clear!

Gonna be a big week. Stay tuned................

This morning I arrived at the booth at 6:45am and starting laying color. I had a couple small spots I touched up and needed to spot them in, then did one full even coat on everything. After that it was time to lay out the stripes. All this took until around 4pm. At that point I called it quits and went home to spend some time with the family. Back at it again first thing to start laying the clear down when I am fresh and rested.

So today was another long day at the shop. Got the shell, doors and hood all cleared. After a bake I was able to get the wheels and tires back on and get it out of the booth to clear the fenders and trunk lid. Those are baking as I type this.

If you believe the weather men, we might be having a storm coming. So I am not sure how much will happen tomorrow. I will get the truck and trailer Friday and bring the car home.

Thanks again for all the feedback and comments. Always nice to hear people that appreciate what I'm doing.

I went in to the shop today to get a couple things done and then head home to spend time with my family. This is supposed to be a vacation week. But instead I have 50 hours and Just shy of $1000 in materials in this final booth session.

Today I masked up the trunk area, covered the car with plastic sheeting and painted the trunk hinges. I really wish Ford made these a "serviceable" item. But since they are not removable this is what I was relegated to do.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pspxb0ya4e.jpg

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pstqtiorlw.jpg

Then after unmasking everything but the interior, I reinstalled the hood and fenders. Nothing is lined up very critically, just enough to load it up into the trailer tomorrow and get it home. Then all the parts will come back off for final assembly of the drivetrain and upholstery.

I Really LOVE the subtlety of the two colors together for the stripes. At some angles they completely disappear, then Bam!, they are there as two different as any colors could be.

Thank you. Took some time to come up with just the right pairing, but I also think I hit it.

Today I went and got the car. I pushed it outside into daylight and was able to stand back, it was thrilling to say the least. Loaded it up in the trailer for the trip home. Once unloaded I took a few more pics before pushing it back into my backyard garage.

Later this weekend I will disassemble the fenders, hood and doors and start the sand and buff stage. Then on to installing the engine and trans. After that, final assembly of everything else.

The sanding and buffing process has begun. I pulled the fenders and hood off, then covered the window openings with plastic sheeting along with the engine compartment.

Started with 800 and went all the way up to 3000, then started buffing. So far very happy with the results. Roof, quarters and rear tail pan along with the rear valance are now done. I need to hit a couple small spots and then do the cowl.

I got the roof and both quarters all sanded and buffed. Now time to move on to some mechanical things. I bent up the stainless brake lines, got the heater box and inside heater hoses hooked up. Then I dropped the engine in place, what a moment! A little too much chrome for me, but the valve covers and air cleaner are not staying. I have a set of paint matched Billet Specialties covers to install later after all the fab/dirty work is done. Don't want to scratch them.

Then I got the car back off the floor and up on the Quick Lift ramps. Now I can install the transmission, run the fuel lines, get the driveshaft in etc. So much to do..........

Stainless braklines are all installed!
AOD Transmission is installed!
Ford Motorsport aluminum driveshaft is installed!
Fuel lines are all installed!
Aeromotive Fuel pressure regulator installed!
Coil packs are installed!
Radiator is installed!
Lokar throttle cable installed!

Yesterday was a long day, but got a lot done.

This morning I mounted the brake pedal assembly. Need to do the throttle as well, but found where I have to modify the mount for my liking. I also mounted the seats one last time to make sure things were good just for drill. I am dropping them off tomorrow at the upholsterers and wanted to be 100% positive it all worked properly before I did that. Happy with the fitment, I had my daughter come out and sit to see how things adjust for her. This is one happy kid.

So I have started the wiring on the car. Definitely not my forte. I have some help from a good friend that has wired tons of hot rods, so all will be good.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps2dkmwfmm.jpg

I decided I couldn't live with the coil packs black. They stuck out like a sore thumb, so I took them back off and painted them body color with matte clear.

I started the plumbing of the heater lines from the engine to the fender well. I am using the stainless hose and ends from Gotta Show. Pretty nice stuff.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps50sxwcn2.jpg

I installed the parts on the back of the car. Anyone that has been following along knows I pie cut the bumper ends and reshaped them. While not fitted to the new Pro Touring 3/16 gap, this is tons better than any factory Maverick. Love the look of that chrome from Advanced Chrome Plating in Tn. Also installed the trunk lock key and the stainless fuel filler from Johnson's Hot Rod Shop.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps1qpxeefc.jpg

I have 13" disc brakes at all four corners from Engineered Components Inc. They use all GM parts so if I ever have an issue while traveling everything can be sourced from any good parts store. Here is what the factory, very rough cast caliper is like from GM. No thanks, so I spent 2 hours per caliper smoothing them. Then when done I painted them all body color.

So its a freezing cold 20 degrees outside, and the heater in my shop isn't working. Made for a chilly day working on the car, but, I have to push through if I want to ever drive this thing.

Today I pulled all the front suspension back out of the car. When I installed it, I did so loosely and with out any grease or anti seize. I wanted to rip it back apart, make sure everything was lubed up properly, and put back together correctly this time around. I had done all that originally just to make the car a roller, but now as we are in final assembly mode, it was time to get it all set.

In doing so, I got the brakes installed for the last time. This is a set of 13" drilled and slotted rotors, and the calipers I smoothed and painted. I am LOVING the look!!

So there is a blizzard going on outside, and the CT Governor as issued a travel ban. So whats a guy to do? Walk out to the garage, turn the heat up and get to work!

Today was spent doing more mechanical assembly stuff. New valve covers are now installed. Matching air cleaner is stuck in transport, I will paint it over the weekend and install next week. Spark plug wires made and routed nice and neat. I made the transmission cooler lines and installed them. Also, because the electric fan was going to hit the snout of the water pump pulley, I had a friend bend me up a new one and offset the fan. Not optimal, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Been busy lately doing things that don't add up to much for an update. That and a weeks worth of travel for work make it difficult to get things done. So here is the latest with many mini updates in one.

I finally got the rear brakes installed and the cables run for the e brake.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pss2cpehlm.jpg

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psgmjmit52.jpg

Here is the E brake and the battery.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pstnzfpv4a.jpg

Tank installed and all fuel lines hooked up. Just need to install the tank level float.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pslxhuvs8x.jpg

After getting the new front seat foams out of the box, my upholsterer and I were talking about how cool it would be to get another set and make it look like it has four bucket seats. So, of course I ordered another set right away. Here is a quick mock up of them in place.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psfng3s3lk.jpg

And here is the teaser of the front seat bottom. Black vinyl and b/w Houndstooth.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psqsq77fvs.jpg

Today I got the drivers door sanded and buffed, then hung in place. I love this reflection and definition of image.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psplspmwrx.jpg
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps7mdsvkwt.jpg

Also installed the Ring Brothers door handles and the door lock.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pskqxsue0d.jpg

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps710xl2zl.jpg

After that, I had to finally make a upper radiator hose. when I installed the March Performance serp kit it made the stock V8 hose not work. I have tried in vain to find something that would work, but no luck. So, with the aid of some pieces I was able to tack all these individual steel tubing together. I will bring it to a friend and have it all tig welded, then smooth it out. Not sure if I will paint it or have it coated when done.

It came out nice, and I am happy with it. But I really just wanted a simple black rubber hose. It seems like nothing on this car has gone that way, not sure why I expected this hose to be any different.

Glad I could help, and possibly inspire. On a unibody car it is difficult to find a good location that is safe and out of the way. On my car this was the best option. In the end its just dead space anyway, so it worked out perfect!
