As a customer, it's best to answer your initial question with a question--sorry. Here goes: What are your performance goals for the car? Many customers enter the process with vague and or unrealistic performance goals. "I want it to handle like it's on rails" is not a well defined goal. Pick a benchmark OE performance vehicle for comparison. Be sure to pick benchmark vehicle that matches your budget. Or if you have technical experience, set specific parameters.
Then--ask the Ring Brothers if they can meet those expectations. The Ring Brothers are professionals. They will confirm and/or help you refine your goals.
Hopefully your goals EXCEED their capabilities. That might sound weird, but every good builder SEEKS challenge, if budget exists. Good builders strive to make their next build to be better than the last. For example, Rad Rides is surely better off for tackling the Blowfish land speed project. Experience gained from that race car trickles down to future cars.
Same holds true for the Ring Brothers. All of their cars are nice, but you can plainly see a progression from older builds.

Clearly define your goals. If they commit, then it all boils down their track record for professionalism.

The Journey
 

Well here goes! You all have been great and then some of you and you know who you are like to bite before you bark. Ha ha

The question was honest since when you’re building a car to this level, you’re always wanting the best for your buck and imagination.

It all Started about a Year ago with my 66 Fastback. Jayne & I wanted to have a sweet car built but we’re so new to it all. We got honeymooned into this local shop that said all the right things.

After 6 Months & 100k including car, parts, & labor we realized all but a little late that we were being taken down the garden path of despair.

Now I’m not a fool, don’t let my name fool ya. Ha ha. I did research and even more research, but when we saw the work was not up to the standards we agreed to and the time it was taking we needed to act and act fast.

We discussed our options, and jokingly I said “Wouldn’t it be cool to call Ring Brothers and see if they could take on our project?” Now I have been following their work over the past Years with amazement. Of course, never thinking we would ever build a car to that level.

Jim Ring of Ring Brothers answered the phone. Wow, very nice guy & he seemed truly excited to take on the project.

So in short & within a week the car was removed parts & all from the local shop and delivered to Wisconsin all the way from Arizona.

I was not expecting this call, since being so fired up that Ring Brothers were going to help make our dreams become reality.

First, Staci emailed me and said the 66 arrived and all is not good, Jim will call you. What in the world could be wrong?

Jim & Mike called us with news that hit us in the face with a 50 pound sledge hammer.

The car had been destroyed by the last shop and it would take more money to repair than it would to just buy another car and start fresh.

Wow, can you feel it? I still do. I talked to my buddy that hauled the car there in his race trailer. Leroy said it was true! ****!

So we talked with the guys looking for options. Leroy brought the car back to AZ.

Little history- My first car was a 67 Fastback my Grama bought new & gifted to me at 16. Within 6 Months I had 5 speeding tickets and license was revoked…oh yea I like speed so I joined the AF and worked on Fighter Aircraft for over 20 Years.

We all have stories about the car we should have kept, mines no different.

We always wanted a 65/66 & 69/70 era Mustang. So when the guys at Ring Brothers said they had a 70’ there that has not been touched it all started to take shape.

So we purchased it and the rest will be a very interesting journey.

As for performance I have driven BMW’s for 22 Years. So handling has to be solid. I drive M5’s with V10’s 500 HP all the time so power had to be a no brainier. But looks, now that is were the Mustang comes in and Ring Brothers. We want it all and yes there is a budget.

So Ring Brothers is building our dream car that will be a show stopper and a driver. I know now from all your input this is the path we were meant to be on. It has been a long journey & expensive.

As for the 66 we still have it and it will become my Weekend true track car, one that I can take all my frustrations out in from a busy life & awful interstate traffic.

We all know Ring Brothers can take three in a row! But, will it be the 70 Stang? Can it be taken to that level and keep within a budget? Time will tell.

I can say how ever it turns out, Jayne & I could not be happier with Ring Brothers.

Just read this thread, brilliant. You went fishing and caught some big ones.
Congrats on your new build and sorry about your old one but in the end you will be much better off. The Ring Brother are super nice guys.
