Cris@JCG 03-25-2012 08:20 AM

Bryce- I like what you are doing with column on the Falcon.. It's pretty cool when you put alot of thought into something & make it into a reality!

Hope to see you in Delmar this weekend..

Bryce 03-26-2012 08:40 AM

Its like driving a power steering car with the engine off. HAHA. I should be at delmar with the car.

At least not too many other people can drive my car, its also a great forearm workout!

speedzone 03-27-2012 05:12 PM

Hey Bryce. I was looking at this thread and thought this was too much of a coincidence. Arent you the guy that came in to my shop in santee last week? Car looks cool! Let me know if you wanna bring it by for us to have a look. Brad. www.speedzonepaint.com

Bryce 03-27-2012 06:20 PM

Oh thats weird. Yeah, a guy came in to my shop last week inquiring about paint on his 65 Falcon. He's doing the exact same thing to his car as yours. He's supposed to bring it in for me to have a look. Thought it must be you because its all so similiar.

Bryce 05-30-2012 09:59 PM

I have not been on in a while. busy working and buying parts.

After a long delay I finally recieved my KRC power steering pump.

I blocked off the bypass by cutting off the hose barb and tapping it to 1/8 npt.

I am now working on the wiring. Im putting a new fuse block and relay in the glove box.

The altenator will be switching sides. My canton crank pulley is on order. Its a double v-groove pulley.

Bryce 05-30-2012 10:01 PM

My car is on the hotchkis del mar good guys video. See the 20 second mark.

Cole 05-30-2012 10:12 PM

Right on!! Super cool video.

FETorino 05-31-2012 09:36 PM

Cool stuff. Those are some nice upgrades. Nice catch on your 5 sec of fame on the video. Keep sorting that Falcon out so I can copy your set up on my wagon.:D

I wish Meziere made a high flow pump for my motor.:(

Nope, I am in the middle of adding power steering. My power steering pump and crank pulley finally showed up. I recently added a electric water pump. And just today determined the mounting locations for the new alternator (just ordered it) and PS pump. I will be doing a few more SCCA events at the Q this summer. I will let you know when I go.

FETorino 06-19-2012 07:31 PM

Very cool. Keep sorting out that suspension recipe so I can copy it for my wagon:D

Bryce 07-31-2012 08:41 PM

a few updates....

I am adding power steering. I have the KRC pump mounted, with custom aluminum brackets. I added an electric water pump and a smaller alternator. I finished all of this the night before a work car show. I made the car show and won first in show. I was voted by a bunch of engineers.

Then I broke the trans the next day. I pulled the motor and trans last weekend and will figure out whats broken.

Bryce 08-28-2012 12:24 PM

Ordering some new stuff today.

After lots of research, I determined I only broke the torque converter. I am still going to buy a 1000hp PA C4 with a lifetime warranty. I am also going to send them my valvebody so that they can modify it to a tranny brake this will give me a first gear lockup on decel. Since my old trans is good I will order a new input shaft and keep it as a spare or maybe sell it. The internals are all PA parts.

Hughes is going to build me a 9" torque converter that they spec as a road race converter. It will produce less heat and less parasitic drag and faster reving.

I will also be adding an auxillary fan to my trans cooler, maybe even a secondary cooler.

FETorino 10-22-2012 07:53 PM

Where is this bird hiding?:_paranoid

Bryce 10-23-2012 12:04 PM

waiting on trans parts. I sent the valvebody back to Performance Automatic. Also the six gear planetary got sent back too. I took the trans apart and found a few more issues. UGGH!!!!!!!!

I also broke the AOD in my daily driver mustang. NOt a good summer for me.

67XR7 10-23-2012 09:00 PM

what R&P did you put in the falcon?

It still has modified stock steering. It has a 16:1 box from a 67 mustang and a 2:1 inline quickener.

I am adding power steering now with a KRC pump.

64pontiac 10-25-2012 07:15 PM

Congrats on the magazine spot!! Buy a few extra copies to stuff in the drawer!!

Still love this project!

THanks tyler. not bad for a home build. Hopefully I will finish it someday. I have two copies that the wife is going to put in a frame so I can put it in the garage.

Hope to run into you at SEMA.

chetly 10-28-2012 09:50 AM

Random question, but I'm having this discussion with Mike Maier and were trying to figure outa couple things

1) Does the 65 Falcon have the same shock tower height at the 65-66 Mustang?

2) The lower control arms are the same, but how about the uppers?

3) Is the wheel base 109.5 inches or is it shorter?

THanks

Mike is good people!

1) same shock towers, but different lateral seperation. THe shock towers are closer to the fire wall and the hood sits higher relative to the shock towers as well. The upper shock mounts are different too.

2) all suspension is the same except for the centerlink.

3) yep, 109.5.

BTW, I have a 65 mustang and 65 ranchero in the stable if you have other questions. THe cars a really different, even though they are based on teh same 1960 falcon chassis.

chetly 10-28-2012 11:55 AM

Mike is good people, more people shoud be running his equipment. He's making strides in the coolness factor when it comes to parts. Im lucky enough to be a close friend as well as living within 1/2 mile of him...

When you say different shock mounts, how so? bolt spacing/configuration?

Hes trying to talk me into a Mustang where I want a Falcon. Were trying to figure out how much of his stuff will fit on the front end.

Bryce 10-28-2012 12:26 PM

Are you or mike going to be at SEMA?

If so call me, I would like to chat with you guys. 858 472 3873.

Basically all your mustang suspension will bolt on to a falcon. Steering is a different story. However, the geometry will need to be adjusted do the frame rails being closer together on a falcon.

chetly 10-28-2012 12:57 PM

No, neither of us are going to SEMA.

You can always call Mike at the shop though.

510-581-7600

Bryce 10-29-2012 08:51 PM

I will give you guys a call next week after SEMA. There are a lot of suttle differences.

Are either of you coming down to del mar goodguys.

chetly 10-29-2012 09:29 PM

I dont know if Mike is going to del mar or not, im not. I know he'll be at pleasanton so will i.

I know that if i do get a falcon were going to do a torque arm with a panhard bar in the rear and all of his coil over stuff in the front sitting as low as possible. 17x8 in the front 17x10 in the rear. SBF 331 c.i. and either a top loader or a 5 speed g force...

Sounds like we might have 2 bitchin Falcons around here. :unibrow:

GrabberGT 11-08-2012 07:48 AM

Hey Bryce and other Ford/Falcon guys. Can you tell me whether a Granada Spindle and disc brake set up will just bolt in to the Falcon. Im doing a disc swap on a 64 and would like to use my old Granada/Maverick front brake setup. Will I have to swap out tie rod ends or anything else?

Thanks

craig510 11-08-2012 01:26 PM

I'll have my '63 out in Pleasanton this weekend getting another driving lesson from Mike :willy:

Bryce 11-19-2012 02:20 PM

My trans parts shipped last week. I might get to drive the car before 2013

I dont have a granada spindle but it is same ball joints as my 65. The tie rod is different and results in bad bump steer.
