where are the pictures from the trim shop?!?!?!? you are sort of killin me smalls.
-brotourer. |
Dudebro!! Didn't I tell you all the pictures on my crappy camera got erased when the card somehow got corrupted and needed to be reformatted. Then, when I took the other camera up, the battery died. Pathetic isn't it.
Oh and can you use Jon's console to make your measurements for the aluminum plate? Matt |
oh yes i remember you mentioning that at lunch on friday.
and yes im sure i can use jons to make the aluminum pieces, just call me monday and tell me exactly what you need done. hope everyone had a brotastic weekend. -brotourer |
Sweet a purple 69 Camaro with 50's diamond tuck interior :D
JK it looks great man. I can't wait to see the finished product. |

matt knows deep down i was right all along...all i need is for him to write "brad you were right about painting the car purple the whole time and you are the best" in a signed formal document so i can hang it on my wall of fame and i will never again refer to his car as the "purple people eater" or "the purple nurple"...but untill then, purple purple purple. xoxox brotourer |
Here's a very quick and rough sketch.
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...sc005b186f.jpg Brad I figured you'd get a better idea of what I was thinking of then if I described it to you. on second thought, the sketch isn't that good so here's some description. The center section of the both the dash and the center console are supposed to be backed by a brushed aluminum panel. think back to what the One Lap Camaro's console looked like, just extent the plate up into the dash. Matt |
Camaro
Awesome project!
|
dick and i stopped by the trim shop on the way to kugel today, so matty matterson, i no longer will require your picture taking services :P
bro-style every mile, brotourer |
That's going to be a great color combo!
Have you guys wheeled the body of the car outside to see what it looks like in the sunlight? |
I haven't actually seen the car rolled out in the sun yet. I think it pretty much went from the paint booth, into the shop for a couple hours to get taken apart and into a trailer. I just happened to miss the several occasions when it was outside. I really can't wait to see it in (mostly) one piece.
I'll be going by the upholstery shop today to see what the one piece headliner looks like. Finally, its all coming together! Matt |
So I dropped by the upholstery shop today we did some test fitting of the panels. Overall, the stuff fits about as well as any aftermarket part for a 40 year old car. That is to say, some modification is required for about everything since no two cars are exactly alike. It took about three hours to mock up the headliner, but that was mostly because we had no directions. We didn't know we had to take these pieces out:
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1004.jpg As of now the headliner side panels will need a little bit of trimming at the back base, but are pretty good. Right now there's a bit of a gap: http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1005.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1007.jpg another minor issue we've had has been fitting the rear door panels with the DSE cage, which hugs the car really tightly. http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1008.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1009.jpg Lastly, here's a sample of the look for the doors http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1001.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1002.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1003.jpg the fiberglass trim will get covered with this fabric: http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_0999.jpg Matt |
that diamond weave with the faux CF should look killer together!
on larrys motiv-8er they had to notch the rear panel for the cage it that car also. |

Marty, the guy at the trim shop was just going to use the fabric I gave him and wrap it over the fiberglass pieces.
AJ, do you have a link to pics of Larry's door panels, I'm afraid if I go dig into Motiv8r's build thread, I won't be productive for the entire day  We've got some ideas, but its always nice to see how others have tackled these little issues. Matt |
its in one of the videos from the build but they dont really show much, just a short bit of micheal cutting out the piece where it hits, they never showed pics of it finished and when i saw the car a tylers shop last year i didnt even think to look at that part.
i dont know that they fiberglassed up the notched spot before they covered them though. |

Tom does some incredible work and it's hard to tell the difference between the real stuff and the stuff that he does. here are a link and a couple pics http://hydroillusions.com/ http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/...7_0759_IMG.jpg http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/...7_0760_IMG.jpg http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/...7_0765_IMG.jpg http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/...7_0767_IMG.jpg |
Whoa, I'd never looked at Tom's work closely before, it's pretty amazing. I have a couple parts that would look good with that finish, but I'm too busy to get around to sending the stuff his way right now. Maybe if I'm really picky I'll have him repaint the fake CF sill plates which I got that don't match the real stuff very well.
In other news, my dad came up with another possible name for our project. He wants to call it the "Getaway Car," because it will be a car, with a bunch of money from the bank tossed into it, that everyone will be trying to catch. I quite like that one, I think it might even be be worthy of project title. Matt |
Finally, some fabric went on over the last couple of days:
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1044.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1043.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1037.jpg We test fit the dash as well today, and got things fitting pretty well, but found that the mounting hardware on the top needed to be reinforced, as it fell off, so we (and by that I mean the editorial we, since I didn't do any fiberglass work), glassed over the mounting brackets: http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1053.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1052.jpg Also fit the doors to the trim, so it would look better http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1058.jpg |
Very nice. Headliner looks sweet.
|
Here's a pic of the roll bar notch in Scott's Marquez panel...I will have to do the same as well!
|
Got a question for you, what are you doing with the vin tag?

Looks good Matt!
|
Saw this In Person today and was immediately reminded of your build. Think it's gonna look good!!
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...9dayone012.jpg |
Something different for a 69, but it looks good. I dont think that pattern will ever be out of date
|
im still not feelin the carbon fiber stuff matty mattstien, but thats just my personal opinion(which for those of you who dont know me, i have plenty of them) i know your car will be the kronicals of gnarnia when its done, so its all good.
xoxox, brotourer ps. where were you at lunch today broseph? pss. will you wear a bro-touring.com shirt at sema if i make you one? |

I wasn't at lunch because I was running around all day picking stuff up at Classic Industries, and trying to get the stainless trim for the '59 Biscayne. Oh and if you make bro-touring shirts, I want one for each day of sema |
radical, ill have my brother print some up, what size do you need?
and anyone else, if ure down for a shirt PM what size and ill get you dialed in like a boss. |

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ppedCollar.jpg Also, you might want to let the pro-touring.com guys know about bro-touring. You might get more interest. Maybe lateral-g guys would prefer a (lateral)-G unit line of apparel. So, I saw some of Jon's work on the front sheetmetal. I don't understand how anyone that can do this good a job on something can still be so grumpy... That paint is slick as glass! http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1078.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1079.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1080.jpg Matt |
That looks WAY nice!! Many years of experiance right there!!
Ps. I got my shirt on order!! |
jon is a full on hater, no other way to slice it...he will never be happy doing anything, but leapin' lizards can that old man sand a polish a car :hail:
as for the shirts i want to keep the amount of them small, almost like a limited edition thing...im also thinking of doing a photo contest during sema...best picture of someone in a "bro-touring" shirt having fun at the show will win a hand made prize from me  hope you all had a super (bad word) weekend, bro-tourer |
That hood is looking KILLER!!

By the way, the dash got wrapped today http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1084.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1085.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1086.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...A/DSC_1088.jpg Also, I talked with Dick today, and he said Steve Rupp was on the hunt to find a place for the car at sema, (thanks Steve!). So I figured I'd also throw it out here, if anyone would like our car, or knows someone that would, please, let us know, you'd make our day/month/year, you get the idea... Matt |
Matt the dash looks great! I really need to learn how to cover parts like that!
I thought you already had a spot at SEMA? |
