Will be working with global west to do som tuning an their new Penske line of shocks

Hi Steve, just a query, at the beginning of this thread you said, QUOTE:-

"Bigger on the list was that David thought we needed more shock travel. Seems that were were on the stops durring hard turns and even on acceleration. We worked with Steve Duck over at RaceCar Dynamics and came up with a shock that's over two inches longer. The new Bilsteins are also revalved for the car. The extra length meant that we had to punch holes in the trunk floor so that this mount extender could be welded to the top of the existing brace. The top hole is for future changes if necessary."

Why are you still having trouble with the shocks bottoming out, I thought that this area had been addressed by "punching the holes in the trunk & welding in extenders"? Does this mean that you're changing from the Bilsteins to Penske shocks now? If so what's wrong with the Bilsteins? How much shock compression/travel are you getting with the set up as is? Could it be that your spring rate is wrong allowing an excessive amount of spring compression? Sorry for so many questions, but I'm sure that those people that are following this, wouldn't want to copy your set up & find it falls short of what they want, just as you have.

thanks....Nige

If you are having

trouble getting in first without going to second...I believe you have a bad synchro.

Glad you car is back on the road.

Because we keep softening up the springs to make the car more complian.. going from a 310 to 275 rear spring was just enought to cause the new problem.. I think the extra power makes the car want to squat down more as well.

normally we could dial in rebound or compression but my current shocks arnt adjustable.

Moral? get adjustable shocks if your going to do different types of performance events... just make sure you adjust them right

I will know more once Doug Nordin at GW takes a look and some measurements..

How much shock travel do you have available currently?

All of a sudden? Seemed fine back at optima.. then again it was acting up but we thought it was the bent clutch master rod...

Also has a hard time going into first if you are rolling more than 1MPH

not enough! lol

Seriously.. the distance (maybe 4 inches) is only part of the problem.. compression setting is another. with the old springs and power it was fine, barely, but the didnt crash out.

No shiat sherlock... I have 2" of compression available with 175's and the RR bottoms but the LR has about a .25 left. Clearly mine is under a full hook left hander. Man, you run stiff springs like the TCI car. No wonder mine rides like a Cadillac.:unibrow:

That was a good tease, I bet you can't wait for a real track!

Doug felt the if the car is this fast with these issues then it should be stupid fast once they are fixed.. even with me driving... lol
