:D

Why are you making fun of my dainty little hand model fingers. You know how sensitive I am about that. :buttkick:

I've been trying to get some stuff done at the night job. You know all the glamorous stuff everyone who builds one of these cars suffers through.

Puling out the old 390 mock up motor on Thurs. It took me a couple hours mainly because the cherry picker won't fit under the crossmember for some reason. It's like the car sits only 5", or less, off the ground or something crazy like that.:) Just for the heck of it I weighed the car without the motor and trans to get an idea where I was starting. It will be cool to catalogue how the weight keeps adding up as the build progresses.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psa59c4c6a.jpg

That left uncovered a bunch of extra metal that needed to be cut our tonight.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps9ca7e236.jpg

I got all of it but the top of the shock towers with a grinder but luckily I was saved by a skilled guy with a plasma cutter who finished the top of the shock towers off for me or I'd still be there.:faint:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...pscd43e0b8.jpg

I got some help from a couple of young eager aspiring car builders to start stripping and cleaning the interior out. Man I'm glad they were around. It had gotten a little crusty from me letting it sit.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps3f411ba2.jpg

Another couple of crappy days of cutting and cleaning and then it's on to the fun stuff.

Congrats on the progress Rob, that's got to feel good. Nice to have some help with that stuff as well.

That's a nice tunnel hump Rob, did RS make that?

I had to make my own for my TKO, Torino swap, it isn't as pretty...

214Chevy 10-12-2013 02:46 PM

Yes RS made the hump.

Joe quit holding out :twak: let's see some pictures of that Torino :D

Marcus

The floors up to the bead roll portion are aftermarket replacement pieces then RS formed the hump and driveshaft tunnel. Let's see some updates on your Chevelle thread.

Is that a PINK cherry picker??

Can I buy that from you for Baby Georgia Anne?

Now that you've taken something apart..... it'll be quite awhile before you'll have a need for it to put anything back together.

Looking good Rob, what's the plans for the dash. Are you going to use that stock dashpad frame to build something custom?

Sure looks pink to me. It's not mine but as they say Anything is for sale for the right price.

If by quite a while you mean I won't need the engine hoist before SEMA you may be wrong.:popcorn2:

Gary you are correct. Brett pointed out to me that the metal shell from the stock dash should save some fab time.

Somebody was making a mess in the shop. Rumor has it, that he likes to cut other peoples stuff up.

Everyone seemed to like that trans tunnel RS did.

So I cut part of it out.:slingshot:

Time to get yer scales cali-brated.

GregWeld 10-26-2013 10:31 PM

I'd just wedge section the entire car right down the middle - take about 6 inches out of it -- then whack it door to door about a foot….

Or you could just buy a '69 Camaro.

I know it hurts you to read it but the scale is right. You better get used to being disappointed by the lack of big numbers:mock:

The two drop tops I owned had cowl shake so bad you'd loose the steering wheel if not held tightly with both hands….

The Z/28 Coupes I owned were all the "matching numbers" variety so they're "untouchable"…. and that whole thing gets real boring real fast unless you can afford to own the uber versions…

I'm a fan of cheap cars I can just beat on - drive - and move on when I'm ready. Oh - except if there's a "30" in the year -- then I want ultra expensive kit cars that I can sell for 35K or so when I'm done with 'em.

Yep.

The stand the motor is on is probably 15 so subtract that to get 360lbs starting weight.

The Findanza flywheel is 14lbs
My CVR waterpump is 5.8 lbs and the adapters are another 3.
My 3G alt is 15.4 lbs
RST clutch and pressure plate are 22.5lbs.
PS pump I'm not sure but maybe 15lbs.
Holley carb 13 lbs

Most the oil is back in the tank.

That's 82 lbs + maybe another 5 to 7 for the AL brackets.

So it should be right about 450 or a little less.

Need to add headers though they might as well count as part of the motor.

DOOM 10-27-2013 06:16 AM

BB's forever Rob! They have no idea!:Tomcat:

TAC 10-27-2013 08:52 PM

Rob, that's impressive. I never would have thought the engine would be that low weight, even with all the alum..
I have a few small parts for the dash if you need something. I won't be using on my car. Let me know what you may need, free to good home.
I also have a few exterior parts.

Vince@Meanstreets 10-27-2013 09:22 PM

what did that bellhousing weigh? not too shabby. Tell Brett he should put you on payroll. :rules:
