Curious how they handled it on their end..... Did you get any grief about returning/wanting one that 'fit' better?

No grief on their end, they said they would take a look at the curvature and see what's wrong/right. And they sent me a return label for the glossy trunk.

Musclerodz 08-01-2021 09:12 AM

Do you have a seal in it? It will completely change how it fits.

Update 10/16

WOW, been some time .... I did not like the fit of the Anvil carbon fiber trunk lid so I asked to return it, no questions asked they said issued a RA and I sent it back. It was 3/8 high in the middle and low on the front corners, now to beat on the AMD lid some more

Other than that I have been busy with work ... working on classic cars is cool except some people should not be trying to do their own electric mods or rust repair. I have been working on a 69 VW bus that some ha hoo did the metal/ rust repair and warped every panel that he worked on, grrrrr.... Step away from the welder cuz you are an IDIOT!!!!! Been using my Big Kids sanding blocks to get her straight ... not that there is a straight panel on a VW bus :action-smiley-027:

So I got my inner fender well repainted last weekend and thought something was wrong, it didn't match the other one .... hmmm, I even called the paint jobber and asked about the ratios. Well, come to find out the satin black is mixed 4:1 not 3:1, so I had to respray the inner wheel well today.

Learning a lot at work, been working on a 69 Mustang fastback, 58 Impala, 88 Thunderbird, 76 Bronco, and a 55 Thunderbird. Having a blast, they pay me to work on classic cars ... I learned a lot about the Dakota Digital VHX system installed on the 58 Impala troubleshooting the fuel level sending unit ... pretty cool unit if you follow their directions, lol.

Thanks for looking ... I'll have some pixs next time.

I have just begun the build of my 1967 Camaro and this thread is going to prove to be very helpful. I am doing many of the things that you did. Thanks for showing your work. With the Vintage Air system, is it necessary to weld up the big hole in the firewall where the original heater goes?

That is why we share our progress with the dos and don'ts. I welded a panel where the original heater plate was and covered it with an Al plate w AC inlets.... Finch firewall plate.

Been some time ....

Wow, time has flown by ... here's an update that deserves sharing. Been working in a classic car restoration shop here in Littleton CO and loving my job. Do what you love but call it work is mental happiness. I have been working on all sorts of cars, learning a lot, and always looking for the next challenge ... keeps the mind active and engaged in the task at hand with a goal in mind!

Anyway, FedEx finally delivered my LS 430hp engine and I mounted the Quick Time bell housing and the T56 Magnum ... hoping it would mount into the car but NO .... seems I have the wrong trans tunnel hump from SpeedTech installed in the car. So now I have to remove the cover meant for a T56 and install the hump meant for the Extreme Subframe .... grrrr.

So here's the porn for you visual people ...

That's just some of the cars we get to work on everyday. The VW Bus body work was time consuming, you wouldn't guess that roof is 13' 10" long! The Eleanor was a Holley Sniper install and I got to test drive her ... wow, she'll scoot. Anyway, make the best of everyday and thanks for looking...

Mikael A 04-03-2022 04:59 PM

Congratulations on the job looks like a good time:thumbsup:

Looks like a great place to work!

Glad to get to hear from you, enjoy the job. Nice looking drivetrain.
I like the citrus green second gen.

Sonar Chief 04-03-2022 07:43 PM

It is a great place to work but more importantly it is the people that make a great day possible ... can't ask for more!!

Yeah me too ... it's a full restoration to oem specs, well ... except the perfect body work and two stage paint job cut and buffed to perfection. The owner has had this car since new and wants the new back, willing to oblige, it's a lot of work but also each stage has it's goal of perfection!

syborg tt 04-04-2022 07:02 PM

Looks like some very cool projects.

Yeah most are ... and there are those that come in and you have to fix the horrible work someone else did to the car but attention to detail is like OCD!

Right now I'm lead on a 1970 GTO ... repair and repaint the endura bumper, fit a Dynacorn hood with a functional cowl induction system and align the front end sheet metal. Pretty blue paint but lip stick on a pig is still a PIG!!!!

Sonar Chief 05-30-2022 06:07 PM

Update 5/30

Here's an update in no particular order .... some work pictures, the GTO Dynacorn pos hood made 'mo better, endura bumper cracks fixed and blended the fenders and cleared, wet sanded and buffed to perfection.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/1993/J7BPmj.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/2939/GKZG8k.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/1797/1cgfD4.jpg

I'm wiring the 71 Camaro Z28 now and after all the parts are sanded and buffed it's time to put 'er together!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/4723/bO5YnO.jpg

Then ... 68 Camaro restomod, LS engine T56 and RS chassis. The shop did all the rust repair last year and the customer brought back the car to get fitted and paint! Should be fun :mock:
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/5690/J6rHBW.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/5616/Py4UQR.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/667/fjHyEv.jpg

My Camaro ... working on the tunnel still. Bought a Bowler T56 tunnel cap and been fitting it to my car ... it's close, measure 12 times and cut 2 times. SO, I have it real close but not happy with the width of the front so I'll use the break at work to match the width of the car.
Oh, and the transmission mount that came in the kit was not the correct one ... seems I needed a reduced height mount to lower the tail shaft and get my 2.5 degrees and keep the headers from hitting the floor pan, lol.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/9713/OjA9by.jpg
Mo better!
Ok, back to the tunnel cap ...
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/6615/65SbMz.jpg
Pull the engine and tranny again ...
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/8200/IzCU0t.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/5183/8q356x.jpg
Measured a dozen times and cut twice ... she's close, giving about .75 inch clearance on the transmission. I need to decrease the angle of the sides to get closer to 12" in the front to align better w the car. Then do an angle cut and weld the back to slope into the back.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/8613/NbdIiE.jpg
ARP head studs are the cat's pajamas!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/8521/UlWwI6.jpg

Started collecting some oiling system parts. Improved Racing's 205 thermostat, remote filter and the plumbing. Need to decide on the cooler soon!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/4189/W2Txin.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/1461/5hNBrO.jpg
JUST A COOL PICTURE!!!!

Thanks for looking and remember those that didn't make it back to their family :patriot:

Chief!!

I think I'm having the same problem as you, my aftermarket sub has the motor sitting up too high and too far back, I'm going to set the round stock down in the tube risers which should also move it forward, and then I'm thinking might have to mod trans sheet metal, of course it would be easier to work on if it rolled!!

Sonar Chief 06-19-2022 03:09 PM

update 6/19

Happy Father's Day ... thought I'd update some pictures of my Camaro and some from the place of employment ... they call it work but they pay me to work on classic cars, work????

Been on the 71 Z28 for awhile now, plumbing, electrical, brakes, suspension, transmission, and what ever else she needs. The car was painted on April 19 and this is update ... working on the exhaust system this past week!!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/6296/V28Rth.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/9919/p5mLBj.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/4881/Jdfz1f.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/6571/6eoGmX.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/5003/vySgk2.jpg

Now my Camaro ... cut up the Bowler trans tunnel and welded back with an angle of the dangle to meet up with the back of the tunnel w/o making a center console. Of course there is an access hole cut for future maintenance should the shifter plate need attention :headspin:

Couple hours later....
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/2703/lJmpkK.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/9663/8OkjZ3.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/7650/teel7m.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8499/8YuJoX.jpg

Working on the transition to the firewall section but one day at a time ... thanks for looking!!!

Steve ... I'm not having a problem, just need to clearance the tunnel to fit the larger T56 Magnum. :topic:

Steve68 06-21-2022 03:54 AM

Understand,

I'm having a problem, pretty sure I have the fix, I'll lay it all out and weld it up,
should work great,

Nice Gold resto. great work,

syborg tt 06-21-2022 07:49 AM

Holy cow you are working on some cool stuff I like the progress on your car.
