My $.02 is go big! 499cid with a huge single turbo say like a 101 - 106mm. Those things are like the size of a 5 gal bucket. You can run it down around the 10psi mark and make you 1k hp and then if you want turn it up a little an make more. Everyone does small block LSX based twin turbo setups. I want to see something different for a change...

Right now he's talkin a 499 and wants to push the 2k mark,I said ok I'll will figure out how to build. I was looking at his car this afternoon, and a single turbo mounted in front of the rad, right behind the grille would work out good, rather than try to tuck 2 turbos down on each side of the block, this would also not bother the ac and stuff.should be fun.if I get his working good I'm going to build a turbo set-up. I would like to build a 2000-2200hp street car. |

well if money is no object i guess a 700 cui all aluminum big block with turbos sounds sick enough to sattisfy anyone... perhaps some big chief- or arias hemi- heads and dual ball bearing 101+ mm turbos... nitrous to hit the turbos untill the boost hits 10+ pounds.. but my question os why? it will be totally useless on the street, anything more that 1/4 throttle will instantly roast the tires, and what transmission is going to take that kind of abuse..
just 800 horsepower in a street car is suicide if you try and push it to the limits... 1000 rwhp.. i sincerely doubt anyone can controll it at 100% full throttle, full breaking driving for any length of time.. but 2k hp thats just retarded.. it will be a full time drift excersise.. but the project sure sounds fun, unless you are actually either paying for it, or driving it at full throttle... thats my 2 cents i mean the name of the thread is: "turbos for the street" and not: "engineers on crack" !?! |
FWIW, There are a ton of people on here trying to help out, including myself. Many of us have vast knowledge in motor and turbo setups that actually work.
Untill this friend of yours can come up with a solid goal, I would forget about asking for help on this matter as all of the above info has so far been usless to him. I have over 800 RWHP in a REAL street car, and can say that I can spin 12" wide rear road race slicks at up to about 120 mph at will. So like Cody is saying, it will all be useless in a real street car. Dont forget this is only a 347" on 93 octane. There is no need for more. It will save both your and our time in trying to make a good combo. ;) |
my point exactly!

No it's not a pro mod deal,it's a pro street car, tube chassis with c-4 vette front/9 inch four link, full cage, etc it's not a pro style chassis, kind hard to explain. I don't see where a 2k hp car would be that hard to drive or any harder than say driving a 1k hp car,exp with turbos because at around town cruising it will be at lower boost, would be easier than a 1k nitrous motor on the street,I ran my 37 ford with a 1100hp the street it was to painfull just took alitte common sense with it. Anyway I am still not sure about this whole deal,I'm looking for it in the 1300hp bracket. |
