did you pay in all $20 bills again!

cdushane 07-09-2010 11:25 AM

So I recently found out that the LS2 motor in the 67 Camaro I bought was built 3 years ago and has never been fired :_paranoid Besides the simple fact of priming the motor and checking for oil pressure is there anything else I should do before firing? Should I be concerned that this thing has not been fired yet?

fletcherscustoms 07-09-2010 11:33 AM

Prime the oil pump, rotate crank by hand a few times, and let her rip!!

Vegas69 07-09-2010 11:35 AM

I'd change the oil and squirt some oil in every cylinder. Then rotate it by hand with the plugs out. Then you can turn it over without spark to prime the pump. Pop the plugs in and fire it off.

cdushane 07-09-2010 12:07 PM

Ok, thanks guys! That's what I planned on doing but just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing anything.

cdushane 07-19-2010 12:32 PM

We finally got the new motor in late last week :unibrow: We are missing several miscelaneous parts so if Rich does not have them I'm gonna be placing some orders to get the stuff in so we can fire this thing up!

I'm thinking of running a coil relocation kit to show off these carbon valve covers and also replacing the factory coils with the MSD ones, what do you guys think? We are definitely changing out the master cylinder and booster too!!!

awr68 07-19-2010 04:56 PM

Looks right at home!!
How did you like that coil wire firewall bulkhead? I have one for my car and wondered if it was a good idea or not? Hopefully it is as the hole is drilled! :_paranoid

That was for the big block we took out and yes, it worked well. Guess were gonna have to remove it and plug the hole now for the LS :_paranoid

waynieZ 07-20-2010 11:27 AM

That looks rite at home in there. What a difference that LS is going to make. Very nice.

Payton King 07-20-2010 11:33 AM

Looks great!

should run like a spotted ape.

While you are waiting on parts, paint your intake black. LOL

Rybar 07-20-2010 01:22 PM

New motor looks awesome.

I'll definately agree to that. I did so with mine, looks so much better

cdushane 07-20-2010 03:00 PM

I was thinking about painting it black but was unsure :_paranoid

You guys think it would look better painted???

Vegas69 07-20-2010 03:34 PM

I liked this thread until you put that puny little LS in there. :unibrow: You pull that out of a Chevy Cavalier?

lollllllll.......:_paranoid
Do you know where you are going to relate the coils Chris?

cdushane 07-20-2010 04:00 PM

I can't believe it took you this long to say something about the "puny little LS" Lol

Just show up in Fort Worth and we can sort this out :unibrow:

Probably gonna mount them on the firewall somewhere similar to what Scott did on his.

Vegas69 07-20-2010 04:18 PM

I wish they had better autocrosses. Everyone I've seen has been a joke. The Optima Challenge invite would be the only rational reason to run over there. We've been talking about a trip to Texas. Definitely not out of the question.

cdushane 07-21-2010 03:35 AM

I've seen only autocross at the GG shows so I wouldn't know the diffirence as of now. Gonna try to go see a local SCCA event here the next time there around. As of now the only track time I have planned is RTTH6 but it might be a good warm up for Fort Worth :unibrow:

Payton King 07-21-2010 05:39 AM

Mine is painted

semi-gloss black.

cdushane 07-21-2010 05:44 AM

Payton, is that a FAST intake? If so, I'm definitely painting mine! Looks sweet

Are you going to RTTH6?

Payton King 07-21-2010 05:51 AM

Yes and yes

Fast 90mm and I am signed up and ready to go to RTTH. Got a little oil pump problem rigtht now...7 psi of pressure. No metal in the oil or filter so i am guessing it sucked out an o-ring or the bypass is stuck. While I am changing the pump I will put in an Improved Racing oil pan baffle.

I take it you will be at RTTH? Hope so, love to see your new car in person. I really liked your old one. Great event and the people are even better.

cdushane 07-21-2010 05:58 AM

Yes, I'm all signed up! Maybe you could ride the autox with me or even drive my car to give me some pointers, the way it's looking it might be my first time doing an autox event :_paranoid

Payton King 07-21-2010 06:20 AM

There are way more people

with better skills than mine to help you out. If you want to be one of the slow guys...I am your man. LOL What is that new country song "I'm pretty good at drinkin' beer."

I will tell and show you everything I know. Brian Finch or Kyle Tucker would be a great place to start and they are more than willing to let you ride and pass on some good info.

With that motor you are doing you are going to have your hands full.

Are you going to make the drive non-stop? You are more than welcome to spend the night at my house here in Charlotte if you are planning on breaking up the trip. Come to think of it, you will probably go through Atlanta up 75 to Knoxville...invite is still open if you come this way.

cdushane 07-21-2010 08:55 AM

I'll probably be starting out a little "slow" as it is  Yes, I'll definitely talk to Kyle and I've never met Brian but I'm sure I will.

Thanks for the invite but more than likely I'll leave outa here early and drive straight through.

cdushane 08-30-2010 12:03 PM

It's been a while since I've updated but here's the latest. After spending weeks trying to sort out what we did and didn't have for the motor/trans I bought we were finally able to start ordering the parts we needed. Everything we need was in by late last week and we should have this thing ready to fire by the end of this week/beginning of next :_paranoid

Once that's done we are going to get rid of the chrome on the side as discussed earlier so hopefully withing 2 weeks I'll have it back. Trying to get it ready for RTTH6 but not sure that's gonna happen. Keeping my fingers crossed though :unibrow:

tones2SS 08-30-2010 04:58 PM

Very cool Chris. Keep us posted buddy!

cdushane 11-05-2010 06:53 AM

It's been a while since I updated and we've had tons of issues with the motor/trans swap. I really think I have a black cloud over my head with trying to get this thing finished  Anyway, we fired it yesterday and man the motor sounds wicked :unibrow: but as I walked to the rear of the car I noticed we were pouring gas outa the fitting going into the tank. After some diagnosis and thinking it wasn't tightened we discovered we had the wrong fittings so we are going today to get the new ones and hopefully have it running and ready to be tuned next week.

Also want to say thanks again to Frank @ Prodigy and Wegner for the kick ass front drive system, this thing is top notch and bolted in perfrectly, no shims no problems nothing!

tones2SS 11-05-2010 07:38 AM

Good to hear Chris. Hope it all works out for you.

Payton King 11-05-2010 08:45 AM

It is about time

you get that thing up and running....an no pictures? You know we are a visual group here and like to live vicariously though other peoples projects.

cdushane 11-08-2010 06:49 AM

I will get some pictures up later in the week. We are wrapping up a few details today and tomorrow and are scheduled for a dyno on Wednesday. Once this is done I will post some pics and video of the dyno along with the numbers. Can't wait to see if this motor is all it's supposed to be :_paranoid

cdushane 11-10-2010 11:27 AM

The cars really dirty and the pics were taken in the sun but here's a few for now....

cdushane 11-24-2010 06:01 AM

Finally got my car back and all I can say about this motor is WOW :D This thing has alot of power and great torque! Going over everything now to get it ready for The Turkey Rod Run in daytona this weekend and in a few weeks were gonna get started on removing the chrome and emblems, in the mean time I'm just gonna enjoy driving this bad boy. :woot:

tones2SS 11-25-2010 04:34 PM

Very nice Chris. Good to hear. Enjoy that bad boy. Have fun at the Turkey Run.

cdushane 12-30-2010 05:47 AM

Got to enjoy the car for a bit and get some miles put on it....finally! We have now removed all the emblems, chrome around the wheel wells, rocker and gills and in doing so have realized there's a little bit of issues to deal with from some previous body work. That said, I am painting the entire car over and deciding if I should go ALL black and get rid of the white stripes or do the stripes in matte black :_paranoid What do you guys think??? Has anyone seen matte black stripes on a black car and if so how does it look??? As always, any input would be greatly appreciated and very helpful :lateral:

HRBS 12-30-2010 05:52 AM

Chris..... My vote is for Matte/Gloss Black. Here is a Mustang we did with that combo. The black wheels make it even better.
