I always try to tell the customer or friend it's like winning the lottery if a bolt on part bolts on.

Just read the bottom of the card. Ben on there since day one:wow:

Hellooooooo Nurse!

Im glad to hear you seasoned pros are experiencing the same issues I have. It really makes me feel better.

Im really worried about my new drop spindles I have on order. My large brakes would not fit so I sent them in for the hot-rodding treatment. (they're brakes and spindles... Im not equiped to take those kind chances) Hopefully they'll come back to me as a simple "bolt them on, bleed and go" kind of item. Lets just say, I've knocked on every piece of wood I come across.

I've had a couple of those days recently. After 5.5 years and a couple shops my 63 vette was finally delivered May 26th. I put about 30 miles on the car Memorial day weekend and noticed the speedo wasn't calibrated, no worries, just added it to my punch list.

I had an appointment with my local stereo shop for final wiring and tuning of the sound system a couple days later... and that's when the gremlins showed up in force. After spending a few hours in the office, I scramble home to take the vette in. I go to start the car and there was nothing but clicking. I'm a little hot under the collar, call the stereo shop and tell them I will be 10 minutes late. Put the car on the charger and wait. I finally get the car started and head over to the shop. I round a corner on the drive over and I hear a clunk from under the car. Make a mental note to add that to my growing punch list.

I'm 15 minutes late (I hate being late to anything), but the guys were really cool about it and they have me drive the car directly into their nice clean shop. They took a look at the car and decided they would need more than an hour to clean up all the wiring and tune the system. No problem, I didn't tell them how elaborate the setup was. We rescheduled for the following Monday. By this time, there's a small crowd checking out my car. I start the car and begin backing out of the shop, when all the sudden there is a pop from under the hood. Holy crap! I immediately shut down the car, but not before my car puked out the remaining drops of power steering fluid on their shop floor (not to mention my freshly detailed engine compartment). Spent an hour helping the guys clean up their floor and reinstalling the hose to the rack. Added high pressure fittings to my punch list. Embarrassed, I get the car out of their shop and head home with my tail between my legs.

On the drive home I noticed it was a little tough getting it into third, but it was easier if I pumped the pedal. That's odd. Got a little forearm workout on the way home without the power steering. I thought I heard my car laughing, but I'm pretty sure it was the kid in the honda next to me revving his engine. Cars can't laugh right?

As I am trying to back the car into the driveway for cleanup, I can't get the car in reverse. I try pumping the clutch, nope. Turn the car off, put it in reverse and back into the driveway. Hydraulic leak, added to punch list. Pull the emergency brake, step out of the car and close the door. I heard another pop and saw something hit the window and land on the dash. The button on the emergency brake flew off. Seriously, WTF? Took me an hour to clean up the engine bay and by the time I was done, I was kinda laughing. Who am I to expect perfection after only 5.5 years of restoration. I called my mechanic and told him to come pick up the car.

After 5 weeks, they fixed most of the items on my punch list and delivered the car to me this morning. The fun continues... 1) I still need to get the speedometer fixed. They shipped it off to a local gauge repair shop, over 2 weeks later the guys tells us that he can't fix it. My patience ran out and I told my mechanic to reinstall the speedo and I'll deal with it later. 2) After delivering the car, they tell me that they broke the arm off my original clock when setting it this morning. I'll get that fixed with the speedo this winter. 3) The hood needs to be adjusted a little better, no biggie. 4) My wiper arms are on my floorboard, they forgot to install before delivering the car. 5) They finished polishing the car this morning and did a quick wash on the trailer. That process is messy, looks like I'll be cleaning water spots and wax dust tonight. 6) I noticed a wet spot on the trailer about where my previous hydraulic leak was. I'm hoping it was the car dripping water from the morning bath. I will check my garage floor in a couple hours.

Looking forward to cleaning the car up tonight so I can attend Campbell Auto Restoration's open house tomorrow. So glad they are only 10 minutes from my house. I'll be talking to Steve tomorrow about my new punch list.
Happy friday!
