Nice steering wheel! Is that a new racing wheel?
--Eric |
Is it me or do I see the infamous Ruptured Duck in the back ground?
|
That would be it.
|
Sorry if you've already explained this: What are your plans for the interior as far as the floors go? Insulation? Carpeting? Paint?
--Eric |
As Jesse James said "if it does not make it stop fast or Go fast it will not go on the bike". We will put some insulaition in the car, but we are also trying get the car below 3000 lbs. We have made some compromises to have a car that is still comfortable on the highway. But at the end of the day it is meant to drive the crap out of. We hope to put 10,000 plus miles on the car next year. Car shows, autocrosses, Silver State Classic, Hot Rod Power Tour, maybe Bonneville just to say we ran the car. Maybe the Road and track one lap event.
We also plan to show things that would not usually get shown in a build, I want to expose the wiring, the AC duct work, different things like that to show that hidden details. The ECU will mount on the outside of the dash. I think I have figured out how to use a Budnik Steering wheel on a quick release hub. I have not found anybody who makes a 9 bolt lecarra steering wheel Quick release hub. But I thnk we can make our own pretty easy. So I'm trying to get some of the best of both worlds. Some trick cool parts on a car that work at the track with as many bolt on parts as possible. |

Time for another update. Things are going pretty smooth. We have 90% of the rollcage welded in place. Most all the parts are under the hood. We have the ATS hydraulics for the clutch on th firewall and Got the Vintage Air LS7 Engine Bracket system Anodized in black installed. We have the Willwood black master cylinder mounted on the firewall. We are going to run manual brakes no booster or hydroboost. We have the Air intake plumbing set up with a K&N air filter. We have alot of the Plumbing done in front of the core support. We got the firewall support bars located and welded to eveything but the male side that welds to the chassis. We got the Drive by Wire Throtle pedal mounted up under the dash. We are going to try and get the Clayton Machine Works gas pedal pad on the elctronic gas pedal. The Drive by wire throttle body has not shown up from Gm yet.
The Vintage air bracket system went on without a single hitch. It is very solidly constructed and seems like a pretty nice piece. We will be installing the Gen 4 unit later this afternoon. We are also working to lay out the window flanges in Solidworks to laser cut the steel flange and water jet cut the lexan windows. Enjoy. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009033.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009029.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ust2009231.jpg I will try and get a complete underhood picture later this afternoon. |
As usual, looking good Rodger.

I should keep my big yap shut -- but noticed the bracket holding the air cleaner is built of flat stock -- and there are all those nice ROUND bars going on in there -- like the fender to core supports -- and the firewall to frame bars...
Maybe you're going to close this area off? And nobody will see what's under there.... |
It's all business, just the way it should be. My only two observations are the pedals and cooling. I am running the manual wilwoods and you get more travel than vaccum assisted especially in a race enviroment. Your brake and gas pedal look to close based on my experience. With everything you have stacked in front of the radiator, I hope you don't have low speed cooling issues.

With 2 big 16 fans, we should not have trouble keeping it cool, plus I put the coolers a little further out in front to get the air from around the coolers to go through the radiator with less resistance and for cooler air through the radiator. The coolers are way overkill as far as size. If we can block everything all the air going through the grille should go through the radiator. We might scale it tommorrow. |
I didn't realize you could fit two 16's with that radiator support. On a stock core you can run two 13's if you're lucky. I'm looking at having a custom radiator built right now and the stock support is a challenge for the road course and street.
|
I can get you a deal on the PRC units if your interested. They are pretty nice and drop some weight off the nose of the car.
|
Good god, I can't believe how quickly this car is coming together. Between this and the other projects going on do you ever sleep?
BTW, just curious, where are you putting the coil packs? Matt |
28 works days, maybe 10-12 hour days.
The coil packs might go on the down bars from the firewall with ATS coil brackets. |

Its looking good, can't wait to see more progress. Matt |
James with the One Lap car has heard of amperage issues if you mount the coils to far from the plugs and make long plug wires. He was having shut off issues at 148 mph and was thinking it might be a voltage issue and that was one of the possiblities.
So function over form wins again. And Matt you "Purple Rain Camaro" is looking great. Rodger |
This place makes a coil relocation kit that isn't that far away from the valve cover.

Lookin' like a race car Rodger!
|
Rodger --
Is that a Syncrowave 250 or 350 in the background?? Makes my Dynasty DX look like a kids toy!! |
WoW!! look'n good
|
Im pretty sure thats a 350... the dynasty models are badass!!! They almost pay for themselves just in the power you save runnin them
And rodger, the car is looking amazing, esp for bein just bolt on parts |
I did not see a price on the Speedwire
site. How much for that little jewel....I like it.
|
Give Gil A call at Speedwire. Each system is completely custom. I did not get the typical nitrous timers and other options that they offer. He will give you a price for whatever system they will build for your needs.
It this really nice quality stuff. Tell him you saw the Camaro project on the internet. |
Rodger are you doing a stock dash or a custom??
|
Custom aluminum unit. We are incorporating the Fuse panel and ECU into the look of the dash. We wanted to show the organization of the wiring and AC duct work under the dash. Make it a rolling business card or sorts.
