I would think building a PT car with good road manners would be much easier than building a Bronco like that for a DD. Very cool.

Hey look ...some updates. Had some time to get a few things done on the car. Got to work on the seat and rad mounts. Designed and built the hood hinges and started the fender mounts. Did a little more work on the pedal arrangment. Shortened the front fenders 2" over the tire which will translate to less front overhang. Also took another inch out of the front corner of the fender and got the engine bay vents sculpted and fabbed in. Still need to fab the wheel opening lip for all four corners, plus a million other things.

I think the next thing will be constructing the hood out of fiberglass. I could buy one but none of the ones available suit the plan, so I will have to make it. The rear quarter extensions will also need to have a mold pulled off them to turn them into fiberglass.

Check out the pics.

Gary

Glad to see you back at the car. How's the progress on those headers?

What's the plan for the grille and bumper up front? Talladega style?

Your progress looks good. Nice work!

Looking good. Glad to see you making progress. Will you put a grill on the back side of the vents like Trans Ams have or is the plan to leave it open?

Thanks for the compliments. Seeing everyone elses progress is a big motivation.
It sucks not having time to work on it and with so many other things changing for me I 'm not sure how much I will be able to work on it. Just have to do what I can.

I have not started the headers yet, I still have to order the materials.
The grille will be stock ,but instead of flush mount like a talledega, I will set it back a couple of inches. I think I will trim the bumpers down and make them thinner so I can use a valance panel which will be a splitter as well.
The side vents and air intake scoops will have a screen in the openings.

Nice to see you at it Gary. Get that Honeydew list cleaned up and you will be on your way! :unibrow:

I didn't think being out of work would be so time consuming. I have been helping build a car for the Detroit Autorama Ridler Award. Between doing that project and taking care of other things my Torino project has been shoved into my spare garage. I do work on it but I can only get in small amounts of time to play. On one of my U.S. roadtrips recently I stopped by Summit in Reno and picked up a Vintage air system. I want this car to be comfortable on long roadtrips south in the heat of summer. I began the dash fabrication with the panel vent pods. The vents are from a Ford Flex, I think. I made the pods from fiberglass. The stock dash in a Torino doesn't appeal to me so that will be custom fabbed , also from fiberglass. I have one header completed and the other is about 1/3 done. I also got started on the custom hood. Took a blank off the stock hood inner and outer and will use the cowl hood section that I cut off a mustang hood. The back of the cowl will be closed and the air intake will be on the front edge. I made the wooden buck in which I can hammer form the four fender lips in. I just picked up a shrinker/stretcher and once its mounted I can make the fender lips.
Now, after typing this out with my hi tech two finger style, it does look like have done something on the car.

(the pic of the header won't upload, I will take some new ones and upload later)

This is a pretty cool project! I always wanted to do one of these Torinos. Like the ideas man! And a fellow Canuk to boot?
