Chief, are you still using primarily the red or tan scothbrite type roloc discs to remove surface rust?
What sort of RPM are you using in order to not smoke through the discs like no tomorrow? Great work ethic! Robert |

Just came in for dinner ... the passenger side drip rail/ roof piece is off, what a PITA! I will post pictures later ... need to get some heat going (8 inches of snow and maybe 28F outside, maybe 50 inside the garage) and get the drivers side done, set goals and stick to them  |
Goal met!
got both sides of the roof/ drip rail off took longer than I thought it would. Got the lead outa the passenger quarter roof joint and continued with the drip rails ... overall a good day. Used the DeWalt and the fiber disc to clean everything down to clean metal.
http://imageshack.us/a/img715/7240/1303231930.jpg Cleaned up the passenger side. http://imageshack.us/a/img546/1372/1303231934.jpg Passenger drip rail ... this will not buff out! http://imageshack.us/a/img18/6537/1303231941.jpg Driver's side .... uggggg! http://imageshack.us/a/img541/241/1303231947.jpg Parting shot .... much better with out rust:D Thanks for looking ... more to come :thankyou: |

Just a how to
get those little retainers out of the headliner headers? I tried to get these out when I was cleaning up the metal on the interior and they would not come .... now with the roof off I can see how they work.
So I took a flat chisel and just popped it with a rubber mallet and they came out the bottom, kool. I know most people will never get this far with their car but that's how to get them out. Luckily the header part is galvanized and just needs cleaning. http://imageshack.us/a/img607/956/1303291958.jpg There are 8 across the front and 6 in the back! http://imageshack.us/a/img850/5425/1303291961.jpg You can see how they force the sides out when they get pushed in, kool! I want to thank all those that have sent their condolences, I passed them onto my family. Seems friends are planning a motorcycle memorial ride for David through the mountains ... he would have liked that, as he's done it for fallen brothers. I'm just dillydalleying around tonight .... might patch some of those holes I made in the drip rail. Thanks for looking.... Michael |
Great job Micheal, starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. Keep it up

Spent some time with the Camaro .... welded up most of the driver's side drip rail channel, that took longer than I thought, might have been easier to shave the drip rails  I wanted to get ready for some epoxy on the roof and b pillar and then noticed the factory black on the underside of the roof ... well time to make a big mess and get all down to metal so that is what I did today. http://imageshack.us/a/img195/6971/1303301967.jpg This was my view for finishing the channel ... shadow grinding? http://imageshack.us/a/img109/8734/1303301971.jpg Underside is all done.... My arms are tired now. http://imageshack.us/a/img703/7118/1303301976.jpg This is how she looks now! I welded up the holes in the front header panel and dressed them up. and every time hit the topside with the disc all I could smell was mouse pee and rust :disgusted: I plan to spray epoxy as soon as I get the pass side channel touched up ... and the weather is warmer. Thanks for looking ... |
It looks great. Stay strong.
