We really tried to get out there and mix it up. There's a completely different setup for most types of events. Going from landspeed to track can take 3 weeks (it's a small crew and a working shop). For instance, we have multiple locations that we add lead ballast...about 1400 lbs total for Bonneville. Thanks for watching and for your support! |
Saw episode 3 last night about the Texas mile. Another great show.
As that was shot in 2011, have you returned there? (Maybe that is a future episode...) Looking forward to more... Bill |
What I like about the show it the honesty.
All of us hacks out here working alone in our garage look at the cars in the magazines like Big Red and think how easy it must be with all that help to engineer and construct a great car. Then you watch the show, and a Transmission breaks - twice, then you see an engine dyno resulting in less than ideal results. There is some comfort that even with high level cars like Big Red, problems still kick you in the ass and all you can do is work through it without drama just like we do. I’m not even a Camaro fan and I’ve been a fan of Big Red from the beginning because to me it represents an amazingly well built, and hard driven hot rod. Even better that it was built in the 80’s and brought out of mothballs to still kick some tail.:warning: |

yep! cool to see behind the curtain |
Excellent work on these shows. In the past, I've had the opportunity to participate in the Silver State, Texas Mile, and events at Willow Springs. This TV series with Big Red at these venues portrays a true grassroots racing perspective on what it is really like to run these events. It's almost like being there (without all the work). It has been a great trip down memory road for me.

This series is right on the mark so far. The right amount of REALITY injected and a great mix of the people and the car and events themselves.
I got my wife to watch this 3rd episode with me and she enjoyed it more than she figured she would. She kept saying "Put in the MONSTER!" towards the end. I must say I was in agreement with her. :D RJ, how far out do you guys plan your schedule of events to attend? |
RJ,
I agree with all the positive comments about the show, great work! As a car guy for over 50+ years this is exactly the kind of car show that I want to watch with no gratuitous drama. One thing I'm curious about is have you considered installing a T56 Magnum in Big Red? I can tell you that after switching Dust Off to a T56 Magnum I now see just how limiting a four speed really is. The 6 speed gives you so many more options for rear end gearing. I would think the two overdrive gears would be the hot ticket for all of those high speed events. |
