Very nice build... I'm digging the way this is coming together. Please keep posting the progress pics.

There is so much I could have shared, this is really just a quick overview. The minutia of it all I wasn't sure people would want to see. |
After getting the car back on four wheels and seeing it outside I couldn't wait to hang the nose and stand back once more.
Here is what I saw for the first time……. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps1053e73e.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps11e3a896.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psaed7bbe4.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psad1ea57f.jpg |
A few days later when the weather cooperated I was able to push it back outside and see how it looks assembled.
I Like it!!! I also took some time to play with stripe ideas. My original plan was a Boss 302 hockey stick style stripe. But as I have been building this car that design has been used over and over agin, even on new cars. Ford is even using it now on the new trucks, doesn't make it very original at all now does it?! So here I am playing with a stripe design somewhat reminiscent of the the Must GT/Shelby's had. I of course don;t want to copy that, so I have not only extended them from the front valance all the way into the rear quarters. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pse0a748e6.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps8f1c9fc4.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps12e7d5d1.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps2d37a7a2.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps262d029b.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psf3602739.jpg The hood will also have my take on the factory Grabber stripe seen here in tape. I plan on also running them up onto the top of the dash as well just for the sake of doing it. Unsure if I will go with one solid stripe like this first one, or on the second U shape like seen below. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps68086148.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psf7cfd3fd.jpg |
This now brings us completely up to date. My hope was to finish up the body work and get it painted this winter, but since I haven't been in the garage since Christmas I can see that isn;t going to happen. I have been sick for a month with a cold that turned into a major case of Bronchitis. I am just now getting better. Hopefully color soon.
Any thoughts on my build? I like to hear what you guys think, both the good and the bad. I know this may not be the style or type of build most of you would do. It's just my take on a "what if" someone really decided to fine tune the unloved Maverick. Thanks for following along. Glenn |
This is a great looking build. Love this car.
Have one small comment you may want to take into consideration. I would suggest you smooth the top bar of the rad support if you have not already done so. Ask me how I know. I missed a small detail like this on my car and it looks me right in the face every time I open the hood. Good luck and looking forward to seeing the completed car. Neil B |
Wow...this is really, really, really cool. Excellent work, cant wait to see more !!

allot of attention to detail. I hot rodded a 70 once but was unable to complete it due to a divorce.
I hope you dont mind but I would love to copy your inner fender design on my Daughters 63 Fairlane. You are correct the R&C panels leave allot to be desired. Joe http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psce19c6b4.jpg |

I think that when you are on the road driving and enjoying what you accomplished so far, the reward from that is what some never feel. Remember, there is always the 2.0 2.5.3.0 and on, plus it will give you some behind the wheel evaluation on what you want to change and move up on, keep up the great work. I had a 71 Maverick back 30 years ago, fun and aggressive cars to work on. |
