Yep, everything has been thouroughly cleaned, inspected, cleaned and redone. The oil pump has been rebuilt, ported and double checked.

The oil pan has been tanked, scrubbed and checked over.

The factory oil pump seemed a little wacked. the valve was sticky. Hard to know for sure at this point. I will send the cam to COMP so they can check it out.

We may never know what happened but we are going on the principle of "replacing everything it could have been" :)

Hey, it's a learning experience and will make getting the car done that much sweeter. (I tell myself that as part of my therapy.. lol )

Now that I know how easy it is to pull the engine I'm thinking that a little FI might be in order down the line to "liven things up" :unibrow:

Dad to hear, sounds like a very dry start. Any warranty from GM on a new LS2? Probably was damaged on the intial fire. Too tight tolerances will kill one. Of all the issues I am hearing with GM crate motors I am growing less fond of them.

Wow...I can't believe just a little bit of low oil pressure can chew the hell out of a crankshaft like that. Sorry to hear that, Steve. But that's hotroddin' for ya. Two steps forward, five steps back. I'll be watching my oil system closely on my LS1 as a result of this.

I don't think the warranty applies if you swap heads, cam and intake then dyno flog it.. lol -- sorta hard to blame GM.

We had TONS of oil pressure on the engine dyno. Then again all it takes is one pull where it drops. Engines blow up, it's in there nature. The whole process of an engine working is extremely violent if you think about it, it's nearly amazing that they work as well as they do.

Should have the engine back together today and back in the car tomorrow. In a month it will just be a "funny story" that I can tell when I'm out cruising around the Camaro.

Didn't remember the dyno. Was anything changed or modified on the motor from dyno to car? Like the oil pan where pump depth might have been altered?

Holy moly!!!! That'll get your attention. I'm guessing that you didn't ahve the ability to tank the block out, i.e. boil the heck out of all of the galleys, etc? I'd be checking the break-in oil big time if you didn't have the op' to tank it all out. Run it, change it, run it, change it....

The block was steam cleaned at the shop next door, cleaned some more then steamed again. Every part was cleaned and re-cleaned. We will run some dino oil through it on start up then then drain and refill.

I did name her BAD Penny.. I guess she's earning it. lol

We added an f-body oil pan, pick-up tube and windage tray. I guess there could have been some sort of contamination. We did clean it good though.

Could of a been a problem that started on the dyno and got worse, hard to say.

OH ****!!!!! WTF??? How did this happen?? Sorry to hear about this! Was there some sort of contamination when you installed the cam? Oil galley blocked?
