Brian, as the awards were wrapping up Steve was hanging around the back of the group and I walked up and put my arm around him and spoke softly in his ear - it just doesn't get any better than this does it? At that point the tears started to flow a little and with a trembling voice he replied - no it doesn't. Proud would be an understatement. I don't think you could give your father a better gift than this victory in his sunsetting years. Congratulations

After I watched the drive video, I had a feeling Brian would win it. It's one of those Cinderella stories that just fits. Big congrats to you and your Father, Brian. :)

Congrats to EVERYONE that had a car there and competed. I was really surprised at how big of an event it really was.

To be honest, we were just hoping to be invited, much less place 14th. We may have scored big in design points, but we don't have any ties to any one at that event. We were actually just lucky enough to have a helmet in the truck and trailer or we wouldn't have been able to even drive the thing.

Since this was the first time on a track for the Mustang, it gave us a shot and finding some bugs that we'll work out soon. A fuel pump issue kept us from scoring any real points, but we didn't let that stop us from at least trying. We ran and finished every event.

Great place for a little shake down! Loved the Mustang and it was fun to see you guys going for all you could.

Thanks to all the guys from Lateral-G. It was my pleasure hanging out with you guys during SEMA, the Lateral-G party, and OUSCI.

As most seem to know, I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity my Father gave me to get into cars at an early age (6 years old) and start autocrossing as soon as I turned 16. It has been over 28 years of autocrossing with my dad with our Corvette. When we got the car in 1983, our autocross class was the beginning of our 'Pro-Touring" movement. The class was old muscle cars and Corvettes that were allowed only carburation and Fuel Injection upgrades, exhaust, spring and shock changes, flares, wheels and tires changes. Suspension geometry could not change, full interiors had to remain, and nothing could be removed to lighten the car. For the most part, my Corvette has not changed since 1983. The engine has more power, but only about 525 hp at the crank. The paint was freshened up and trim blacked out for a new look. The biggest changes are the wheels, brakes, tires, and JRI Shocks.

I have been fairly successful over the years autocrossing the car. When the OUSCI came around, I thought it woud be cool to compete with the Corvette. I was in the process of building my Camaro and it turned out that the Camaro got a good head of steam and it went to OUSCI in 2011 and 2012 where I finished 3rd and 2nd. After last year, I got the urge to get the Corvette ready for this years OUSCI and hope to get in. Wilwood Disc Brakes brought me back to represent them for a third year in a row. We upgraded the brakes and added Falken Tires and JRI Shocks to the car. The car leaped forward to a new level. Mike Maier helped me out a lot with set up of the shocks and springs. (Sorry guys, but no one else is getting our set up.) :D

The last 30 years has been an accumilation of hard work, lots of money, time away from family, and frustration. But, it took all of that to be able to spend countless time with my Dad to build, maintain, and develope an ultra cool Corvette that has brought some of the best memories any guy could ever hope to have. Friendships from my autocross community and now my new friends I have found over the last few years with OUSCI, ASCS, Goodguys Autocrosses and the forums are all because of this car. So if I get a bit chocked up sometimes, it is because all of this hits can me at once.

This win is very special to me and my Dad. I am glad so many of you were able to share it with us.

Brian

Great Job Brian. You "earned" it on the track.

Rybar 11-11-2013 06:52 PM

Congrats Brian! Vette is badass. You deserved it, you've worked very hard over the years with both cars.
