Any Real updates on this car????????????

Track Junky 06-06-2012 08:13 AM

For a real update some real work would have to have been done. I doubt it. I think he's still dumpster diving.

Sieg 06-06-2012 08:36 AM

He's busy researching curtains, bathroom accessories, appliance mods, and gardening tools.

I have to ask, after reading this thread again, what exactly are the requirements on this site in order to be selected a Moderator?

The requirement is simple Doug... the ability to turn a blind eye to 99.9% of everything posted.

It's a fair question. And the answer is no. Create a task reminder to check back in 6 months.

Yep, I rode in a couple cars last weekend and realized what I am missin. Plus, it always feels faster when you're not in the drivers seat.

What's downright scary? The picture, or the fact you are now focusing your attention on frying pans instead of oil pans? :_paranoid

The fiance is in charge of that! :woot:

I do enjoy the interior design and furniture selection with her I will admit. :_paranoid

But the car is not dead in the water... I spent an hour yesterday talking to someone about doing a set of flares. :unibrow:

Oh and I am still watching for a dry sump setup.

Nice to see your man enough to admit it. :unibrow: If you show some interest in what she is into then she will find a way to be interested in that SBC.

I bought my dry sump but it didn't make it to Phil while I was gone so I need to call and check on it tomorrow. I guarantee yours will be cheaper than mine.

Flares? Old school SCCA look to match the mouse?

I was thinking about doing a rendering to put my new set of ideas on the canvas, but I found a car I want to emulate so I don't need to spend the money on the rendering I figure.

I want to make the 68 Camaro version of this. Paint my white stripes matte black (and get rid of the little Mustang influence I inherited when I bought this car :D) and rivet on the flares for a racy/industrial look. No flares molded into the body for me. I prefer the color contrast and lower cost. :unibrow:

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...blue_front.jpg

I tried to buy the car but it was only $170k over my budget. Asking $175k.

That De Tomaso is pure awesomeness. I think you're goal is doable considering you're trying to emulate a car with some heavy Ford associations.

Yep that mongoose would have been originally 289 Ford powered. Either that or the racing Pantera is the look you are going for you closet Ford lover.:D

Flash68 06-16-2012 10:34 PM

I love Panteras. Always have. Always have wanted one. There. Ya happy?

Can't you Ford guys just leave me alone?

P.S. I have said for the last year or so if I get a Pantera ever I will drop an SB2 CHEVY motor in it. :unibrow:

Technically a Pantera is not a Ford. It's only powered by one And that can be fixed!

There's my boy to the rescue!

I've only ever seen Panteras with a Ford motor. Usually a Cleveland and occasionally a Windsor. And an LS or 2 I think also...

You're gonna love this... my fiance went to the flea market early this morning and came back with some Mauviel frying and sauce pans. They are awesome pieces but what's great is she got them for about 15 cents on the dollar. Brand new. She is a talented shopper. :unibrow:

Hahaha, so naive you are. Not all good deals just appear. Truly talented shoppers are successful based on sheer persistence, which is great, as long as you aren't being dragged around Hong Kong for the better part of three days looking for an elusive deal on a digital camera. I can't say those are three days of my life I want to get back. Those days grow fonder as the years go by. However, I do wish that my relatives had actually bought a camera at the end of those three days :faint:

I'm sure you'll have some funny stories to share though

I think you missed the part where I stayed home and she goes by herself. :unibrow:

Sounds like you skipped that important part of the HK deal.

Disclaimer: I hit said flea market once every month or 2 with her. I enjoy it. :D

Ron in SoCal 06-17-2012 02:24 PM

They say everything in HK has five prices: Local price -> Chinese -> Japanese -> Korean -> American/Euro tourist. We of course are on the bottom rung... I didn't do too bad but then again I'll never know. Ignorance is bliss...

Oh man and my fiance is Korean so that's not much of an upgrade there. Looks like I'll cross off HK on our travel list.

Ah come on Dave. You gotta stop in HK at least once in your life. I had no idea what I was doing when I went there and it was still fun. If you could find the one corner of Kowloon that sells all the commercial cookware and supplies, I'm sure you be in heaven. Besides, I know your fiance would fair better than all the Japanese, and Ron, especially if Ron's parts buying and selling habits are any indication of his wheeling and dealing skills. And Ron still said he hada good time

I was kidding. We have a trip to Asia planned eventually. I've never been and she has relatives in S Korea still.

Ron probably bought a ton of things and resold them at break even before ending up with his final goodies if I had to guess. :D

"Rainy Day" project is getting similar treatment as I mentioned in our txt last week. Love the look. See how low the car is and how even the tire tuck is. Yup that's it.

We have the same taste.
Do you want to race to the finish (at least a driver state)? I'll build the composite flares for you.:woot:

You're actually already on my list to call about flares as I get further along in this project.... Since CAR is local and already has their 2nd gen flares for sale I am waiting for Kevin there to do a test fit and brainstorm on a 1st gen version.... he has had other inquiries for them as well.

Race? I like it.... long way to the finish though. :unibrow: :willy:
