You guys will be sick of this thread -- but I FINALLY ordered the trailer that I need and was my original "idea" back about 2 years ago... with a few mods -- mostly -- it's going to be built all "racer boy" in the interior -- as in aluminum skinned cabinets (in red) - like a high end tool box - with stainless steel counter tops -- like you'd have in a nice shop.... and coin floor done black and white checkered... even the dinning table is going to be stainless steel top.
28' box - 14' living quarters - so 50' overall including the 8' "overhead" going with ATC trailer - all aluminum triple axles - spread diesel gen heat & A/C Extra height all white .050 skin --- Will do something like a wrap for flames etc Girard awning slide out where sofa is single car Waiting for them to give me weight so I can order a new truck. Deposit wired today - to Poulsen Trailers in Logan Utah. Dave Poulsen has worked with me for about 2 years and stuck by me thru all the iterations -- and even when I told him about the giant rig he was enthusiastic and gracious. This last trip with the roadster -- going with two other rigs -- made me realize that too big is stupid -- it's the most fun with OTHER PEOPLE - and Other people don't have giant azz rigs... and when we're all together at some track event -- we can just use the crap out of it and nothing will get scratched or dirty etc... it's just going to be a nice big toolbox with a refer and a toilet and I can make coffee and get out of the heat or rain. :woot: |

Cool, Greg! Thanks for the update, I had been wondering about this!
If you can do a 3500, would you? Everyone says the chevy/gmc tows the best but the Fords and Dodges can be appointed far nicer inside. |
I know you had high hopes of seeing the country in the toter but what you've been doing lately seems a far better choice. Drive to a destination, get out a cool hotrod, cruise and sightsee in that, load and go to the next destination. Seeing some beautiful back country in a 32 or a Nomad sounds like a rodders dream.

I would LOVE to try to stick to an F-350 Dually -- which is what I have now. Mine is a King Ranch which I'd never bother to do again... but that's just the leather BS interior. Regular Lariat would be fine! I just can't pull the trigger until I know the weights. Owned a Dodge -- won't do that again -- they have THE WORST back seats EVER in the entire universe. And you can't go with the MegaCab thing with a gooseneck.... Ya gotta have the 8' box. |

Jeff -- you summed it up perfectly. It just isn't that big of a deal to unload - cruise - load 'er up and move on. Get a room - or not - which is what I'd like to have the OPTION of doing... no rooms available - no biggie - we'll just 'camp out'. The very few times a guy would NEED a race car - the hot rod - and a regular car with him - are far and few between... and even farther if Gwen isn't going to move in it and go for 6 weeks at a time.... No problem - I'm okay with that.... Like I told her many times on the Monaco trip -- I'm perfectly fine with mezzikan food with the boys in Willows... and, in fact, prefer it. :woot: This trailer is big enough for some space - and not so big that you're screwed all the time. I can still travel with my friends... Track weekend -- and we're all dirty hot and sweaty.... no biggie - have a seat - grab a beer (or a Tonic in my case, hold the gin)... I got a couple TV's for Charley... |
Ha !! Too bad it won't be ready for Sears Point in 2 weeks.

Greg,
You should be very pleaed with ATC. I own two myself, best and lightest trailers Ive ever had. Although not cheap but well worth it for the quality this company puts out. I trashed a fender two years back and the company drove across state lines to replace it in my driveway, saved me a 2 1/2 hr trip to them. I pull the 26ft with a 3/4 ton single axle truck with no problems. |
