Got the drivers door latch done yesterday night.
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...22260380_n.jpg http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...11626700_n.jpg After a lot of measuring and test fitting floor mount pedals it just wasn't worth the time and effort to get the pedals to fit right AND be comfortable in the seat. I said screw it and decided to modify the stock 4th gen camaro pedals. as it turns out it was easier to do than i thought it would be. Still have to mount the clutch master cylinder and gas pedal. brake and clutch pedal mocked up http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...32043885_n.jpg Power brake booster mounted http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...54508884_n.jpg Engine set so far back the brakes are almost next to the alternator http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...80597795_n.jpg Pedals modified to accommodate the seat moved back. http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...89740649_n.jpg Hoping to have the gas pedal mounted tomorrow. |
got the pedal mounts done.
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...59932694_n.jpg and then built a box to mount the stock GM clutch master cylinder inside the car since i moved everything back. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...37762992_n.jpg master box mounted http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...04309310_n.jpg pedals done. modified a '57 chevy gas pedal. not sure why the clutch pedal looks funny in this picture. http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...13721548_n.jpg corvette engine stands and mounts showed up so this will be the next project. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...11921995_n.jpg |
I like want you are doing.Very nice fabrication.
|
Thanks!
got the driver striker and vent filled. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...22428593_n.jpg then got the new engine cross member built. I'm very happy with the way this one came out. notice the notch for the oil drain plug. also the bolts are recessed on the bottom so they don't hit. http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...03369016_n.jpg driver side http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...67900011_n.jpg passenger side http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...87816928_n.jpg got the roof stripped http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...65192753_n.jpg and the body work has been started http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...56703044_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...87841207_n.jpg cut out the factory transmission cross member notches http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...49279997_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...70905403_n.jpg used the slip roll and bead roller at my buddies shop and bent up the new fill panels. the kick out on the passenger side is for the reverse switch on the transmission. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...96150782_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...86685855_n.jpg |
Just read your intire build. Awesome job!!
|
It looks great, nice work! I like what you did for the front crossmember.
|
thanks guys. waynie, I'm a lot happier with this cross member than I was with the other one. the round tube just didn't look right with all the square tube in the speedtech sub frame.
got the interior epoxy sealed. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...54709779_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...47682106_n.jpg then I got a hold of a rotis to flip the car over. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...36005541_n.jpg repaired some more rust on the passenger tulip. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...18933649_n.jpg then decided to move the accusump to another location and fabbed up a new filler with a X and a recess for the A/C bulkhead. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...09256327_n.jpg using a corvette fuel filter/regulator and put it where the factory spring pockets used to be. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...86663469_n.jpg then got the bottom fully ready for epoxy. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...28663419_n.jpg and half the inner roof ready too. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...66471413_n.jpg and the start of real color on parts of the car. I used the stock valve covers and cleaned them up. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...41911030_n.jpg The bottom will be sealed tomorrow night and then depending on weather there might be some body work started on the bottom or it might have to wait until wednesday night. |
Looks real nice AJ, won't be long now!
|
beautiful work. not to mention you're hauling ass.
|
How long did it take to upgrade to the newer door latches?
|
thanks guys, its coming along pretty fast right now.
next, it only took an hour or two for both of them. its got two coats of epoxy on it now. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...84747787_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...04077144_n.jpg |
I would assume beyond the obvious visual improvement the doors are probably much nicer (less resistance and quieter) to close. Is that accurate?
|
They are pretty easy to close yes. I don't have any weather striping yet and the doors are empty so they sound tinnie. I think that will go away once it's all finial assembled.
|
We started the body work on the firewall, it need a skim coat and sanded then it's ready for primer then work will start on the bottom side of the floor.
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...46668156_n.jpg Bent up the steam tubes. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...10066788_n.jpg Got a lot of the parts back from paint, reassembled the throttle body. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...95163294_n.jpg Modified the slot in the bottom of the factory frame rail to put my corvette frame pucks in so I don't chip the paint on a lift. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...23973002_n.jpg Tig welded a 1/4" round rod frame then welded it into the trans tunnel to stiffen the hole. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...34305965_n.jpg Fabed up a new passenger side fender mount out of 3 pieces of 16g steel. Not bad for a body hammer and a body dolly. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...20311188_n.jpg |
Very Nice work!
|
Great idea on the frame pucks. I thought about that one too...
|
while it doesn't appear that there is a lot done (at least to me anyways) i have been doing a lot on the car that i am just not going to show until the car is done as some of it might make it into a production run.
machined some bulkheads for the passenger side brake line and the driver side brake, fuel and return lines. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...96461108_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...36334905_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...08833415_n.jpg then finished the fuel lines back to the fuel cooler and trunk bulk heads and the brake lines. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...86365141_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...83862425_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...41368713_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...46956114_n.jpg the rear sections of fuel lines are covered in heat tape then cloth heat shrink. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto..._7953591_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...97515672_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...66508192_n.jpg then i started mounting the diff. cooler. there will also be a trans cooler on the other side in the same place. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...31387557_n.jpg |
Looking good AJ
|
Awesome job it looks great.
|
Very Nice Work.

Thanks guys!
I didn't like how the plumbing would run on the first cooler duct I made so I started over. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...20871844_n.jpg both of the ready for sand blasting then paint. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...69299837_n.jpg passenger side transmission cooler http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...35274765_n.jpg then we got both of the wheel well lips cut and welded. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...43634982_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...14032628_n.jpg to match the rear frame rail pucks I have I laid out the same pattern in the sub frame so much to the pleasure of my painter I won't chip the paint when I put the car on a lift or jack it up. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...85236820_n.jpg rough cut the slits http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...51134189_n.jpg then finished by grinding the rest and finishing the edges http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...11873828_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...08530229_n.jpg then to finish this update, the rear suspension links and front steering arms back from paint. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...32447196_n.jpg |
Love to suspension parts on the dinner table  my wife would kill me if I did that again!!! :_paranoid Looks great by the way!

Just a quick update today. Before body work got too far on the firewall I decided to remove the factory stamped X in the driver tulip and mount the wiper motor there. Since I don't currently own any dimple dies I had to settle for a wood hole and my handy router.
http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...91595970_n.jpg I dimpled the 3 spots where the wiper motor bolts would hit the firewall with a socket and two hammers. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...09837443_n.jpg Wiper motor mounted http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...83636007_n.jpg Then I decided to update the 43 year old wiper transmission with the left over parts from the donor car. With the piece I cut out to shorten one arm I needed to use to make the other one longer. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...45309406_n.jpg I also used the larger socket balls for a low friction squeak free wiper transmission. A quick trip to the sand blaster and they'll be ready for paint. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...67909883_n.jpg The bottom of the car is almost ready for paint. One more coat of slick sand and a quick sand and its ready for sealer, primer, seam sealer and paint. |
Its looking good. Nice idea for the dimple die.
|
Smart update on the wiper arms AJ
|
Wow. A lot of extensive and creative fabrication in this build. Top notch! Thanks for taking the time to stop and take pictures and share all of your ideas with the community. What a resource this thread is. Awesome work AJ.

Car is 90% seam sealed. I was waiting on doing the rear section until after two last things were finished up in the rear. This is one of the two things needed done. Sadly there is a few projects going on with the car that it has been strongly recommended to me that I not post online at this point:unibrow: . Now that they are both done the bare metal will be epoxied and seam sealed then its ready for paint.
Rear tow hook http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...44522975_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...00839055_n.jpg |
Nice work, just went through the 20 pages, great ideas and attention to detail,

Looking good!

Got lots of stuff done over the past few weeks with the little bit of time I've had to work on the car. First we got the watts link bracket and fuel cell cage masked off and painted.
http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...54415051_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...27354564_n.jpg Then after about a week we masked off the freshly painted parts to seal the bottom of the car. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...29575713_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...42063239_n.jpg My buddy Jon then got the base coat shot. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...51200770_n.jpg Then he got it cleared coated http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...91233415_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...04387097_n.jpg And today I started finial assembly of the small parts that go on the bottom. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...71362684_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...64665779_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...07588999_n.jpg |
This lookin real good.I like the color.
|
Killer thread! Thanks for all the progress pictures and like Matt said, it's a great resource
http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...91595970_n.jpg Quick question, how did you get the metal to submit to that shape? |
Thanks guys.
I just worked it with a ball peen hammer then a body hammer to get all the dents out. |
Looking great AJ  It's always a great day when you get paint on parts!
|
Looking sweet!

Its been a bit since my last update. Didn't get much work on the car done for sometime then I started picking it up again here and there. Got quite a bit done paint wise too.
Engine cleaned and prepped for paint. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...46417574_n.jpg Then got it shot in epoxy. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...94939296_n.jpg Mixed up some paint I had around the house and ended up with this color. Didn't care for it at first but the more I look at the the more I like it. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...36591903_n.jpg Also got the transmission stripped and painted. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...01296607_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...06149705_n.jpg And got them both assembled http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...94820406_n.jpg Most importantly I got my sub frame back! http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...10793111_n.jpg And installed http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...57163526_n.jpg Taking advantage of the exhaust notches in the trunk I built a washer jug to clean up the engine bay and move weight to the rear. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...88400704_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...30440756_n.jpg Today I started removing the last of the cancer. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...97103897_n.jpg I ended for the night with about half the lip repaired. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...84438033_n.jpg |
