Pretty good progress this weekend, passenger side is complete. Spent a fair amount of time doing some clean up of the driver side just to ensure complete symmetry.
Working out the details of the tail lights, location, mounting, etc. |
Damn!! Totally custom, yet totally a Camaro! Love it! Can't wait to see what you are doing for tail lights!

Pretty light progress lately but finally mostly finished the new tail section. Very happy with how it came out. Kept the original lines for the most part, just enhances them a bit to fit with the flared fenders.
Attachment 62756 Attachment 62757 Those aren't real tail lights...just some poster board painted red so I could make sure the placement looks right before drilling the holes. This is basically the stock location...basically. |
Looks great, John. Good job!
|
It looks nice, did you make the cardboard lights bigger then the originals?
|
Metal work looks fantastic. I love your garage setup too!
|
Awesome work man.
Glad I could push a bit :) |

I'll get to Boise soon! LOL
Damn I've been busy this summer -- and just haven't been down there. The car is looking fantastic!! Leaving in the morning to go back to the Mayo Clinic for a few days of procedures. Then I'll have some free time (I hope!). |

As you can imagine, a 5 1/2 hole saw is a monster to hang onto even at low speed. I did weld a 3/16" plate behind the tail panel so the pilot bit had something to guide it.
Attachment 62891 Fab'd up the tail light housings. I couldn't use the factory ones because of all the tail panel modifications and I wanted to slightly adjust their location to fit better with the widened tail. You can't see it in these pics but there is a rubber seal between the tail light lens and the body. Ended up adding about 4 lbs extra to the car but didn't really have a choice, in order to use a rubber seal, the bracket needed to be relatively stout. Had the shapes cut with a plasma table and then drilled the holes, just to help with the the weight. LED lights will mount inside later. |

Looking really good. A mag drill is your friend :).
|
It looks nice with the lights in there, your going to confuse a lot of people wondering what is different. I like it a lot, nice work.

You'll get what I do: My *insert family member here* had a stock one exactly like that.
Yah sure, they did... with a 335" rear tire tucked well outboard of factory... :) Did I miss the tire size on the rim specs? I am on my 3rd Not Your Father's Rootbeer and second cigar. Yeehaw! Oh, please tell me you're running digitails? https://www.facebook.com/pg/BlueRibb...=page_internal |

Started on the rockers. I'm doing everything I can to seal up any access for water to get into the rockers but I did seal the insides of them up just in case. Will put a drain as well.
|
Nice, John. I've been thinking about extending my rockers down to the pinch weld also when I finally get around to doing that work. My rockers need to come off to fix some minor rust issues anyway.

I am waiting for mine to come back from forming... my rockers originally had a chrome panel, so I am doing that in CF and dropping it down to the pinch and including a flare for the rear tires... so they don't look so much like a "dually" with a 345 on the back...
One of my customers calls hers the "dually". :snapout: |
Awesome build and skills.
No matter what you do the rocker will not be totally sealed and moisture will accumulate. A couple of drain holes would be a good idea so that moisture can escape. Don |

Combined the install of a 2.5 gallon oil tank with finishing the fab of the extended rocker panel. Thanks to many here...Steve, JJ, Tim McGilton and others for the concept and advice!
Attachment 64069 Used a 1" tube through the rocker to provide access for a bolt to attach the front fender. Even though I've done everything I can to eliminate any water from getting down here, I still prepped the metal to withstand the elements. Attachment 64070 These access holes will be covered by a splitter...coming later. Attachment 64071 Attachment 64072 Had to push the tank into the interior just a bit. Attachment 64073 Attachment 64074 Attachment 64075 Sealed off the rocker. Attachment 64076 Sealed off the interior. Attachment 64077 Will have to relocate the filler and install a site tube. Prepped for this but will wait until I'm routing the oil lines. Attachment 64078 |
