Time for some details.

Glovebox
So we decided a while back to take 2 glove boxes and ditch the speaker grille in the middle and make the glove box go all the way across. Plus we thought when chromed it would pop. We we got the glove box roughed in an Steel, then sent the glove box and speaker grille cover to our own Lat-g super hero, Bob Braga.

Bob digitally scanned the parts and then made the outside face perfectly flat while keeping the fit of the parts we sent him intacked. We then sent that Solidworks file to my machine shop. I kid you not, 1 week later we had these in our hands to fit before chrome.

Then we fit them them to the truck before chrome.

Here we are yesterday, holding up the chromed speaker grille cover. We are waiting for the glove box still.

The hood emblem

Well we decided there was no way the stock emblem was going to still fit the hood on this truck. So we took the stock emblem mounted it to the hood and then used bondo to fit it properly to the hood. Notice how the stock emblem did not even have the "R" in the center of the emblem. That right would have drove me crazy.

We did the same thing by sending the part to Bob again. And 1 week later I'm sitting here at the shop wait for UPS with a Saturday delivery.

This piece in Chrome will be mind blowing.

Thanks for the work Rodger. Can't wait to see this truck at SEMA.
Parts were sent to me. I laser scanned them and then reverse engineered the part in CAD. Made some custom changes that Roger wanted to add. Sent the files to his machine shop.
I can't believe he machined this stuff so fast for you. Hurry up and fit it to the hood I want to see how it fits.

Well the door handles look stock. But they are not. The 48 had twist down door handles. We changed it to the push button 1954 models. But since we are using Modern Gm latches, we needed an electric handle. So we took these stock handles, found a switches to fit inside machined a new push button to that was shorter. So now the stock handles are electric. They can be turned off and on with the ISIS system. No need for locking mechanism. But the interior handle is still mechanical.

Here is what a lengthened door that is done to look stock would look like. This door has been sectioned 1.75", it has been lengthened 3", and the top was chopped 1.5". it took 4 doors to be able to make each door and have all the factory seams line up to look OEM.

It's not here for Saturday delivery from UPS and the truck is being assembled 2 hours from the shop. We will fit them on Monday.

Wow. That emblem is insane!

I stopped by on Friday afternoon. It's looking great. If I can I'll come by later this coming week to tune the controller after you guys order a part to check fuel pressure (they know which part.)

GregWeld 10-08-2011 06:31 PM

Hey Bob! See what those little Weld emblems started!! LOL

This truck is just super cool....

BTW --- I would have warped those doors so badly that it would have taken 4 more of them just to get it to where they only needed a half inch of bondo!

EEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAA

Thanks guys. I'm really happy with the results. Frank has let pull out all the stops on his OL pickup.
