Exceptional work Ken!
|
Having second thoughts about using a rubber feed line submersed in Gasoline in the tank.......Does anyone know what type of material the Soda straw tubes and GM pump bodies are made from and what type of adhesive/sealant is used by GM in the assembly process ????????
Thanks Ken |
Very nice build.
I wouldn't do rubber either, maybe a TFE hose? Sorry, I don't know what they're made of. Perhaps call Hector at Rick's Tanks? He helped me out with a bunch of tanks for odd ball vehicles. |
Ask mark of bent custom and performance he is a vendor here. He specializes in all types of line . Kevin

Been busy at the shop so not a lot of time for Car parts......I finally got the fuel pump situation put to bed........I ordered a set-up from Ricks that has a dual filtered in tank pick ups for supplying the fuel pump......there are a couple of brackets that the pick-ups snap into that needed to be tack welded in the Tank to hold them in position......Got that finished today........Now I can finish welding the Pump plate into the tank.........Getting real close !!!!!!!

It's looking good Ken.
|
Got home from Vacation and I was hoping the Elves would have the car back together.....No Luck......Gas Tank is not finished yet either........But !!!......Got a box in UPS with new shocks in it........Can't do anything till the Tank gets finished.......Darn !!!!

Look what is finally finished..........I'll get it installed........finish up the fuel line.......install the Vaporworx fuel pressure control system........then off to the Exhaust shop........
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...6968071DEF.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...66C37A8B6D.jpg |
Got everything finished except for the Exhaust system........all the wiring is completed......the last wires were for the Vaporworx fuel pressure controller......got it buttoned up and turned the key on......The pump ran for a couple seconds and shut off......with out starting that's exactly what it's supposed to do..........Now I have to put some gas in the tank to start it up......then get it to the exhaust shop...........Next project coming up shortly is to take the 454 out of Gary's 65 Biscayne and swap in a LS3.........Stay Tuned........

Love that car!
|
That is probably the most funky factory designed tank i've ever seen. What did you do, take a stock tank and cut and fab a portion for the vaporworx set up? if you posted i musta missed it...
|
Ken we need a video when you fire it up! Nice!
|
|
Very nice ... you make it look easy! What exhaust you putting under this girl?
Thanks for sharing ... :popcorn2: |

Nothing exotic........X pipe and Dynomax Super Turbo's......... |
Won't be long now.....
T, |
Looks great! I love wagons. Nicely done on the fuel system as well.
|
That thing sounds beastly! Hopefully the exhaust will keep the same kinda tone!
|
A little update.....After starting the car it was noticed that the Alternator wasn't charging.........Ended up I had to put a ground wire from the alternator to the block.......charges fine now.....no fuel line leaks.......Added transmission fluid......everything Good......Made an appointment at the Muffler shop to get the Exhaust system installed......Then we have a problem..........Started the car and let it run for a while to check out the cooling fans.......Look under the car and coolant leaking .....Damm........Ended up being the Concept1 Billet thermostat housing leaking where they put the Hose Tube into the body.........called them and they said that they had a problem with them and changed the way they manufacture them to eliminate that problem........the "Big" problem is that the housing is buried under everything and I had to pretty much remove everything to get at it........4 hours later I got it off and waiting for a new GM one to show up............Darn........I was all done and now the car is in pieces again.......Gotta push the exhaust appointment back to next week........

Why isn't Concept One overnighting a new thermostat housing to you?

Had another little issue come up......when I did the gas tank revision I didn't think it thru correctly, the stock fuel level sender had the float arm going in to the left.......LOL.....it and the new fuel pump were fighting for the same spot..........I ended up ruining the original sender in modifying it......new one showed up and was modified correctly ..........cut off the pick-up tube that the sender was mounted to and rotated it 180 degrees......and since I am not using the tube anymore we welded it up solid to eliminate any fuel leaks.......installed it and everything works perfectly....Two little issues remain (until I find more).........the intercooler pump doesn't turn on and the fittings I used to connect the intercooler lines to the Supercharger leak.........Always something.........the exhaust will go on this week and I moved the car under it's own power for the first time ........just in and out of the garage.........
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7303.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...5c18d5d303.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7307.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7308.jpg |
Picked up the car today from the exhaust shop........Need to get the A/C lines made and the system charged.........Need to program the module and get the GPS Speedometer dialed in........Then.........Drive it........
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7361.jpg |
What mufflers did you use Ken?
|
As always - nicely done!
|
almost done! So what's next?
|
Got the car back from Frame-up and the A/C system is now complete.......I was going to take the car up to the Dells for the Automotion car show........In checking everything out, it seems the new Intercooler Pump that came with the kit doesn't work...........A new one is coming under Warranty but won't be here in time.........Darn !!!!
|
The learning curve continues..........I didn't take the car to the Automotion show in the Dells as planned because the Intercooler wasn't working........I had the car running for a while and was checking the cooling system with my infrared heat gun........Noticed the intercooler was ambient temp.......Hummm.....Check the intercooler lines and just a gradual heat change Hummm.......I checked the plug and had Power.......Humm.......I added a Reservoir for the coolant that was higher than the Supercharger and it was full.....but there was no movement of coolant when running.........I called Pace Performance (where the system was purchased) and told them the pump wasn't working........They said they would Warranty it and send out a new one.........(paid for in advance till they got the defective one back)........So.....We get back from the Dells and the box was waiting for me.........Beautiful !!!....So......I change out the pump......fill with water again (was surprised there wasn't a lot of coolant leakage from the line from the intercooler).......started the car and the pump ran for about 10 seconds and shut off...........Darn !!!.........Check all the fuses......everything good.....
Hummm!!!!.........Come in the house and do a Internet search about the pump........Found a thread about this exact problem..........Air in the System.......When the pump sees Air it turns off......Hummm....System is full at it's highest point..........Hummm.......Go out and now Focus and this issue...........I ended up putting a "T" fitting from a Radiator flush kit in the upper Intercooler hose....I back filled the Intercooler that I thought was full with 3/4 of a gallon of coolant.....capped it off and it now works perfectly..........Sheesh !!!.......This car stuff is Hard !!!! |
Hard yes, but I just learned something. Thanks for posting.
|
The Hood had a bunch of stone chips on it from a couple years of Power Tours.....And ....everyone knows how that works out.......Now that the big stuff is finished and every time I looked at the car, all I saw was the stone chips.......So.......the car is at Pulera's getting the hood repainted, other little chips touched up.......then a good buffing......Then it's time to put some miles under it's belt......
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7438.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7439.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7440.jpg |
Ken, are you taking the Nomad on Power Tour this year Or one of the others?
|
Quote:
Because they changed the dates this year .........We will miss the Power Tour due to other things going on........First time in 11 years....... |
I'll make it one day........
|
It's been a while , update........Pulera's got the paint mixed and matched.......as long as they got it that close I decided to have them fix the passenger side wheel well area.......there was a spot (very small) where there was a paint adhesion problem (small bubble)......not a rust issue at all....But......Like everything at Pulera's......they don't do anything unless they do it correctly.....so....Before and after pic's............Should get it back next week so I can get some miles on it.......
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7458.jpg After http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7465.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7468.jpg They also repainted the top of the fenders that had a bunch of paint chips that I put in while installing the core support http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7466.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7469.jpg Almost there.......... |
PERFECT!
You so have it going on!! LOL |
From here it looks like a perfect match, they do some nice paint work.
|
Update.........The car is pretty much finished and we have taken it on a couple of short trips to check it out.......A couple of things needing improvement are getting rid of the rear leaf spring choppy ride (to be replaced with a 4 link Coil Over set-up) and the front seat.........We will be getting a split bench contoured foam seat and get it re-upholstered in original material to match......the stock seat is like sitting on a Park bench......LOL........Done but not "Done"......
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7505.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7507.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7526.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...d/IMG_7527.jpg |
Very nice Ken.
I was thinking with real estate it's location, location, location..... with our cars it's refine, refine, refine!! Shawn |
Update.........I ordered a Glide Engineering seat for the car........the stock seat is like sitting on a Park bench..........and after driving coil spring cars for a while, I forgot how bad leaf spring cars ride.........ordered a 4 link Coil-over set-up from RideTech...........which means I also had gas tank clearance issues..........a new Ricks Tank is on its way.......which means I have to remove the spare tire well...........LOL.......it never ends......but....in the end it will be a car with all the creature comforts of the other cars and the drivability to do Road Tours..........The A/C unit cools the car very well..........no Problems at all.....The lower control arm bushings on the front suspension were in pretty bad shape.....so , I bought new upper and lower tubular control arms and they will be installed next week............Never ends.........But.....I know where I want to end up........so......LOL.....
|
The Car is at Frame-Up Wheelworks getting the triangulated 4 Bar set-up installed....along with the new tank and spare Tire storage well mod's.........Here are some pic's of the start of the process....
