GAE Yes I did a bunch of reading on the pros and cons of swing vs floor pedals after mocking up my Kirkey in the car. Then  I remembered how natural my Kart pedals felt with the seat being the low point. Duh, I should have already known that floor mounts would be the way to go. Quote:

Rob, the pedals look awesome! Now get them installed....:popcorn2:

You didn't expect a technical discussion with this crowd on this thread did you:headscratch: Great seeing you at the Lat G party and at Optima. Sorry I missed Phx. Time for some brake tech:topic: Previously on the forum you had run some brake calculations for me that are now slightly out the window. As I progressed on my engine setback project I abandoned my swing pedals and dual master setup. Buried a few post back under the ribbing you can see I posted about it. I purchased a set of floor pedals but as with all floor pedals their ratio is limited. They are 5.75 to 1 at best so using the 100lbs std driver force there is an obvious loss in clamping force. My floor pedals have a .875 and .813 master cylinders. Intuitively I would think with the lower pedal ratio of 5.75 maybe I should be running the .813 master for the front and a .750 for the rear to raise the line pressure and achieve a total braking force closer to 4000. I also understand we could achieve more braking force through the use of a higher COF pad. Intuitively doesn't make for much of a scientific discussion so plugging in the master sizes and new pedal ratio into your chart would be the best starting point for a discussion. I also understand that setting my overall suspension parameters, either tweener or high travel, will also dictate what brake bias 65/35 or 70/30 we are targeting. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psb19ff07b.jpg https://lateral-g.net/forums/show...1&postcount=18 |
Just to be sure Rob -- smaller bore MC makes MORE pressure not less -- so if you're going to want more front brake pressure (correct) than at the rears -- you'd want the smaller dia MC for the front brakes.
A larger MC bore will give "better" pedal feel but will make less pressure… sometimes this stuff comes down to driver preference - a modulated softer pedal feel vs a high hard pedal. |

For about 12 grand you can buy one of those and get a tube chassis track machine tossed in!! |

Well I don't recall the pic of that Torino article from 1950, so at least that's something new. :D

That's new.:mock: http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps6c5c1566.jpg |
That took 20 minutes? (Prob took 20 minutes to get the cat to pose)
Wait, lemme start over: You're posting a cardboard update? Where's Gordon!  |

Looking good! Definitely like the setup. I'll assume there enough forward/aft adjustment to comfortably modulate the throttle under braking?
Rob Box FTW! |

I don't think the cat likes the "go" pedal...... :stirthepot: :mock: |
Nice photobomb! :)
So you will hopefully get a laugh out of this, but... I'm starting a new design project at work. In my field, we use some kind of theme when we name our projects. My company founder is from Detroit, so he thought a car-based theme would be fun, and I decided we'd go with old musclecar names. We recently changed the plan for the project to go away from a minimalist approach to one that is a bit more, shall I say, "maximalist". So it seemed like a perfect choice to use "Torino" as my first project name in the famliy! :) I spend entirely too much time on this site apparently... |

Are you going to use the linkage and bellcrank from the picture above? Looks pretty slick, but I'm curious how you will mount it all if so... |
Quote:
The Joes pedal is pretty slick. It has adjustable stops in both directions and a garage door spring to snap it back. Of course the carb side of the equation will also get a Joes return spring setup. Quote:

Yes  I am planning on using the bellcrank assembly. I will have a full cage and an underdash bar so the bellcrank will likely mount to a flange on the underdash bar. |
We'll you certainly aren't going to be running out of real estate... So mount away there big boy! Ya got enough room in there to run a similar crank and whistles and knobs set up as used by the wizard in The Wizard of OZ...

It's all Torino and 360 some pounds of sideoiler. :D You either have one or aren't willing to admit you want one.:lmao:

Torino Build
Rob,
Met you Gw and few others at Sema... Black Pantera guy... We briefly talked about your Torino and I had no idea how many mods you have made to this car.. great build Not sure how you even got this far with all the comments you get from the peanut gallery.. I have been reading for several days just to get caught up with you guys.. my wife was wondering what the hell I have been doing.. I kept telling her car stuff and she kept say yeah yeah Keep at it and I hope to see it running soon although I am not getting any younger so please hurry I have to get back to my Firebird project that eats drivetrains for breakfeast.. shaft rockers hopefully going in soon.. time to get some seat time in it before Optima's Laguna event in March Sounds like a great group of guys and Ron just fries my brain Time to do some measuring on my cars to see how screwed up they really are:) Panteracer- Norcal Bob |

When we met I had no idea I'd be swapping pedals so you weren't the only one who didn't realize the extent of the:superhack: :lmao: Look you fit right in with the peanut gallery. already busting my chops about a timeline. :lmao: It is a great group of people that I have been lucky to meet. Most of them have that Camaro issue they are dealing with, but other than that they are a great group. :stirthepot: It will be cool to see your Firechicken up and running. I have a soft spot for those. Ron is a wealth of information and a very gracious and helpful guy. I am hesitant to speak with him anymore because I always come away from the conversation wanting to change something. :bang:  I need to get back down to Brett's and finish the motor mounting project. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps2446987a.jpg Hope you didn't put too many new stress cracks in the Pantera paint at Optima. |

PS - It's tough to edit spelling and grammar errors for a guy trashing us Camaro owners.......but I honestly care about your image. :D |

I take just a little trip --- and Torinodude picks up another "friend"… OMG…
Bob --- Laguna Seca is a blast…. just having run it today for the first time! It will eat cars for lunch in a hurry! We had more cars off track and beat up here than all of the other track days I've done - COMBINED. It was raining wrecks out here today. Anyway --- I wanted to jump in and say that while this thread might also be a wreck --- keep reading -- 'cause we wouldn't all jump him so badly if we didn't truly love him. (his Mother told me to say that. Apparently he calls her with a bit of a whine from time to time about his "thread" going sideways) |
Torino guys dont get any love...:slingshot:
He did post a picture  :popcorn2: |
69 Torino
Rob,
I did not really crack the Pantera any more at Optima I had a blast at Optima and Sema Wish I could have gone to the Lateral g evening but my Pantera buddy showed up to help that night at 8pm I thought I would start out right away busting your chops as I have a Firebird buddy constantly bugging me about the firechicken and it is always the Pantera first.. hope to even that out this next year I know what you are going through because everything you buy for a Pantera does not fit or needs to be Modified... I cannot tell you how many times I looked at the wiring and hoses trying to figure out where to run and mount things.. it takes time and for those doing it themselves I give them a lot of credit In the Firebird I have moved the Alternator three times in the last year... Our Pantera group visited Moals shop the last two years and they had a build going and we all were trying to figure out how the steering was going to get past the headers.. they said they were working on it... so even the big boys have issues As far as your car being a beast my Firebird weighed in at 3710 lbs at the Goodguys event earlier this year.. I just changed out the rear leafs to monoleaves- yes still running old school but lost 70 lbs.. need to go after the hood, rear glass, get rid of the rear seats etc.. it will take time but I need to get the weight down I appreciate all of Rons advice on the handling issues That is where I really want to learn how to tune a car instead of just driving them after they are done.. It took a long time to get the Pantera neutral but then just before Optima I put shorter tires in the rear and taller in the front to get the 200 rating That car has 245's in front and 315's out back so your stagger is nothing Talk about messing with the geometry Greg Weld... I was going to go to Laguna today but I had date night at the Sharks tank with my wife.. it was supposed to be tonight but someone scheduled the game for 1pm today and I could not get them to change it:)... so I was stuck I used to run with the Norcal Shelby guys a lot when I had my mustang but now run with Checkered flag more.. less cars on track and less guys bending things up.. Norcal has had a lot of wrecks lately but a great group of guys and very fast Finally I hate to say I am still a closet Camero guy.. I had a 69 z28 when I was a kid and bought a 69 shell a few years back thinking I was going to build a Pt car.. it sat for 5 years with no work on it so I sold it and went back to working on the Firebird.. love that car as it was a $300 piece of crap 23 years ago. it has won a lot of events and evolved over the years but eats motors- #9 in it now:) I will stay active here as like a few have said we like to see something different.. love the stance on your car.. Wondering how low is the bellhousing?.. I just raised the firebird up 1 1/2" because I only had 1 1/2" clearence on the dougs 3 1/2" collectors What really scared me was the bellhousing was slightly lower than the headers that would scrape on the ground 2-3 times when I took it for a spin Panteracer- Norcal Bob |

As of this afternoon the Quicktime is now exactly the same height as the frame rails from the ground. :unibrow: Nothing will be lower than the frame rails. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps5d449deb.jpghttp://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psd98bbe16.jpg  |
