DOUG COOPER
just put thuis up on PT

I just got off the phone with Travis.

Kenny had just woken up and started talking... one of the first things he asked was how the crawler he turned over was? asked for his daughter... and was just carrying on [a conversation] as normal. that's great news!

The doctors biggest concerns associated with the head injury are, additional swelling of the brain and infection.
They had to rebuild one of his eye sockets and he isn't able to open that eye at this time. The doctors felt he would have his vision in that eye.

He was also able to move all his LIMBS!

They are doing another cat scan later today I will keep you informed.

Kenny's a great guy and we're all pullin' for him. I went back through the archives and found our '07 radio and video interviews with him while the KDHR team was building the ZL1 Camaro for SEMA... for those who have never met the man, you can get a feel for his genuine enthusiasm and talent in these stories. We pray for a speedy and full recovery.

Very sad news! It is good to hear that he is awake and knows where he is.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Kenny, family, and crew.

Was there anyone else in the crawler?

OMG, wow, that's awful news but sounds like things are starting to look a little brighter....relatively speaking. We wish he and his fam all the best and we'll keep him in our thoughts!

A post from someone that was there when the accident happened...

"There was a group of us playing/warming up the rigs at Disney below the west dam and Kenny’s rig developed a vacuum leak. At that time he and another buddy jumped in someone else’s buggy (Kenny Driving) to run to napa to get a part. They were going at very slow speed and not crawling in the sense of the word. At the time of the roll we were down in the bottom by the rock garden and did not see it happen, I don’t think anyone did. I am sure Kenny did not think he needed his belt as he was in a very well built rig and just going from a to b. It took about 20 min for the local ambulance to arrive and another 30 of so for life flight.

All things considered the doctors have been optimistic from the beginning and he was talking right up until the time he went to the OR. Actually he yelled, in true KD fashion, that he was going to be fine and not to worry.

Kenny has only been into crawling for a short time, but has already brought a lot to the sport. He is very proud of the Campbell buggy he rebuilt and has done some great work on all of our rigs. He is one of those guys that doesn’t know a stranger and gets along with everyone, better be able to take a joke!! He is one of a kind!!

I am sure Kenny would tell us all to buckle in no matter what so let’s try to keep the vibe positive in this thread. I will be going to Tulsa every chance I get till he comes home so I will take all your prayers and well washings to Kenny and his family.

On their behalf thank you for the support."

I just called Travis and he was in the room and put me on speakerphone with Kenny. He was groggy but very aware, cognitive and positive.

Here's the hospital address to send him whatever you think a guy stuck in the hospital for 3 weeks might need. Cards, magazines, books, flowers for his wife to look at since she'll be there too, books, candy, etc.

St John Hospital
1923 South Utica
Tulsa, OK 74104

We're all thinking about you, Brother...

It's been a while since I've been here but I am sorry to hear about Kenny. Our prayers go out to him and his family.
