Nice project!
It bothers me, however, that both shock tops broke off like that.... and I wouldn't sleep well until I discovered what was putting that kind of bind (or whatever) on them to make that happen. My radar would be up that something else in the car was moving around and trying to make the shocks act as some kind of rear end locator.... |
yeah it bothers me too. I did spin off the track and came back on it sideways with both rear wheels and it took a pretty good hit, I'm about 90% sure that's when the broke. I came in after that and didn't run again. I noticed they where broke when I loaded it on the trailer. I was hard to tell because they still looked intact because the weight was holding everything together still. I've taken the new setup through full ranges of motion and every scenario I can think of and it looks solid.

Ah ha!! Yeah -- that could certainly explain the issue!! I cut a Hoosier doing that once.... a spin with only the back two going off a little and coming back on. There's a LOT of sideways pressure going on there that the car doesn't like!! LOL

Very cool inboard setup

Almost got the Inboard setup done, the disaster struck. Some low life decided to steal my welder! mostly my fault for leaving it outside by my workbench, still hidden from street view but someone must have been staking it out. Lock your stuff up fellas, I made a mistake and now my welder is gone. Anyway, while I'm dealing with the police, here is the progress pics that I have up until now.
Relief pockets in the frame all done. http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...pslubthucr.jpg Not a bad weld not having any practice in a while... http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...pspcjdhvz2.jpg While I was at it, I decided to add a little bling to the trunk... http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...psvb1zoio5.jpg Bigger things are coming for next year! http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...psgfrl2sit.jpg Couldn't find a 6.2 block on the cheap but... http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...psxruvcuqi.jpg |
All finished up! well almost. I still need to make some covers for inside the wheel well to try and keep most stuff out of the trunk from the pushrod reliefs. Got it back on the ground after Christmas and was able to drive to our local Cars and Coffee Jan 2nd. Everything worked perfectly, its actually smoother and quieter than the previous setup! Its really hard to keep my focus on the road instead of watching it all work through the trunk in my rear view mirror! I haven't beat on it hard yet, but I did take it through its paces on a really rough road.

Nice! Next time I'm out your way I need to see this in person. Maybe a hot lap around the block to.
:D |
Sure! I have a passenger seat with a 6point harness and a favorite on ramp!

I can't remember. What was the reason for the inboard pushrod setup? Are you able to fit longer shocks now?
