More Wiring!

Well, I said I thought I had a wire in the wrong place. Turns out you have to program the Alarm before things will work. :eek Seems that the Bluetooth for the Phone to hook up through the radio has a similar requirement for pairing. ha ha

So I finished all the wiring except for: the radiator fans, alarm wiring to flash the lights, PW & P door lock have yet to be installed (but the wiring is in the doors), wiring up the amp (all wires have been run to where it will be) and that's it. Never been so sore in my life. I'm an old codger.

I rewired some of the front lights because I did not like how I wired them previously. Lights are not on all the time now, only when the switch is pulled.

EFI is completely wired. It also controls the electronic Fuel pump (6 sec prime, then waits for start). MSD coil and ignition is installed and wired. And if you think that is a big gap between the coil and ingnition, that is because something goes between them - the air intake from the drivers side fender.

I had to turn the TCP cross-link bar around. It was putting the inner links too close to the headers. That is what TCP suggested that I do.

Power Door Locks, Latches, Etc

I lifted the engine about 1" and moved it back about 1/2". That cleared all but one header bolt. It cleared the R&P problem.

Figured out the problem with the trans. Out it comes and a new smaller piston will be used in the Hydraulic throwout bearing.

Started working on the doors. I am replacing most everything, so this will be a NEW car when I get finsihed. I installed the power door locks, new door latches, strikers, lock rods, door lock pull ups, and chrome rings, interior door handle shafts, door handles, and door courtesy lights. Missing one door handle, and the anti rattle piece that goes on the driver side door handle to latch rod, that screws to the inside of the door and keeps the rod from rattling. I don't know if they sell that piece.

Lowered The Seat Pans

No picture, but I lowered the seat pans. Those Shelby Signature seats sit too high IMO. A lot of work, but I would notice it everytime I got in the car if I didn't do it!

The devil is in the details!!

Sound & Heat Control

You know you are getting close when this starts happening. Noise, vibration & heat control by Quiet Ride Solutions. It is a 2 stage project. Sound control by Dynamat. And then pre-cut heat control mats by Heat Shield.

Many pieces in tight places like above the fender wells inside the rear fenders. It takes a lot of time to do it right. But should be worth the effort.

Dash Is Done

The dash is all buttoned up except for the glove box. It will stay off until I start the hookup of the FAST EFI. One plug at a time.

All the sound and heat control is done. Looks like some of NASA's guys have been working on it.

OK, the thread is up to date. I need to get the headliner installed. Someone said "use a proffessional". How hard is it really?

Awesome build, I love Mustangs

Are you doing the work yourself or is a shop? The reason I ask is at times you post you are going to visit the shop. If you are doing it yourself, damn you do an awesome job (and really fast to boot).

Thanks! I love the 67 Mustang Body style and any year Boss!

I have done all the work myself except for final body work & paint, and the engine build. I have done some of both before, but I chose to use professionals. The shop I went to was the body shop. I had it shipped 250 miles to one guy that restores Shelby Mustangs. I knew he would do it correctly. And he did!

The rest I have done by myself. I have had the car since Mar 06. Been at the body shop from Nov 1st 2006 till Apr 20th 2007.

30 days since I got it back from the body shop and I may start the engine tonight!

headliner in a mustang isnt bad, but the roll bar might present a minor PITA... after looking at the header install pics... i have no doubt you can do it:thumbsup:

A friend of mine told me the same thing. "Just use the wind lace around the doors and small pieces in front and back around the glass seams, take your time, use carpet type spray on glue and you can do it."

Thanks for the vote of confidence. :lateral:

Custom built by Shelby for the GT500E Eleanor Mustang. Very hard to find. I don't think you can buy one right now!

Thanks Roger!

I own an Income Tax business like H&R. I have 8 offices. Timed the car to go to the body shop while I had to work. It worked out perfect. Got it back April 20th. A month later and the engine is in.

Hoping to have it on the road in less than 30 days. Anybody know of any good meets/runs to attend? How about the Power Tour? I think it starts before I will be totally finished.

Jay Hilliard 05-27-2007 09:25 AM

SIMPLY AWESOME! You have done a great job on this build. I'm sure you will enjoy every minute you drive this car, knowing you did 90% of the work. UP may be calling you for some advice:D

Drive Train Done

Well, I finished the entire drive train. After taking the trans out, bellhousing off, clutch and pressure plate off, putting the bellhousing and trans back on, and checking for end play (it was fine). Remove the trans and bell housing, putting the clutch and pressure plate back in, bell housing back on, fixing the hydraulic throwout bearing (shorter length piston for clearance) and re-installing the trans, driveshaft, exhaust, etc. It is DONE!!!!!

If I had a radiator I would be driving it around the block (without a windshield) tonight.

Clutch is strong but not too strong. You would get a small workout in Houston traffic, but it is not as bad as the one Super Snake I tried. It pumped up immediately, and stays firm even after sitting.

67SuperSnake 05-29-2007 10:03 PM

Drive Shaft Length

I have question about drive shaft length. My drive shaft goes in to the TKO 600 about 6". I have to pull it back about 2"- 2 1/4" to connect it to the pumpkin leaving about 3 3/4"-4" in the trans. Is that enough, or is that not enough?

67SuperSnake 05-31-2007 08:05 PM

I installed the headliner. A good suggestion is to use the old windlace, cut it in to small 2-3" pieces and use them as a clamp while you glue it in place. Then use the new windlace around the doors when you glue. Do the doors first, then use all the small pieces around the front & back glass area when you glue the headliner there. Leave them on until you install the glass.

I installed the Alpine PDX 4.100 Amp and cleaned up the wiring.

Door Weatherstrip Chrome Installed

I installed the chrome pieces around the door today. You can spend HOURS on this stuff to get it right. After that I installed the chrome piece that holds the weatherstrip. I used some 3M strip calk on the backside where the old cork gasket used to be. Just added two small runners to the chrome piece and then screwed it in place.

Yeah, I spend my down time (recovery for the 50 yr old body) posting, using the Internet for ideas and buying, and reading every body's posts.

I am a car guy if you haven't surmised by now! GM, Ford, Mopar, it doesn't matter. As long as it is American Muscle car era! And even some of the newer cars.

67SuperSnake 06-02-2007 06:21 PM

Rear Seat, Rear Quarters, Carpet & Console

I cut a piece out of the gas tank filler tube at the tank to make it more level, and not want to spit back at you when filling. Permanently mounted the wiring from the EFI to the passenger fender relays in wire loom.

But the big story is I installed the rear inside quarter panels (3 times each to get them right with the roll bar cut out), the rear seats, seat belts, carpet, and console. Carpet is not all the way finished, but is about 80% done (mostly cut, in place, etc. )

I'm not worried about the rear seat wrinkle right now. After it gets out in the heat, if that doesn't do it I might spray a little water on in and rub it in!

Like my Mustang rear seat belts? Also, look at the trim moulding where the roll bar meets the rear inside quarter panels.

Carpet Finished, Overhead Console Installed

I finished the carpet. I have never been so glad that all the back breaking work is about done. I installed the center console for good. Installed the shifter. I had to bolt the bottom shifter bolt from underneath the console (when it was loose). The extra insulation and new carpet makes the installation process a PITA! Kick panels and door sill plates (stainless steel) are done. Well, I have one to go. Seat floor brackets are bolted down. Seat belt bolts were put in before the carpet. It sure makes it easier to find those holes.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...etFinished.jpg

I even installed the overhead console w/map lights! Installing those screws before the headliner made the process a little easier to find.

 One of my favorite cars. It Will look stunning when complete!

Your not pulling our leg are you? It almost seems like this project may already be finished some time ago and you are posting all these pics in the order the car was completed.

That or you are working 24/7 on this thing! Don't you have to work (job) like the rest of the world? Is this your car or a customers?

Take a break please... Staying alive should be your first goal. Whew. I'm wasted from just checking out all the pictures.

Thanks. My favorite, too! ha

I wish it was finished. My hands hurt. I usually work on it one day, and take the next day off, pickup or order parts, then work another 6-8 hours on
it the following day.

Major items left: Front & back glass, door glass, and radiator. Radiator will be a big deal as I am going oversize. Gotta move a lot of things like AC condenser, dryer, hard lines, hood pin brackets, cut a big hole....

67SuperSnake 06-06-2007 11:03 PM

Trunk & Rear Is Finished

Trunk is finished. Trunk weatherstirp is installed. A little video update:

Doors, Windshield, Back Glass & Radiator

Doors are DONE, complete with molding, electric windows, handles, etc, etc. Many hours here. But they sound like a new car when they close:

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2.../Doorsdone.jpg

And the front & rear glass and chrome were installed today!

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...hormeDone1.jpg

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ChormeDone.jpg

Radiator is 31" x 16", dual pass, inlet and outlet on the drivers side, filler neck on the passenger side, dual 13" 1720 CFM fans and shroud:

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...reSupport2.jpg

A big hole here, I will reinforce it with a piece of angle. I had to remove the A/C condenser and the brackets, cut them, move them to the back of the condenser, bend the lines a little, but it all lines up now. More pictures when I get the upper bracket to the radiator welded on. The lower radiator mounts are just 2 pins ( 1/2" ) with a rubber insulator:

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...reSupport1.jpg

I can almost smell the rubber burning down the road!

67SuperSnake 06-14-2007 04:31 PM

Radiator, SPAL Dual Fan Control, Rear Seat Latches

The radiator is installed. Upper radiator hose, dual 1710 fans, SPAL PWM dual fan control (one fan comes on at 50%, up to 100% then the other fan comes on at 100%, A/C will turn the initial one fan on at 100%). All the A/C lines have been installed. Front lower grill has been permanently mounted.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...diatorFans.jpg

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...iatorFans1.jpg

The rear seat latches have been finished. Since I did the mini tub, getting all the little pieces to match up and work properly took half a days work. But they are done!

Roger, if you watch my posts, you will see that I take off about every other day. That is because my back is hurting! ha

But I love to build. And .. no I am not retired, just off for 8 months a year. Lucky... yes. Happy... yes! I will be 50 in Dec. I just want to have it on the road!

I have been turning wrenches since I was 9 yrs old. 1st engine overhaul when I was 12 (64 dodge PU, mostly by myself but with dads help).

Last big restoration was in 1987. Porche 911 Targa (1976). Went from Ice Green to Chevy Red. :lateral:

Interior Update

I have the inside almost done. I didn't take pictures, but all I have to do is vacuum and put in the front seats, front seat belts and glove box. After a radiator hose and a cold air intake, I will be starting this puppy.

67SuperSnake 06-18-2007 12:28 PM

Around the Block

Well, I took her around the block. I have three issues.

1.) Transmission has got to come back out. The input shaft must be hitting the crank, which makes it act like the clutch is not releasing all the way.

2.) Something is rubbing like a rotor against a caliper, or the like. I was so tired I did not lift it to inspect, but will get to it tomorrow.

3.) Running way rich. Now comes the tuning with the laptop.

No fluid leaks, no brake problems, no other issues at this time. Still got to get the alignment, cold air intake and A/C charge.
