Slip Yolk Travel (( 07-16-22 ) Got a Question...Need Advice
Back out in the garage and back at it.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d79dcd7-me.jpg The guys at Pro-Tek Powder Coating did an incredible job on the Yolk. However he may have put a little bit to much powder coating on the shaft. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9df4bdc-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f2857e3-me.jpg So I have question how much inward travel should I expect ?? |
Quote:
Of course you can always sand some coating off to give yourself more room if needed. Tape off the clean part of the yoke and touch up the end of the powdercoating with matching paint, nobody will notice. Quote:
|
:secret::goggles: Except Marty will know...
|
Thank You and I was hoping that is what you would say. It looks like I am going to remove another 3/8" of the powder coating which will give me 1.25" of inward travel.

What do you use to wrap at the ends of your braided loom? Would you mind showing a pic of the label maker that you use to label your wires? One last question, lol. Where do you source your shrink wrap. Your thread makes me want do a nicer job on the details lol. Thanks, Jim |

Installing the Driveshaft (( 08-14-22 )) WTF !!!
So, I had a little bit of free time so I decided I would install the U-Joints and put the driveshaft in. Well, that didn't go so well

Power Probe 3 and the Driveshaft Yet Again (( 09-04-22 ))
So, I went out and bought the Power Probe 3 for the final wiring and to figure out a couple wiring issue's. I picked it up at Harbor Freight with a 25% discount & gift card when it was on sale so I paid $125. It's kind of one of those tools that I will use a few time but boy is it fun to play with.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...475f4dc-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...26c2722-me.jpg So back to the driveshaft and good news is I get to use my Grandfathers Vice to crush this bitch. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...cc60abb-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ccdf7f6-me.jpg Finally the snap ring is seated !!! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2e98d5f-me.jpg Install time for the last time I hope. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...db28a75-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fdbfd18-me.jpg okay I lied i forgot I still need to remove some powder coating. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...60af149-me.jpg Might as well plug in all of the sensors. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...374c31a-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...87dab22-me.jpg Not using this one. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0357818-me.jpg I also spent a little time cleaning up the top drawer of my wiring box. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...952a1d4-me.jpg |
Looking good. Sorry I couldn’t find those part numbers before you did. I got sidetracked. My-bad lol But thanks for posting them. I always thought they were metal. When I seen a post before referencing them, I just assumed just that brand was plastic.

Holley wires that need to go to the brake pedal switch. You are looking for the wire that is hot when the pedal is depressed.

Confirming we have enough inward travel on the driveshaft (( 09-10-22 ))
My OCD is slowly killing me and I just want to make sure that there is sufficient inward trave for the driveshaft.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...02d6f9c-me.jpg So I slid it in till it bottom out and it looks like I have just shy of 7/8" of travel. I also took a few pictures of everything that will be behind the dash so I can reference these pictures in the future. Holley Gas Tank Filler Neck (( 09-10-22 ))
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fcf584a-me.jpg
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a49609d-me.jpg Well it's just a little to long so I am going to cut a little bit off. Lokar Dip Stick Fill Tube Modification (( 09-17-22 ))
In order to fill the trans I needed to find a safe way to fill the trans without spilling the trans fluid all over the place.
A quick trip to Home Depot so I can figure out a decent solution. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fa9f045-me.jpg Lokar Supply's a little 3" fill tube which is quite useless in my opinion. You can see the fill tube they supplied slides in with resistance so it shouldn't leak. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d411903-me.jpg More Blue Tape Notes. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e420170-me.jpg Time to tighten the motor mounts and it looks like I need to go grab some lock washer since I can't seem to find them. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8364c6b-me.jpg Thankfully Ace Hardware is only a few miles away. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c8bcdec-me.jpg All Better http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ec31c16-me.jpg Picked up my new new Optima Battery today wow has the price gone up. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5a3bf1c-me.jpg Another while I am here job. I added the charge wire that came with the Optima battery charger. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2497ecf-me.jpg I snaked the wire down the back of the battery & core support. You can see it neatly hiding under the battery tray. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...339eb81-me.jpg I finally added a zip tie to the starter wires. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3c98503-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0eb892d-me.jpg Holy Crap I am finally putting Oil back in the motor. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4d8a5f9-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e9eff0a-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...772f18d-me.jpg Finally installed the 45mm Throttle Body Hardware. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4922e2c-me.jpg Sorry these pictures suck. I finally figured out a good way to run the vintage air drain. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...593974b-me.jpg Looking up http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0fc8f30-me.jpg I snaked it up and over the frame rail. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2a29b5f-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3299abb-me.jpg I also took a few reference pictures so I can draw up a battery wiring diagram. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...086fd47-me.jpg You can see I moved the Holley ECU ground to the battery disconnect side. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3a45a11-me.jpg All the grounds going to the stud on the back of the core support. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7cbb150-me.jpg Tomorrow it get's the trans fluid. |
The VA drain line routing photos reminded me I need to do the same. I've been using the cheap plastic drain line they supplied and, even with heat shielding over it, it's deformed from header heat.
Do you happen to recall the size of your Gates hose? I can't seem to make out the size from these photos. Daniel |
Hi Daniel,
I am doing this from memory and I am fairly certain I am correct that it is 3/8". On a side note I went with the Gate's hose is the hose wasn't as flimsy as the generic 3/8" hose that I had laying around. Quote:
