When we were returning from the Sandhills Open Road Challenge in Nebraska (awesome event, btw..www.sorcrace.com), we stopped for breakfast/fuel at a Sapp Bros. truck stop (highly recommended for breakfast, by the way...). While my partner was filling up the tank, I went to have a smoke by the front door of the restaurant. This particular raggedy ass piece of white trash joined me, and as the wagon rolled by on the trailer, he saw it with the race numbers affixed to the doors and said "Well, I guess they're gonna demo derby it. Too bad- its in pretty good shape..."

I know you can't technically spit up cigarette smoke, but that's pretty much what I did...

That might be the best one yet!

Used to get "Nice Charger or what is it?" Tell them it is a 69 Mercury Cougar XR7 and some youger idiot will sometimes say that Mazda made the RX7 and it is too big to be a Mazda.

In reference to my white with a blue stripe, 1970 Trans Am, I often get:

'Is that a '76?'

Or taking it up a notch, 'is that the same car from Smokey and the Bandit?' I ask, seriously?

But my favourite at a local show (I don't attend show and shines anymore, I wonder why), as I'm talking to my brother in law these two guys are crouched and giving real attention to my car and the one dude says (referring to the wheel spats), 'it looks like he got those things from Canadian Tire'. I had to be restrained lol.

I was driving my '69 bird down the freeway last year on the way to work. Some guy rolls up next to me with his window down...."Is that the new Challenger?"

I guess the chrome bumpers were the dead giveaway!

In my 66 Mustang Fastback all the time I get "Is it an Eleanor?" or "Is that the same as the one in Bullitt?"

Recently some kid stopped me and asked "What year is it?" I said 66, he says "Oh too bad, my favourite is 67. Have you seen Eleanor?"

Unfortunately with it being a mustang, I think I'm gunna these comments forever.

As those of you that have attended car shows know, there is always the group three old guys cruising around together. One guy doesn't know anything and asks questions, the second guy knows everything about everyones car, and the third guy is generally quiet. Now at shows, these three guys always descend on each car. the first always asks what's under the hood, etc, the second guy always answers, and third just nods in agreement. Last show I went to I encountered several of such groups. That day I found out I had a 502 Ramjet instead of an LS2. I also learned I had a "Hotchkis like Camaro," which I later learned was a 67, not a 69. Still, nothing too outragous. I'm willing forgive those simple errors. I just feel bad for you Mustang guys with "Eleanors" and rusty Corvettes.

A few years back, I pulled into a gas station with my AMX on my way home from a show-n-shine. Young kid walks over and says, "Hey man, cool car, what is it?" I tell him it's a 69 AMX, he says "oh, I thought it was a Mustang. Who makes the AMX?" I tell him American Motors and he says "I know it's American, but who makes it?"
