GM's MSRP on the ZR1 brake components is $12,183

Gene Culley is currently quoting $8,999

This includes four calipers, four rotors, 4 sets of brake pads.. (ZR1's are 1 set of brake pads per wheel, and the calipers and pads do not come with the caliper pin kits.)

Some are of the opinion that these brakes, if not used with the corresponding electronic controls, might not perform all that much better than the current C6 ZO6 setup (as Scott has on his car).

There just isn't much data on how they would perform when retrofitted to something like an older musclecar, and operated without the controls... yet.

There are definately lot of things to consider, apart from just bolting them up...of course you need at least a 19" wheel...

Here are a few, from the Corvette Forums:

Be aware that if you track a car with Carbon/Carbon or Carbon/Ceramic brakes you MUST use/make further modifications due to the higher operating temps.

The ZR1 required different front spindle bearing assemblies, due to the extreme heating generated in the rotor. So, plan on changing hubs and spindles.

The brake fluid used MUST have a DRY Boiling point above 600*F. There are ONLY 3 choices currently available. WET boiling point is a concern but is secondary:

Make / DRY BP F* / WET BP F*

AP PRF 660 / 608*F / 390*F
GS 610 / 610*F / 421*F
Wilwood EXP / 626*F / 417*F

Thanx Rob
I have the same ones as Scott I'll stick with those... Thats all I needed to here...

I have to admit I'm not crazy about that color..but once I think about the LS9 and what I presume Butternut yellow my blood flows. One of the few that can pull it off.

Not Butternut. Butternut yellow puts me to sleep. This is Daytona yellow. Here are two of my old cars in Daytona yellow. Kind of a sickness I have.

Stuart Adams 02-01-2009 06:41 AM

That is a happy yellow. Perfect shade, IMO.

XcYZ 02-01-2009 07:28 AM

slenning 02-01-2009 09:01 AM

Looks Great Charlie!! I love the yellow. I was seriously thinking about painting my LS7 car yellow at one point. Keep the pictures coming guys.

PS I'm thinking about putting a LS9 in my 70 Camaro that I'm just getting started on. I may have to pick your brain later if thats ok.

yeah, it didn't look like Daytona yellow to me either in those pics. Some camera's struggle with yellow, especially indoors. Glad it's not butternut................ ;)

Vegas69 02-01-2009 09:13 AM

Exactly Jody...I like Daytona my 68 was a similar color.

dropit69 02-01-2009 09:57 AM

awesome Charlie !! i also have a yellow sickness just sold my yellow 98 gt..and my black 69 vert was originally daytona yellow so when i get around to redoing it it'll be yellow..can't wait to see this one done !!
