Sometimes you just need an Easy project (05-21-22)
This should be a simple project. If and when I have to drain the radiator I would love to be able to put a hose on the drain so I picked up a couple of these at Advance Auto.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...10e6adf-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...de07d2b-me.jpg I am finally going through all of the nuts and bolts and making sure everything is final tight. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...944ce9a-me.jpg More notes http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...50128e1-me.jpg I have had this ratchetting open end wrench set for years and it still comes in handy. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fd23740-me.jpg Mocking up the lines on the Vintage Air http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...67a5f61-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...927ec04-me.jpg I ran the lines in two different colors so I can quickly tell which is which when I am laying under the dash. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...827dc07-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...529fd7f-me.jpg I finally found battery terminal covers that will actually work. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...47cd560-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0b1390b-me.jpg I was even able to find a suitable location for the optima battery charge wires. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9b37288-me.jpg Alternator wire cover. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e9edfd6-me.jpg |
Have you ever had any problems with either of those radiator drain cocks getting seized together and not opening?
|
I was thinking the same thing. I’d dab some anti size on both threads.
Goose daddy, Great find on the terminal covers. Do you know of any for the battery bulkheads ? |

Cleaning the final wiring ( 05-22-22 )
Cleaning up the final wiring and making it permanent
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...87a12ef-me.jpg I trimmed out this hole for the Mag Daddy magnet wire holder http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...028bb97-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3418fb3-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...cd97d12-me.jpg I have learned having a small box handy in the car for all the stuff. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f421e4b-me.jpg Let's not forget the stuff hidden behind the vintage air unit. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...60a833e-me.jpg I need to lengthen just one side of the fuse holder wiring as I will be unable to reach this fuse when everything is all buttoned up. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...79ba1a8-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5f398a2-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d602033-me.jpg If you look really close you can see the fuse is hidden behind the fuse relay wiring. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f6ac637-me.jpg Test fitting the Holley ECU http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...371f3b7-me.jpg As always it is nice to have someone to talk with even if he only barks. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...501f638-me.jpg |

Working on routing the Vintage Air Coolant line using the Mag Daddy Line clamps. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c00ffbe-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...eb9c9b7-me.jpg I also moved the valve from in the inside of the car to the cowl as it will be much easier to service if I am have to replace it. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b8c974d-me.jpg I made this little mock up bracket to stabilize the valve http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ae9cd53-me.jpg While I am here I also routed all of the extra wire from the Holley ECU to the front of the car. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d39980c-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c2b70c3-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...86f0260-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c2b70c3-me.jpg Vintage Air wires that will be eventually connected. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ccf7e2c-me.jpg I used the heat shrink spade connectors instead of adding heat shrink tubing. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...28ebe23-me.jpg AC Lines added into the mix http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...faf3b83-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4547eff-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...28dc39e-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...687ff8c-me.jpg You know the bracket I made ... well that was became useless when I ran the AC lines as there just wasn't enough room. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9290a2d-me.jpg These cloth Velcro wire ties work really nice during mock up and they come in multiple lengths and they also offer more aggressive Velcro closure. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...902b9ff-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3bdbf95-me.jpg I need this fitting so I can remake the one AC line as I plan to reroute it in front of the battery instead of under the tray. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...08a068e-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...34d35af-me.jpg |
Coming along nice. This is tedious work, but the satisfaction of knowing it was done correctly is worth it in the long run.

Thank you for the kind words and I am hoping that 99% of what I am doing is correct. I have made a couple mistakes along the way and thankfully I have had fellow board members and good friends make suggestions that make more sense. |
Looking great, I’m gonna have to get some of those mag daddy holders. I can use those in a lot of areas on my car.
|
I’ve seen those Velcro zipTies before, Yet I’ve never thought about where they could prove useful. Thanks for showing me lol. Great idea

Trying to find the easy way out (( 06-05-22 ))
So I am running the DSE wiper harness under the steering column so it looks somewhat factory. However I am trying to come up with a solution to retain the line clamp. Since the hardware isn't a machine thread there really isn't a nut available. In the end I should have just drilled out the holes and tapped them for an actual bolt and then I could just use a nut & washer in the engine bay.
Attempt #1 License plate nut. -- Fail http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3e96399-me.jpg Attempt # 2 I forgot what these are called. -- Fail http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c6023d1-me.jpg They kinda work but not really http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4ee133e-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1378640-me.jpg In the end I am just going to drill & tap the holes and do it the right way. |
Holley Sniper Intake Manifold Fittings (( 06-05-22 ))
Time to finally finish the intake manifold so I can install it in a couple weeks.

I decided to paint the back side of the fenders.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...95f807b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...93a5d5f-me.jpg Fender is finally home and will soon be on the car. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...638995d-me.jpg Prepping the car so I can install the fender. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9cc8a99-me.jpg It's nice finally removing some of the blue tape. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...02cfd91-me.jpg I am happy that I had Larry paint the firewall satin black as it is a nice contrast with the body color. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e52e204-me.jpg Hopefully, I can get Mike or Scott to come over and give me a hand to install the fender soon. |
A little late to the party, But...

These were once much more expensive and harder to find. This is one that found and use for a number of projects with a great size selection. You can also get all of the sizes of rivet nuts in stainless. https://www.amazon.com/Giantisan-Pro...NsaWNrPXRydWU=

That’s a really fair price. IMO

I love rivetnuts...

Wow that is cheap and I will be adding this to my Amazon Shopping list.

Holley Sniper Intake Manifold finally installed ( 06-12-22 )
It's finally time to install the intake for the last time which means I should probably torque down the valley cover.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9cd9ef9-me.jpg and I actually used a torque wrench http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7b0e773-me.jpg More notes http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3783123-me.jpg Did I ever mention how much I love installing injectors. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1a010d2-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...38ee857-me.jpg Yes a 3 Way Allen wrench comes in handy when assembling the rails. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1e02671-me.jpg So this injector seems to be the issue that is preventing me from installing the rail. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b92f57f-me.jpg Rail is back off yet again. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...70982f2-me.jpg So I removed all of the brackets again and installed the rails everything was good. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d5e47ab-me.jpg Here is the culprit. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6a5a536-me.jpg Off to my Grandfathers Vise. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6296013-me.jpg All better http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9b8d749-me.jpg Finally done and ready to be installed but being honest I need Taco's http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3672db2-me.jpg |

Indicatory Wiring relocation (( 06-12-22 ))
It was late and I had a little left in me after a very long day. So I decided to do one more small project and oddly enough it was stupid easy. I walked over to my box of grommet and the first grommet I found fit perfectly.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...715358a-me.jpg and the good news is I had two of them and I had enough left over wire to extend both wire looms. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...530b819-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...34d970b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4ca91ff-me.jpg How is it possible that I used all of these tools today. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d7d84dd-me.jpg |

It is coming together, Marty! I am envious of your attention to detail. All the little things you're doing definitely will add up to a beautiful and reliable ride for sure!
I am taking notes on all your tips and tricks as well. I will be tackling the Vintage Air install and dash wiring on mine very soon.... Hopefully. |

Looks like more of my ADD issue's are surfacing. (( 06-18-22 ))
I did something different this time before I started working on the car. I actually went for Taco's
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4324783-me.jpg My goal is to hide the Injector Harness as much as possible. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d74ded4-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...16c0d32-me.jpg I used Tessa Tape at the harness plug http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...77aac82-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6ee6c3a-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...93a2e32-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7fabf6a-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1051516-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e18da88-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7341e23-me.jpg |
Power Master Alternator Is 165 amps enough for EFI (( 06-20-22 ))
So serious question is a 165 amp alternator enough for the Holley Terminator X EFI ?
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...da36f10-me.jpg Continuing with the Manifold install I cut the vacuum lines to length. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0700834-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2bd7a8b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a1452a2-me.jpg |
Final Wiring routed under Drivers Side fender (( 06-25-22 ))
I started final routing of the wires on the drivers side of the car.

Upper & Lower Radiator Hoses (( 06-26-22 ))
Kenny did an unbelievable job on the upper and lower radiator hose's
I am going to order an longer hose for the connection at the water pump. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...46a5400-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ee587f3-me.jpg I also finished up the routing for the Vintage Air lines. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a6ef25b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5bfd4c6-me.jpg |
Opps I made a mistake with the Ground Wires - Thank you Kenny & Ron (( 07-01-22 ))
So when I was doing the wiring I just had a brain fart and forgot that if I flip the switch on the battery shut off and then
went and tried to start the car it would still go through all of the small grounds on the top of the battery. Thank you Kenny and Ron for explaining this to me and hopefully I got it right this time. I hope this is the last time that I will be taking this headlight bucket out. FYI in order to put the upper and lower valance on the headlight bucket has to be removed so it will not be going back on till I am ready to install the upper and lower valance. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f1f5a11-me.jpg All the wires have been exposed and I can now visually see my mistake. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fe499f5-me.jpg I really love the DSE lights however how much better can the new Holley Lights actually be. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...93f1d74-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...500d967-me.jpg Everything that was on the top post terminal will now be moved to this remote ground stud. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...118a3d0-me.jpg Off to Ace Hardware for more nuts, washers and bolts. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...31b552d-me.jpg I also used nylock nut so I don't have to worry about the bolts coming loose. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6de428d-me.jpg Have I mentioned how much I love drilling into pretty paint. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...72fe1a8-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5498f1b-me.jpg You can see that I hid the ground lug behind the battery so it could be easily serviced if necessary. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f687f1f-me.jpg I made a temporary ground wire that runs back to the lug where all of the wires moved to. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...49daa86-me.jpg I put some TechFlex wrap over the wires and called it a night. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fc05665-me.jpg |
1 Attachment(s)
Just a thought on the injector wires. You could run the wires under the fuel rails and behind the runners. If you split the harness into two sides then each side could tuck in between the runner and the valley cover of the engine. There's usually a nice little pocket formed there that holds the wires nicely and completely hidden. Keep the harness separate like in this pic, adding the black covering.

Vintage Air valve final connections (( 07-02-22 ))
So the line are finally on for the last time.
You can see the line clamps are hanging out and could cut me or possible cut a wire. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f2db0ec-me.jpg The trick I learned years ago was to stick a small bolt under the metal strap that is hanging off and just push it down. It's just that simple. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b9242d0-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...70e2b72-me.jpg |

More small projects (( 07-02-22 ))
I figured I might as well tackle this project the old school was and just cut the darn bolts instead of buying new ones.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f4f66db-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2c09e86-me.jpg Note to self don't pick it up it's hot !! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...07501a5-me.jpg When it's hot let it lie http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...55f326f-me.jpg Looks good to me http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...43d10d6-me.jpg I even layered a little bit of sound deadening over it just in case. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a361fb3-me.jpg Installed the foam to reduce the air traveling around the radiator instead of through it like it needs to be. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b796644-me.jpg Maybe one day soon I will ask Mario if he can paint my Radiator and fan shroud. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0bfd2b1-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8f60edb-me.jpg |
A Gamble that actually paid off (( 07-09-22 ))
So I took a gamble on a fitting from Amazon and it actually worked perfectly.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5dfe950-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...cff4f32-me.jpg I used this fitting on the overflow vent and it had to be able to spin and not hit the radiator and end up in the correct orientation facing the overflow tank. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f0f710c-me.jpg Shocking it worked perfectly. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f6da912-me.jpg |
Back to the Radiator Hoses (( 07-09-22 ))
Originally I was going to use the Gates Heat Shrink hose clamps but that goes against the thought of being able to fix
the car on the side of the road. So I picked up these very nice stainless steel hose clamps. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f3efc60-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6f7f518-me.jpg So this is one of things that you just can't believe was the fix. Way back when I replace the door hinge pins the drivers door just didn't close nearly as nice as the passenger. I'm still not sure why I thought about putting just a little bit of oil in the latch assembly. Well SOB it actually worked and worked incredibly well. So much so it has fixed the problem. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8bc8f36-me.jpg |
Back to the Intake Manifold (( 07-09-22 ))
Back to the intake Holley Sniper Intake Manifold.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2e64884-me.jpg The only way to get these lines off is with a knife. You can also see I added DEI Heat Sleeve around one of the hoses. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d94605a-me.jpg I hope this is the final plumbing and wiring. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c343f69-me.jpg I decided to vacuum bleed the brakes and all seemed good. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7660ad1-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...48b1c2d-me.jpg I went out to get tacos and on my way home I decided to pick up the oil for the motor. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...56a59d5-me.jpg Opps apparently the passenger side brake line had to go to the bathroom. Ugh !!!! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9c52839-me.jpg |
