When I took the car apart (both times) I bag / blue tape the parts and take pictures so when I start putting the car back together I can go back and look at my pictures on the day I took the car apart. It helps jog my memory as it pretty much sucks since Chemo back in 2012. |
Vintage Air Coolant Lines (( 03-14-21 ))
Finally finishing up the Vintage Air heat lines.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8a1dd30-me.jpg Yes something is really really wrong with me http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e0b1cf0-me.jpg For mock up I am using this plastic reducer. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a7b88f3-me.jpg I can't wait till I don't have to touch this valve again. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...dd720f2-me.jpg |
Vintage Air Firewall Fitting (03-13-21)
I missed this one so I am going back to it.
Here is the ground stud that I will be using on the passenger side of the car. It goes directly to the battery and it will be also be a brass bolt. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...34aa7cc-me.jpg Firewall fitting test fitted it one last time before I permatex it to the firewall. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5cd270f-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4ae8558-me.jpg Way back somewhere in this thread I put the part number for the machine washers that I am using on the inside of the firewall. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0d1d300-me.jpg All glued in and nice and tight. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d806b0f-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...046969b-me.jpg |
Upper Radiator Mounting Hardware (03-15-21 )
Headed back to Ace Hardware for the tenth time this week.

DEI Heat Sleeve on Transmission Lines ( 03-20-21 )
Since the transmission lines are close to the downpipe on the header I decided to wrap the lines in DEI Heat Sleeve.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6d27ba6-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c59c017-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...99f986c-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c805a42-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...dc1ec78-me.jpg Looking at these hard lines I now know that I am going to have to paint them. Just one more thing to add to the never ending to do list. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...1d325b3-me.jpg |
Drivers Side Hinge - Ugh (03-21-21)
So this side didn't go as smoothly as the passenger side.
This tool is a life saver. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...fa6ec6d-me.png Hinge is off and reference marks are set. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...dd7c2da-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ce8cbb0-me.jpg This side was not fun. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...46643ba-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...432a0f9-me.jpg Both hinges are installed and lets just say the door is way off and I needed a break. I needed something easy to do I made an AC line. (03-22-21)
Since yesterday didn't go so well I decided to make an AC Line.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...798e97e-me.jpg I plan to crimp the fitting in the engine bay once I have all of the lines in the car. |
Notch-Head Brake Line Clips (03-31-21)
Time to installed the Notch-Head line clamps. Drilling the hole in the frame with the itty-bitty drill bit is very very scary.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f414296-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b592118-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...dc5ac50-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...21d9d16-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b0f4acf-me.jpg |
Misc Blue Tape Notes
So I started making notes on the car for things I need to address.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...053409b-me.jpg I also need to plug this holes since I am planning on using the Wildwood electric parking brake calipers. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...293a8c8-me.jpg I will be using this wire when I install the Fessler RS light in the RS modified upper valance. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...25b8320-me.jpg I also need to extend the line as my goal is to hide/clean up as much as of the wiring I can behind the grill. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...97afc2b-me.jpg |
Finishing Up the Notchead installation (04-04-21 )
In order for me to finish the last couple holes I need a right hand drive drill and it is also nice to have an excuse to buy new tools.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0c615aa-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b0f4acf-me.jpg I decided to install "Hot Rod Sleeve" on the drivers side brake line. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0dc6037-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e8810f8-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3cbb5ff-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0d4a772-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c8993d9-me.jpg Okay I was hungry so I ran inside and made myself a health breakfast. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6cd3bfa-me.jpg I also gave Tobin a call at Kore3 to order new flex lines. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9ea4eb3-me.jpg |
Holley EFI Wiring (04-07-21)
Jumping back on the Holley EFI Wiring.
What is that song ??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9lh7lqZojc Wire Wire Everywhere a Wire, Messing up the scenery, losing my mind. So my goal is to make all of this look as clean as possible and work. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4d78944-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8a87b71-me.jpg More notes http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...847296f-me.jpg As you all know I am fairly organized and since my memory sucks (chemo-brain) I have a binder for instructions and another for all of my To Do Lists. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0694c2d-me.jpg I love my blue tape. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...858098f-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9429705-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...af526c1-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...aa608b7-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...11dddcf-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2d7bb52-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a0db027-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...aa46ddd-me.jpg I've learned that is you write the not immediately and put it in the place that it needs to be there is a good chance you won't forget the task and get burned later. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...73d6bdc-me.jpg I will be installing Tessa tape on both sides of this line clamp to stabilize the line so it doesn't move back and forth and pinch the fuel pump fuse. The Holley ECU has a direct power for the fuel pump which is very nice. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...71abef5-me.jpg It's a cute little wire. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5b49358-me.jpg Good news I just so happen to have a green 14 gauge wire in my box. (Note this wire was not to spec and I ended up using this wire to trigger a relay.) http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8179310-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0178ed8-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ee62c85-me.jpg Of course I labeled it under the dash and in the trunk. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c9f8914-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...66ad228-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...357c7ad-me.jpg |
Making A/C Lines (04-10-21)

Holley EFI Wiring Underhood Wiring (04-10-21)
My goal is to make everything look as factory as possible. However, I want it to look clean and easy-ish to service.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...054bd22-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2a9fb44-me.jpg I just don't like the look this area of the Holley Harness. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...47ba0cd-me.jpg One more note on the firewall to remind me drill yet another hole in the firewall. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...740f599-me.jpg I rewrapped the harness with tessa tape near the firewall. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cc31b44-me.jpg I started running the wires to all the proper locations. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f10dc70-me.jpg Moving on to the starter. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5f3d483-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e3ca9b5-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...88abab2-me.jpg |
Still not happy with the Intake wiring. (04-11-21)
Yep, I just don't like it.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e91cd27-me.jpg Yep, the loom is coming apart again. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...93302ad-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4b51ece-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...521ff56-me.jpg I think it looks a little better. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f4c30ab-me.jpg So if you are using the Tech-Flex wire loom this is the best tool for cutting it without it fraying. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...fc7d2c2-me.png http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2989f60-me.jpg |
Battery Kill Switch (04-11-21)
Mike came over to help with battery kill switch.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2015646-me.jpg Mike has this really cool crimping tool for the battery wire. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ab2e013-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ad8fa71-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...80eb175-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4bc37a4-me.jpg We also made the alternator charge wire. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cb9b739-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...c736066-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...bca2698-me.jpg I put a little bit of Heat Sleeve on the wire. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9bda8d5-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2c2847a-me.jpg |
Back on the Holley EFI Wiring (04-18-21)
Ugh
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0ea3974-me.jpg I started pulling the wire out that need to go their final home. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b9024f7-me.jpg Installed the tech flex sleeve over the wire and ran it over to it's new home. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ba57c19-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b0c5a9f-me.jpg I also just put a label tag on the wire looms which I plan to leave since they are under the dash. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0ed28d6-me.jpg Yet another reference pictures http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2dfe857-me.jpg Remember the Tessa Tape note well I finally applied the tape. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b05e6b5-me.jpg Well, It looks like I have to find the manual for the vintage air unit as I have no clue where the Gray wire goes. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...96b856f-me.jpg |

Thank you Don, I’m having fun and learning a bunch along the way. It’s awesome having a great group of friends that share their knowledge which has allowed me to be able to do what I’m doing. Yesterday I was at friends high end Porsche / Supercar race shop and unfortunately it gave me a few more ideas. (Not Good) I am going to incorporate the door handles into my interior. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7e60ae7957.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3cd996a3cb.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6c11233a05.jpg And the machine work on these wheels is incredible. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0ba9a75736.jpg I also couldn’t stop looking at this beast. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...522ee2ae05.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Looks like you are hitting it hard Marty.:gitrdun:
I'm about to do my Torino hinges and not looking forward to it. |

On a side note make sure you do the top hinge first. I learned that the hard way when I went over to the drivers side. What I should have done was replace the bushing on the top and check the door alignment and I needed to re-adjust this is when you do it. I did the bottom first on the drivers side and well it went south really fast or closer to the earth. So far south I couldn't even shut the door. I eventually walked away and called Larry (Body Guy) and he laughed at me and said well son you screwed up. Replace the top, gently try to close the door and if doesn't line up lift up or lower the door and try to get it the top hinge set. Then you do the bottom hinge and it will be much easier. Lesson Learned !!!! |
Mindless projects are sometimes needed (04-18-21)
I wanted and needed something mindless so I decided I would silicone the defrost vents to the underside of the dash. Hopefully I won't regret this.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0581932-me.jpg I think my note told me to do it. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...342ed0e-me.jpg It must have also told me to take this picture. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7b396da-me.jpg Back in February my best animal friend Shadow passed away unexpectedly. It was awful and heartbreaking. Shadow was born on the day I started chemo so we had a very special bond. I always felt that we were going to live out the rest of our lives together. Unfortunately, God had a different plans for us. I am sorry to say there will be no new pictures of Shadow (crying while I type this) just old ones. Adjusting to life without a dog was just not going to good and my wife forced me to look at puppy's. I was so hard as Shadow used to go everywhere with me including work. He even went with me to my customers. Everyone loved him. A couple months later my wife found another Yorkie-Pom breeder near Indy and she put a deposit on one of the two males. We finally picked him up mid April and it has been very nice having him in the house. However, the last 6 months with him has reminded me why you have kids when your young as a puppy's doesn't sleep when you sleep and how can something 2.5lbs poop so much. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...214c573-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5cee672-me.jpg We also bought him and Octagon also know as Fight Club so he will be safe with me in the garage. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f170eac-me.jpg |
Still wiring things (04-25-21)
Back to the inside of the car I started working on the DSE Wiper wiring.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7ae772b-me.jpg Instead of removing some of the original wire from the factory harness I heat shrink'd the ends and gave them a new home. You just never know when you might need extra wires. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5c769d8-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cc39287-me.jpg I finally feel like I won't be running anymore wires down the drivers side so I wrapped the wires in tech-flex wrap. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e44c2b3-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...da76a8d-me.jpg Breaking Remy in right away. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...999d686-me.jpg I also started a Re-Do bucket just to see how much tape I take off and of various stuff. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a990a4c-me.jpg |
ECU mounting & Holley Dash (05-01-21)
Getting closer to final mock up of the ECU wiring
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...be6f297-me.jpg I started searching for the bracket that hangs the vintage air unit and I can't seem to find it. I called my Powder Coater to see if he remembers powder coating the bracket and he laughed as he powders so much stuff that there is now way he could remember. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a2ce7f3-me.jpg After 90 minutes of searching I finally found the bracket as it was right where I put it last. (insert sarcasm here). http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...375cb8b-me.jpg Installed it and mounted the ECU bracket which I made a long time ago. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4146269-me.jpg I mounted the ECU and started plugging everything in so I could start routing the wires for the digital dash. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...31ba1a6-me.jpg As much as I love the Autometer dash that was in the car I really really wanted the Holley digital dash. So I pulled trigger and bought the dash. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4f07f94-me.jpg He's getting bigger well not really. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...01d4c03-me.jpg More notes. Apparently the trans ''Trigger" can't be connected to the same trigger as the ECU. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...73e4252-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b0e7094-me.jpg Test fitting everything and so far it looks like everything is going to fit as planned. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4165306-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...1979b1f-me.jpg I also made a perm-a-note that the nuts on the small weld studs are 11/32 of an inch. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...257de2b-me.jpg Since I use these so much in the car I put tape on them so I can find them quickly in my toolbox. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3675e05-me.jpg Calling it a night. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d7d4729-me.jpg |
Mounted the Fan & Fan Shroud ( 05-02-21 )
My goal was to work on the fan relay and well at least installed the radiator, shroud and fan. At some point I need to bring the radiator and the shroud over to Mario to have him paint it.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...dad5311-me.jpg As some of you know I try to be organized and sometimes thing get out of control. So i stopped what I was doing and spent the next couple hours organizing everything. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...22500bb-me.jpg Token Remy Picture http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...894196d-me.jpg He finally got bored watching me and took a nap. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...038a6b2-me.jpg All better. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9ad0bdf-me.jpg todays notes http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...38a090d-me.jpg |

Fan Relay 05-15-21
I removed the old wiring for the fan and installed a painless relay set up. Eventually this will come out and I will install the PWM setup.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5f0e5b8-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4a62d64-me.jpg I need to figure out the location for the relay. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d91c3fe-me.jpg This looks like the perfect location. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...abe2efb-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...4cf72e4-me.jpg The black screw is the ground stud. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2fab0ac-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...44602a6-me.jpg Wiring is all hidden nicely behind the battery http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...171d55e-me.jpg Remy Picture http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...065faad-me.jpg Routing the wires over to the fan where I will install a weather pack connector. |

I really really thought the car would make it out this year (05-17-21)
So my plan was to have the car completed for the Hot Rod Power Tour.
However, that didn't happen but the good news is I did buy the tires and plan to have them mounted soon. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7dc4516-me.jpg Jumping back on the brakes or should I say "Circling Back". I needed to stop this bracket from twisting when I turn the wheel http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6593733-me.jpg Step One - Dill second hole in the bracket. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f2832a8-me.jpg Step Two - Tap said hole. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...49fc8e7-me.jpg Step Three - Drill second hole in frame. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b4d6590-me.jpg Step Four - Mount bracket using the ARP bolt and then thread in the smaller bolt so it acts like a stud in the bracket. That way if the small bolt breaks all I have to do is replace it. I also don't have to worry about breaking a small tap in the frame as I have done that some many times in the past that I no longer trust myself. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...170e170-me.jpg Step Five - Rinse and Repeat on the Drivers Side http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...af2fdb4-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8f47f3b-me.jpg Yahoo I get to use my Right Hand Drill http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...fdc2d60-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b0752ad-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b6e2bf4-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f8e0750-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f42e596-me.jpg |
Adding a Weather-Pack to the Fan (05-23-21)
Upgrading the wire connectors to a weather-pack connector.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2436912-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f3efe44-me.jpg I started using a X-Acto hot knife to cut the Tech-Flex wire sleeve. It works good and if you accidently cut yourself it also singes your skin so you don't have to worry about bleeding or needing a band-aid. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...94641b0-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...9f3586d-me.jpg |

I've followed along at times and used some of your wiring techniques which has helped me, thanks for that. For my fan relays I decided to put them into a enclosure to protect from the elements just in case. One like this that fits both.
https://secure.sayal.com/STORE2/View_SHOP.php?SKU=14898 Then decided to grab this one of which I'll alter to fit down the road. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07...0?ie=UTF8&th=1 Also fabbed up a panel into the front fender area so that I wouldn't clutter up the battery area with a bunch of wires. Also used 2 battery terminal blocks as extended power points. Rivnut tool came in handy here! |

Hi Simon,
Thank you Thank you Looking back I should have used the waterproof relay, which means I will most likely order the waterproof relay kit and redo this next week unless Amazon can get it to me tomorrow. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/prf-30130 Quote:
