Track Test
I ran my Camaro at a small track close to my house yesterday - Waterford Hills Race Way. I wanted to shake the car down after tuning it up. We also made some changes to try to get it to run cooler than it did at Gingerman. At Gingerman my coolant temp got to 245 F and my oil was over 280 F (off the gauge). We redid the calibration; I added a larger cooling fan and sealed off the rad to the rad support. The other big change was getting all the soap out of the intercooler system. (Tech Tip) NEVER USE DISHWASHING SOAP TO LUBE YOUR HOSES! I was looking for something to make trial fitting the hoses easier on my intercooler system so I used a little dish soap. My whole system was full of tiny bubbles. We finally just hooked a garden hose to the system and flushed it for 30 minutes to flush it all out. Oh well live and learn. That change alone gained us 50 HP on the chassis dyno due to be able to keep the charge air temps down.
I was able to run the car flat out for two 20 minute sessions with no issues and the coolant temp stabilized at 220 F and the oil was 260 F. On a hot humid day in MI on a moderate speed track I feel that is good. On my cool down lap I was to do a good 3 gear burn out down the back straight. I drove the car to the track and drove it home with the A/C on. ;) I got home and put the car up on jack stands to look the car over. The car leaked no fluids - NONE! I love LS engines. The whole bottom of the car is bone dry. If you have ever built a car like this and beat on it at a track you know how hard it is to keep the fluids in it. I'm very happy with the car and how all the DSE chassis works. I still need to get the ABS up and running. I'll get on that next week. All the wiring checks out so no I think it may be a module issue. http://www.clutchpics.com/Motorsport...6_GQ3x2-XL.jpg http://www.clutchpics.com/Motorsport...4_tg96P-XL.jpg http://www.clutchpics.com/Motorsport...3_gFKjQ-XL.jpg |
The car looks great Mark!! Nice heads up on the soap....I have used it in the past and surely would have again....thanks!
Who would have thought you would gain 50 hp by flushing bubbles out of your IC!! I can't wait to see it at Optima!! |
Who would have thought soap bubbles could cost 50HP! Good info there. Awesome as always!
