It would take some work to get to look good for chrome plating... I have only had to do one custom bumper for chrome plating .. DA sanding, good set of files.. & of course a good chrome plater.. They suck here in CA..

Question.... How hard would it be getting the bumper this smooth and sculpted but able to be chromed?
I really like the look of the chrome bumper on the car... but would really like to give the front a cleaner look.

Cris -- You need to start to use Sherms - in Sacramento. Get them to copper - send it back and you block the copper - if it needs more they'll copper again and you repeat the blocking... all of this is spelled EXPEN$IVE...

Chrome is like paint - it's only as good as the work underneath it. :

Cris@JCG 08-11-2011 02:28 PM

Thanks for the info Greg! I know that getting a custom bumper to look perfect is alot of work & will be expensive!

Maybe we can convince the owner of the Bird to chrome plate this air box :D

All we need to finish this box is weld the inserts on the opening & maybe a ring to hold the mesh in place!

Cris,

Who does all of you CAD designs?

Are you using any laser scanners to pick up dimensions?

Cris@JCG 11-13-2011 09:01 AM

We do.. I have one specific guy that is all he does for JCG.. Another that designs & machines prototypes, & a few engineers that consult on our designs.. JCG is fortunate to have a great group guys on that portion of the the business..

All by hand @ this point Bryce.. Got some cool things coming soon that we will be using a sub-contracted rapid prototyping company..

The center piece had to change on the dash.. The owner wanted a big face navigation stereo & the other face we fabricated was not working due to it hitting the A/C system.. So we came up with this one.. The billet face plate will be machined next week.. Using USB port & 12 volt out of 2010 Silverado..

Cris,

You should start building your stretched front fenders (in the shop free time) and sell them. Even a stretched quarter panel would be cool.

Cris@JCG 01-03-2012 02:04 PM

Thank you! But this idea was a joint one from me & the owner..

WE have been plugging away on getting the center console fabricated.. WE have been constructing the frame out of aluminum.. It is taking a nice shape to it..

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_1958.jpg

This Firebird is getting a seat in the back.. so we are getting cup holders in the rear..

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_1959.jpg

KPC67 01-17-2012 05:28 PM

looking great as usual. The cup holders are a must for sure. The passengers will need a place to put their beverages while their hands are in the air, and they are screaming at the top of their lungs..... better make them deep :woot:
