Firewall and jambs are now in color:

Unmasked and in the shop:

As is the interior:

And the underside:

Masked and ready for paint:

In the booth:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...pained%201.jpg

We used a thinned rock gaurd on the underside which is why there is some texture there. In person it is very subtle but in pictures it seems to catch the light and look more obvious than it is.

And in the shop:

It reallt changes color depending on the light.

I'll give you a shout next time I know that we'll be on the car. Work (and the weather lately) have been taking a bite out of fun time and my schedule has been less than predictable over the last week or so.

While we are working on some details on the body I started plumbing the oil system on the LS7 over the weekend:

The braided line and fittings are all from Earls.

Test fitting the HREs one last time before mounting the R888s:

James this has got to be one of my most favorite Camaro builds ever.

Your atention to detail is fantastic.

Orng Crsh 04-27-2008 08:50 AM

The car looks incredible! I can't wait to see it completed. What color did you paint the frame? Thanks.

James OLC 05-08-2008 08:55 PM

Thanks guys - I appreciate the kind words.

It seems like it's been a slow week but we've been making progress although much of it is slow and tedious.

We wet sanded and polished the firewall:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...4%20polish.jpg

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...20polished.jpg

We got our increadible Rick's Stainless tank prepped for intallation:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/ricks4.jpg

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/ricks5.jpg

we'll get it installed tomorrow along with the Lateral Dynamics 3-link.

syborg tt 05-08-2008 09:01 PM

Incredible car

James OLC 05-08-2008 09:05 PM

At the same time the Dynamat was going down on the interior:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/dmat%202.jpg

James OLC 05-08-2008 09:06 PM

And the firewall assembly started, with the Tilton 900-Series pedal assembly going in first:

James OLC 05-08-2008 09:10 PM

Leaving us here:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/may7b.jpg

We'll assmemble the clutch tomorrow and get thre transmission mated to the engine for the final time abd, with any luck, we'll get the subframe mated to the rest of the car.

monza 05-08-2008 09:36 PM

Outstanding as always.

James OLC 05-12-2008 06:29 PM

Our McLeod RST Street Twin clutch arrived so we took the opportunity to assemble it and install the Rockland Standard "Son of Tranzilla" T-56 using ATS's T-56 crossmember.

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...0%20clutch.jpg

If anyone is interested, I posted the installation step-by-step here: Installation Thread

James OLC 05-31-2008 06:17 PM

It's been a slow two weeks between holidays and an unfortunate delay at the coaters but I'm back on it now. We got the headers ceramic coated and installed now. I love the headers from this point of view - you never really get to see it and it really gives you an idea how much beef the ATS headers have:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...ehind%201a.jpg

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...behind%202.jpg

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...behind%203.jpg

Once we shuffle some things around in the shop we'll drop the body on and, if the center section arrives, we'll have the car on the ground by the end of the week.

Lenie 05-31-2008 10:15 PM

James, projects going great. Love the brake set up on the firewall. Reminds me of Travis B's camaro set up. Real clean look. I would have done it this same way if I had the Know how but gotta draw the budget line somewhere:mad: Thanks for the pictures.

Jr 06-02-2008 09:04 AM

This car is really coming together...just awesome. Why did you go with the ricks tank? Are you going to put the gas tank in a cage? For example: Steve's 68 or vins 68...I was just curious

Sometimes the progress is slow but thanks for the compliment, they are always appreciated.

I went with the tank from (Rick's Stainless because it met all of the projects needs at this point in it's "life":
  • It has a killer Kinsler spec Bosch fuel pump mounted internally
  • Supply and return line plumbing is all AN right off the bat
  • It is clearanced on the forward end for the exhaust
  • It fits in the original space and configuration
  • Fit, finish and quality is absolutely second to none
not to mention the fact that Rick and Hector and everyone at the shop are great to work with and always have a minute to answer questions and work through problems. None of the other fuel tank or cell vendors that I have used in the past had (IMHO) anything close to the Rick's tank so it was an easy decision in the end.

The Rick's tank does not require additional bracing or a cage; it uses two stainless straps and is mounted just like a factory tank. If we make a modification to the fuel system in the future for some regulatory reason then we would look to a slightly less (but still basically) stock layout.

Not to mention the fact you need the trunk space to haul stuff for One Lap, correct?

Amazing car.

Steve1968LS2 06-03-2008 07:59 AM

Bring it down to SoCal and we will track test it and do a full photoshoot/story..

Deal? :)

Would be interesting to see how she does in the skidpad, cones and braking...

Thanks.

Trunk and storage space is definately a prime consideration for the One Lap. LOL - most of yesterday was spent considering if/how to incorporate a trailer hitch...

You got it Steve. Our intention is to shake it down in that general neighborhood later in the summer - hopefully you will have Penny perfected by then and you can lead us in the right direction.

Is that a challenge???

Let me know when you want to come down here and we will book the track area we use and set up the photoshoot. :)

It wasn't intended as such (I think I've got my hands full with Dave and FUeL here at home as is) but I would definately be fun...

I was really hoping to steal your notes on the 3-link so you can save me three sets of springs and an excedrin headache.

We'll stay in touch and as plans come together we'll definately set things up. Besides, I have some stuff to send your way in the next week or two anyway (Mr. McBride's time permitting).

JohnC 06-03-2008 12:28 PM

Great job--looks amazing!

Rokcrln 06-03-2008 01:10 PM

You guys are doing an outstanding job on this car. After reading the entire build over the last hour or so I have one question/request. Do you have any more pics or info on the firewall forward bracing that extends to the front of the subframe? What I am interested in is the attachment point between the two. It looks like it is a socket type fit for 1pc strengh in a 2pc set up. Did you make those or are they available from ??

Thanks for your time to answer everyones questions as well as document this al for us.

Thanks Kevin - the project has been a lot of fun and sometimes takes on a life of it's own (case in point, Chris is still at the shop working on the rear close out pan right now). I sometimes think that I document everything as much for me as for the community - looking through this thread and my other files it's amazing how far the car has come.

The firewall to sub bars were built in house. The ends consist of a pair (male and female for lack of a better term) that we machined thanks to the always amazing Matt. I have had a couple of other people ask about them and we are looking to do a short production run of them in the next little while if there is sufficient interest.

A couple of machining pics for now - I'll add some assembly pics later in the week when we mate the two halves.

You definately have a full plate my friend. I wanted to talk to you about your track day at Race City sometime soon, I'll shoot you an email in the next couple of days. 'Till then take it easy.
