Sweet...
Welcome Kris and Auto-meter !! Are you kidding me !?!! Its partially your company's fault for what it is what I do for a living. And then you tease with talk of a 'custom' shop. You bastards. Outstanding integration of the embedded/programmable warning light BTW. That really reduces the need for more (and unnecessary) transducers and associated wiring. Ahhh... technology is a beautiful thing. Quote:
I'm currently at 18. But then again... I'm an Instrumentation Engineer/junkie... so its not quite fair. I started out with Sport-Comp, then replaced them with Pro-Comp Liquid Filled... and now its Full Sweep electric Ultra-Lite's. It's a habbit I dont recommend for most... |

Over the $35,000 1400 HP Engine of course are the Billet $700 Hood Hinges that look so cool, topped off of course with a Full Carbon Fiber $1400 Hood. The same car has seating for 4 and nice big Sterio System with 1000 watts of Power and 12 Speakers. The billet Door latches, the billet rear light fixtures complete the car.......... till you get your next Pay check. The point is, they would be cool, different and absolutely necessary for your first run up of many, with all the Bugatti Verons your likely to encounter while traveling through Lubbock, Texas at 3:00 am. Two many cars can do 200 MPH and that gauge is now passe. 240 mph, now that is something different, that would make the correct statement in the cockpit of your $120,000 1969 Camaro. The reason I would buy one is, for Sh*ts, Giggles and have a cool gauge n one else has. You need to have a speedo that says at least the number of the worlds fastest production car. I know I've been a Smart Ass, all I've tried to say is, it would be the biggest, latest and greatest, and if i was going to spend $3000+ on gauges for my car I'd buy one of them two because it would be cool. I know 60 mph would look like school zone range on the gauge regarding the actual sweep, but it would be a cool thing to tide us over until Auto Meter could give us "Heads Up Display", and a 300 MPH Speedo. The Next Auto Meter Buzz Word, "Heads Up Display", for first generation Camaro's. Now we can start this conversation all over again after I phone my order in for the first one. ;-) Ty |
People that go that speed won't be looking at their speedo's...

Then I guess its time to just step up to a MACH meter then...

I guess what I was getting at is that if you're traveling at 240mph, you're going 352 ft/sec... that's the distance of a football field in 852 milliseconds. :faint:

Kris, maybe you have this already, not sure... but it would be cool if you could have multiple sending units hooked to one gauge and be able to switch between inputs. Like say, if you had oil temp, trans temp and rear end temp and with a push of a button, you could toggle between inputs A, B and C.

Chicane,
Thanks for the kind words. Suppose I shouldn't point you in the direction of the Full Sweep Electric Ultra-Lites with Peak & Warning functions that the NASCAR teams are using right now then huh? :D Ty & Bowtie, Thanks for the additional input on the high mile per hour speedos. I've been keeping our product development team up to speed on the discussion here. Scott, Regarding the toggling between sensors, we have in the past done similar things with EGT and Intake temperature gauges (both of which curiously enough did not sell very well and were subsequently discontinued). :( For the situation you've described with the Oil, Diff, and Trans temp the switching that you're talking about is possible. Our Tech group has a Diff temp installation scheduled for a Jeep for front and rear axles, and we'll be doing a write up on the installation process and wiring for our website. I'd be happy to pass along a link when it becomes available. We've got a few more pressing projects in front of it though, so it might be a while. I'd be happy to put you in touch with one of our techs if you have specific questions in that area. While I'm at it, I'm going to take the opportunity to plug the new Install Tips & Guides section of our site where we're answering some of the more common and in depth product install questions that we receive. We're always looking for new ideas, so if you have questions you'd like to see answered there, send them my way. |
