:popcorn2: It looks like you have done a great job crossing all your T's and dotting your I's, but I wanted to share some information about a product that I have been using on my battery terminals and all of those hard to get to electrical connections and plugs that have a tendency to get moisture on them.

Lokar Dip Stick Fill Tube (( 09-18-22 ))
Today was the day I get to see if what I created works and of course the Ice Cream Oreo Cookie Sandwich just because.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d941812-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4e76e84-me.jpg Works Perfectly http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d86c50b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...269c1a7-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7d03261-me.jpg Eight Quarts in and no leaks. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...335b344-me.jpg |

AAW Start Up Wiring confirmation (( 10-02-22 ))
Getting closer and closer.
The new battery is installed and power is being supplied for the first time in three years. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3b9d110-me.jpg We have lights http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...244aaa7-me.jpg Uhm we don't have working indicators so Mike starts hunting for the issue. Well about 5 minutes latter Mike discovers that the steering column wasn't plugged into the body harness. DA !!! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...900ef6d-me.jpg |
Getting closer, Marty!
I am excited for you! |
Marty,
Your getting a lot done. That’s got to feel amazing. Are you going to be running inner wheel wells ? I couldn’t imagine getting the detailed engine compartment dirty.:hairpullout::hairpullout::hairpullout: |

The garage from the front looks like a standard two car garage. However, it’s Forty feet deep with a 12 foot ceiling in the back. I have a sliding curtain wall that allows me to heat just back half of the garage. If I had to do it over again I would make it 22 x 44 which would allow me to have two full two car garages with a full work bench on the back wall. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Getting closer day by day (( 10-04-22 ))
I am getting really close to starting this car with Andrew. Hopefully this weekend.
Just in case all this all goes bad I asked my buddy Erik (Fireman/EMT) what Fire Extinguisher I should get and this is what he recommended. So I will be picking one up this week. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a3bf5ab-me.png http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f90e28b-me.png A long time ago I ordered a set of black headlight rings from Anvil and when I attempted to install them with the original hardware the bolts were not long enough. So once again I am heading back to Ace Hardware for some Stainless Steel hardware. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1503b16-me.jpg For reference I am installing the DSE Truck Lights. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...46c48b4-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b382514-me.jpg I misplaced one of the plastic things that the headlight trim ring screws into so I will be searching all of my bags of parts later today or sometime in the near future. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7d0b97b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3f94e2c-me.jpg This is what I will be looking for. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ac14a9b-me.jpg It's the little things that seem to slow projects down. |
Lower Valance ARP Hardware (( 10-08-22 ))
Thankfully I have lots of ARP hardware hanging on my wall.
I needed to add a spacer so I used four stainless steel washer and to make it easy I Super Glued them together. I found that if you stack and glue each one on a bolt with three little dots of Super Glue it works perfect. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9088bc2-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4b29be0-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ec6e047-me.jpg |
Vintage Air Hose Routing (( 10-08-22 ))
I spent a lot of time planning the Vintage Air hose routing on this car. You can see the hose is secured in two location on the front
of the core support and the other on the bumper bracket. If you look closely on the left you can see that I installed a longer bolt in the battery tray bolt that protrudes through the core support which allows me to secure the line. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...43fc606-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...306773d-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c914d21-me.jpg |
Looks great Marty. Are those DSE Truck Lights LED? I seems Will’s 69 427LS TT build had Truck Lights. LEDs that he had looked fricken awesome. By chance do you recall the price? Ball parks fine.

Anvil RS Bumpers & Totally Stainless Core Support Hardware (( 10-09-22 ))
Sometimes it's all about the simple projects and today I worked on the RS bumpers and making them as close to level as possible.
I used the original hardware which looks really bad. Who new this would happen being in my garage attic for the last three years. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0c97347-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0d86a8b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f61ba10-me.jpg Uhm, Any chance you see this gap well the carbon inner fenders should be in between here. So when Mike said don't the inner fenders have to go on first and of course I replied "Nope". Well, I was wrong, incorrect, brain dead and or just a dumb butt. Which means the lower valance will have to come back off. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5a2a735-me.jpg It feels good to finally put in the last Totally Stainless ARP body bolt kit. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8e702e0-me.jpg Out with the old and in with the new. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8720266-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c7c5d06-me.jpg Of course the battery try will need to come out so I can get to the passenger side bolt. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a0ae531-me.jpg Reference picture. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4aa467d-me.jpg Well that wonderful Mini Cresent wrench fell in between the AC condenser and the Radiator and landed smack dab on the bottom of the core support. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4c9c709-me.jpg Back to the core support bolts. This is a simple little trick I learn years ago when you have to put a washer in an impossible location all you need to do is add a little grease to the back side and slide it up and in. Gravity will have ne effect on it and it will stay in it's place so you can easily install the nylock nut. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e63301e-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d19d9f0-me.jpg Yes, I was able to get the little Cresent wrench out !!! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...04ed766-me.jpg |
Holley Brake Light Switch Wiring. (( 10-13-22 ))
Finally getting close to the end and today I am working on the wiring that goes to the brake pedal switch. In the American Auto Wire harness the white wire is hot when the brake pedal is applied.
In order to solder in the two wires that need to be added to this wire I removed it from the plug. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6f1864d-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...75f9dfb-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3ba517e-me.jpg I also added the Drive By Wire. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...de66c62-me.jpg Little bit of Heat Shrink. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...68de517-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...322a023-me.jpg The Drive By Wire is temporally tucked up here while I wait for a really cool push button switch. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d5b8e5f-me.jpg I probably shouldn't have eaten these as my stomach didn't feel good later that evening. It sucks to get old. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3c42a10-me.jpg |

ARP Steering Column Hardware (( 10-15-22 ))
I needed a better solution securing the DSE wiper harness to the firewall. Instead of using the factory hardware I tapped the existing
holes to 1/4 x 20 and threaded the ARP bolts from the engine bay into the interior. It also completes the ARP them on the firewall and it is also an easy way to secure the line clamps. I needed larger stainless steel washer so a quick trip to Home Depot 20 minutes before closing I grabbed the washers & jam nuts I needed. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b63c61c-me.jpg Since I was unable to use a tap handle on a couple of the holes I had to improvise. On the smaller taps a 12 point 6mm socket will easily prevent the tap from twisting. However, It can fall out so I used my favorite roll of blue tap to secure it. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...689d79d-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4a82ab1-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d4ab752-me.jpg You can see one of the ARP bolts and one of the sheet metal screws has yet to be removed and replace. In the end I am not sure anyone will really notice but I am certain Mike will notice so I had to do it before he called m out. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8ee8523-me.jpg The DSE wire harness is now neatly secured http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...207b0ae-me.jpg You can see the top bolt as on the only one left and it was ugly compare to the stainless steer nuts. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f331a65-me.jpg All done. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4f7108f-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1994ff7-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fb9e58e-me.jpg If anyone tells me that I need to replace the brake booster hardware with ARP bolts I promise you I will start crying. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...485e0cc-me.jpg Clean Up time as I have to get some sleep. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d18b9d7-me.jpg These mini ratchets are so useful. If you don't have them in your tool box you need to buy some. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...83cf128-me.jpg I have hit my head on this M F N bracket so many times that it is coming off till I absolutely need it on !!! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...64cc22c-me.jpg |
Ignition On While Cranking & Ignition On (( 10-15-22 ))
Well I am down to the last three wires on the Holley Terminator X. The little Red/White wire need to have power when
the ignition is on and still on when cranking. In order to confirm I have the correct circuit I will need to power the car back up and crank the motor. However, I would I don't really want to crank a dry motor. So Mike suggested I remove the Purple wire on the solenoid and trick the car into thinking it's cranking. Which means I have to take the dang header off yet again !!!!!! Picture for reference. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...72258de-me.jpg Note the location of the Lokar Dip Stick. If you locate the dip stick one cylinder forward it actually doesn't seat in the block well. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...953a34f-me.jpg Towel for paint protection http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...66878e0-me.jpg Minutes later the header is off. I a so happy I decided to do shorty headers with a downpipe. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...835ac90-me.jpg Wire Off !! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...17d1941-me.jpg Optima battery is back in the car and powering up the AAW body harness. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c9a4909-me.jpg AAW provides three additional power sources that you can easily tap into. I just needed to confirm which one I need to use. Top - Battery Constant Middle - Ignition On Battery Constant - No Juice while Cranking. Bottom - Ignition On Battery Constant - Hot while Cranking http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...82826c5-me.jpg I am going to keep it simple and just install a spade terminal and call it a day. However I am going to try to keep it very clean looking. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8f0636b-me.jpg Sorry for the blurry picture. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b98b95f-me.jpg I also connected the last two wires that needed an ignition on circuit. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...65f673d-me.jpg Purple wire back on and don't forget to remove the port cover. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9034918-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...652b8ab-me.jpg I feel like I have an intimate relationship with this hardware as this header has been off so many times. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...80470f7-me.jpg Battery disconnected and calling it a night and going for a walk with Remy http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a377a5f-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...17f892a-me.jpg |
Few more wires and Trans Coolant Lines are Tight (( 10-16-22 ))
Another while I am here I redid the ''Red'' Hot Wire for the Vintage Air Unit as I didn't like how it looked. It now runs neatly
above the opening into the cowl. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2e8cab3-me.jpg I reached out to Andrew (( Holley EFI Tuner and all around nice guy )) and he told me what I would need to get so he could remote in during start up and make sure everything is good. He will also be tweaking the tune once I get the car drive able. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...767a973-me.jpg These will be the last two wire that I connect to the Holley EFI http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...83c293a-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a577157-me.jpg I also went around tightening all of the Transmission coolant lines fittings. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9fb28a1-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ea5957b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9fb3b8c-me.jpg I am finally caught up on my posts. |
Kore3 Brakes - Banjo Bolt (( 10-22-22 ))
Okay guys I need your help.
Help Please For some reason I am unable to get this line to stop leaking and I have replaced both crush washers and it still leaks. Anyone have any suggestions. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6a44503-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...768303c-me.jpg Mike I began the bleeding of the power steering and we accidently put in a little to much power steering fluid. Opps. A quick trip to Home Goods to get a $5.00 problem saver http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a6ccbc7-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f5e175a-me.jpg I also lubed all of the O Rings and tighten all of the outside vintage air fittings. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4910b0e-me.jpg My custom modified open end wrench http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...53799c6-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5a0bf1a-me.jpg This picture is for Skip http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...abfb40d-me.jpg |
I don't have much input for leaking banjo bolts. I did have a couple of brake line coupler fittings that I thought I had tight enough, but still slowly leaked. A little more muscle and they were good to go.

Passenger Side Banjo Bolt Leak (( 10-27 -22 ))
It looks like I figured it out and apparently the line is hitting the caliper before the banjo bolt can be tighten down all the way.
Here is a picture of the Drivers Side and it doesn't leak. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d59d2f7-me.jpg Here is the Passenger side and you can see it is resting on the caliper body. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8bfd750-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a4c6413-me.jpg Once again this line is coming off and being bagged. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fc340db-me.jpg Back to my Grandfathers vise. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...711e4e9-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d063759-me.jpg 2nd Attempt as the 1st one was not successful. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f3ae95d-me.jpg Looks like it's going to work. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b712983-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8202659-me.jpg Line is back on and I will try to bleed the brakes again tomorrow. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ef0f44f-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3546558-me.jpg |

The brakes are from Tobin at Kore3. It’s a c5 / c6 kit with the DSE Corvette Reduced angle brake booster. It like having modern factory brakes on an old car. One of the other benefits is if I break down on the side of the road, I can go to Napa or AutoZone or any other local auto parts stores. I’ll be back on the road. Sorry, I just added pictures |
It looks good to go as far as room.

Marty,
Thank you for the response with pics. Have you driven the car with the OEM brakes vs. the C5/6 brakes? If so, what are your thoughts of this modification? I’ve been eyeballing Kore3 brakes for a while Thanks again |
Quote:
I did not drive my car with the original brakes as my car was only a roller when I purchased it. However, I have driven my buddy's late 2nd Gen with factory Disk/Drum set up and I was amazed at the difference. My car actually stops just like a new car. His car felt like I was driving an old car with crappy brakes. You can't go wrong with the Kore3 stuff just make sure you buy the DSE Brake Booster set up and you will have tons of fun accelerating into a corners with ample braking prior to the corner. |
